Senua's Saga: Hellblade II

Wasn't Arkham Knight UE3?
It's a drop-dead fine-lookin' game, they musta decked that kit out, huh

(Also, I tested those Nvidia effects on & off--literally not a single dropped frame. Zero performance loss. Unreal. How. It's such an upgrade.)

Yes, UE3-4-5. It doesn't matter. The technique may be optimized but the general approach is still the same and the code doesn't have to change. Once you solve a problem with a solution, you can either optimize it, or add more functionality. It was Nvidia's code to begin with, but I would definitely use it if I were making a game with smoke or clouds like that.

Would people "REALLY" care about that though?

But about this trailer, I'm so excited that we finally get to see what next-gen will offer. But how do you guys know this is a launch game?

No one would consciously care, but there are a lot of psychological factors that go into marketing.

A reminder that I need to play the first one, bought it for vr but never really got into it.

Can't wait to see more next Gen titles if this video is any indication what games are going to look like /drool

If I hadn't seen the almost photorealistic in-engine cutscenes from Death Stranding (especially Die-Hardman at the end), I'd not believe that this is in-engine... but now I kinda totally believe that the cutscenes in this game will look like this. The amount of detail and especially character models/facial animations are off the charts.

I can hardly tell if I'm looking at a real person touched up with CGI or a completely rendered character when she starts "singing".

Just got of the phone with one of my buds at Epic. Their team is stoked about Senua's reveal (using UE4). I told them "stop trying to make it seem like XSX was used for that reveal. It was the PC." he says "we never said what hardware it was..." :messenger_tears_of_joy: So PC hardware gents. But it doesn't matter. It was in-game cinematics anyway.

That facial animation is on a whole other level. Please be real and ingame.
If MS'new first parties offer great content and the XSEX offers 4K visuals at a cheaper price than upgrading my PC. I might be there day 1.
God damn this looks good.
Apparently captured in engine, realtime.

lel, people are going mad like it's a new state-of-art while it's actually not as good as the UE4 star wars demo that has been released two years ago.

If the first hellblade is of any indication...we are in for a real treat with this game. I wanna know how they change up the formula. the complexity of hellblade was a hybrid AA game with AAA visuals. Now I wanna see AAA through and through.

What demo is that?
This one, I assume.

Pretty sure it's newer than 2 years. Though it's just a video and not a game so it clearly has less barriers than this game does to look good. This trailer looks great though "in-engine" has always been a weasel term. Plenty of "in-engine" trailers have looked way better than the final product.

...Though Hellblade is very much a third person, cinematic game, so I'm a little confused why Xbox gamers -who apparently hate those- are suddenly hyped... 🤔

Different scenarios buddy. The SW demo used RT reflections. Senua's demo uses incredible texture detail and amazing 3D volume smoke, extremely well done performance capture of faces (I can't imagine what the rig layout looks like) and best fire in the industry. None of that was in the SW demo while no reflections were in Senua's demo. I'd say in my professional opinion that Senua's demo is using way more compute power, very compute intensive techniques and excellent quality assets.

Can't speak for other xbox gamers, but I don't hate those kind of games. It all depends on how I respond to the story, gameplay, mood and so on. I really liked God of War, but Uncharted 4 was a repetitive and badly paced mess. The first Hellblade was all about the experience - I barely remember any particular fights or puzzles, but I clearly remember what it made me feel emotionally. In that regard, the first game struck a nerve better than most of the games of this type that I played on either Ps4 or Xbox.

This along with Bloodborne are types games that did not "need" a sequel, but I sure won't complain with getting them.

Exactly...wait, bloodborne is getting a sequel?

I can't handle this.

Nothing confirmed, I was using it as an example of how well and self contained the story/lore were. But also, are so deep that you can do sequels with or without picking up where the last one ended.

I would not be surprised if another Bloodborne is coming within it's rich universe. There is so much they can spin-off into that world if they don't want to go the direct sequel route.

I haven't played through bloodborne in years it seems. I convinced a friend to get a PS4 for Black Friday. He got the bundle with GoW HZD and LoUR. He balls deep in Horizon right now and is the type that must do everything in a game before moving on. I'll convince him to run through a fresh playthrough with me again. I remember bits and pieces of the story. I only did 2 of the endings, if there was a 3rd i am unaware. Then the DLC...so I'm really ready to give this another go cuz I barely remember anything. Something about this Lovecraft like world where demons have basically taken over...people suffer from some kind of plague and shit gets weird like...extraterrestrial type weird. there's a dude in a wheelchair who ends up being like the old ninja master from Sekiro. Probably one of the hardest bosses I ever beat. There was a Doll. some dude with a cage for a helmet talkin about Kos or Kosm...then the wolf bandage broad in the church. She was terrifying. I'd say Bloodborne has the best boss battles I can remember of all the Souls games.

They need to completely revamp the combat system, the combat in the first game was ass.
Open up the environment and exploration a bit, include some magic in combat, add some optional Ryse-esque executions (especially against human and non-spiritual enemies), expand on story, tighten up combat, more varied enemies and double the length of the game and they'll have a hit.

The SW “Reflections” demo ran on a Quadro RTX 8000 card, though.

So, either you're saying i) XSEX has a more powerful GPU than a $5000 Quadro RTX 8000, or ii) what we saw wasn't in real-time.

If you have not read this, I highly recommend it. 107-page in depth write up of the lore by Redgrave.

Would be cool if they used this "saga" to introduce new entries in their mainline series... starting out with Senua in Hellblade 2, then a time jump/reincarnation for Nariko in Heavenly Sword, then a time jump/reincarnation to Trip in Enslaved. Haha

Agreed. If this is what Next Gen can offer visually I am officially excited. This almost broke the uncanny valley for me I mean it looks almost believably real and just as good as the best CG in movies. It is exciting times to be running games looking like this in real time.

Of course it probably won't actually look that good but here's hoping the SSD is what they really needed to stream such high levels of data and the HD was what has really been holding everything back until now like I hope.

But all of those are demos. And they are mostly from the last 8 months. So how can those impress you, but this didn't?

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I don't like this.. I know it's only a teaser, but they seem to be taking the vulnerability out of the character. If the teaser is anything to go by..

And all of those were accomplished on hw vastly more powerful than the next-gen consoles.

How long before someone just shrugs this off as “another walking simulator” like so many did with the first game?

Sacrifice was easily one of my top 5 games of 2017. A lot of people missed out on a deep gaming experience IMO.

Edit

If it's at all like the 1st game, you can get nearly the same enjoyment watching someone else play it on Youtube.

Quadro and Geforce are two different brands that cater to two different workflows. The Geforce boards are for gaming and the Quadro for professional development.

2080Ti - 4352 Cuda cores, RTX Ops - 78T, VRAM - 11G

Quadro RTX 8000 - 4608 Cuda cores, RTX Ops - 84T, VRAM - 48G

That demo could have easily been done on a 2080Ti.

Edit: I jest. I dug the hell out of the first one. The 3D sound was super creepy.

It surprised me too. The first game was the personal inner journey of Senua, to learn to cope with death, have closure and move on, and now suddenly a sequel? How can there even be a sequel to that? At best another completely separate story featuring her, but that shouldn't share the same title.

Well, even a 2080 Ti is a flagship part right now, not midrange like what the next-gen consoles are going to have.
