Trump to announce US withdrawal from Paris Accord, will take four years to complete

Every single person better go out and vote against this lunatic party during the coming elections.

And Democrats better not fuck around and put up great, awesome candidates. This shit can't be allowed to continue.

If states could make deals with foreign entities it'd be cool to have stuff Made in California not subject to something like an eco-tax.

In the end the rest of the world will move forward without the US. They will invest in cleaner energy and modernize their industries while adding new jobs and opportunities. The US will be the pouty kid who sits on the sidelines refusing to play. The people who suffer will be Americans. The rest of world will succeed despite trump.

you are forgetting clean coal

How much is this really going to matter?

The trend of moving towards renewable energy isn't going to all of a sudden reverse its course. Consumers want to buy from environmentally responsible companies, and the companies themselves want to use renewable sources as they get cheaper and cheaper.

Like, Trump's being a dick. What else is new? And this makes the US look really stupid. But will it really change anything?

Then why have the agreement in the first place?

I wonder if this will make America wake up to the FACT that Earth climate is caused by greenhouse effects.

America: Climate change ain't real

Trump 2017: OK it ain't real were pulling out of the Paris deal

America: Hmmm... Maybe climate change is real?

I'm hoping that all the deniers were simply trolling...

so what's the trump supporter's spin for why this is a good idea?

Because Obama was black and a Democrat and their Orange Saviour said leaving is good. Hopefully nature recorrects this and wipes his ignorant supporters out with worse and worse tornadoes and hurricanes, sort of like what is being predicted.

So there's no point in engaging in any kind of organised initiative to stop climate change, given its inevitability on account of consumer and corporate demand?

Trump pulling the United States of America out of the accord is a blow to a unified global attempt to drastically decrease the effects of global warming on our planet. This is far, far more than Trump just "being a dick" and it should mean much to more to you outside of the decision making the US look a bit foolish.

I don't get this mistrus of experts and scientists when it comes to climate change, I mean most of us take our doctors' advice when it comes to health because they are the experts in health, why not take the advice of experts in this field? Why do these people fucking hate science with all the good stuff that it has given us?

Come on Comey. Don't let us down. Please have something that will get him out of office. Sure maybe not impeachment, but something so bad he just flat out resigns.

Just reversing everything Obama did. He doesn't even know what this even is or what it even means. Fuck that "better deal" noise.

I hope the rest of the world doesn't forget this once we get that dumbass out of the white house.

"Better deal", smh. This isn't a fucking business contract, it's an effort to SAVE THE PLANET. And the US wants no part of it, because it's "bad for Americans". What, a hospitable planet is bad for you? Fucking idiots.

They couldn't even come up with a good reason for withdrawing, other than it involved the previous administration. How can we even compete on a global scale in the energy sector if we're hitting the breaks on one of the most promising growth sectors?

How does not being a participant in the Paris accords prevent the US from being in solar, wind, fusion, etc?

I also wonder how many people here know what the Paris accords are. If you actually read them, you would realize they don't really say or do much. Its essentially an agreement by everyone that they will try to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with no enforcements or penalties or anything.

Every House seat is up for grabs in 2018. Not sure about the Senate. But we can start by taking back the House.

Yeah I know, but the gerrymandering is going to help Republicans immensely, no?

As far as the senate goes, it's 1/3 of it is up for reelection every two years. I haven't looked which seats specifically though.

If you're upset about it, vote and volunteer for the elections in 2018 so we can hold him accountable and kick him out. And then get a Dem in who will get the country back on track.

His "Bad for Americans!" means "If a black guy voted for it, I'm against it!"

Right. So all the panic here seems pretty overblown.

This is Trump withdrawing from an agreement that we as a country will probably follow anyway without being told to, just to look like he's a friend to the coal workers.

No it's not.

Some people will recognize me as being someone who likes to be more "calm" in climate threads, but the US pulling out of this is a huge deal that can absolutely have major ramifications in the next round of negotiations.

The EU and China have already basically made a partnership with the US stepping out, India has said they will stay in the deal regardless of the US leaving. However, the US, the second largest emissions emitter, not being in the deal and setting targets or trying to reach them, will have long term ramifications for global emissions targets, let alone other countries looking at the US and saying "whats the point of us busting our ass to reach targets that cost us shit loads of money when the US isn't even doing anything?"

Acosta putting work in.

Campaign promise? I must of missed the climate part.

How in the fuck is this accord bad for the US? Why can't anyone give clear reasons without coming up with inane bullshit that has nothing to do with this?

The fact that only 2 countries didn't sign this says it all, and one of those is currently in the middle of a civil war so at least they have a good excuse.

Trump and the US are a fucking joke of epic proportions. The electoral college should be disbanded for letting that disgrace sit in the White House. Additionally, Republicans and people who didn't vote because both sides were the "same" are fucking scum as well.

In general this puts the US in a bad position. No one wants to do a deal on ANYTHING else with someone who can't honor the commitments we already made as a nation. That and everyone knows that in 4 years if he gets tossed the fuck out everything HE'S done is going to be torpedoed faster than you can blink.

I knew Trump would be bad, but it's pretty amazing to think he could pretty much destroy the nation in less than half a year.

Yeah I know, but the gerrymandering is going to help Republicans immensely, no?

Actually, gerrymandering can work against a party in a wave election. It creates a lot of Republican seats, many of which just barely lean Republican - say, R+5 if you want a number. If Democrats see a massive swing, those marginal seats all flip, giving Democrats more seats than they would've won without gerrymandering.

Moral of the story: keep the enthusiasm alive, capitalize on Trump's incompetence to push turnout, and create a blue tsunami.

Could a few nations just give Trump something stupid so he could call it a win? Let him slightly rename it in the US to make baby feel big?

When the history books of the future look back on these years, and they laugh, it will be deserved. I don't know why I continue to be shocked by this administration.
