Far Cry 5 keyart revealed

I know this is Montana USA. Totally get that.

But this is probally the whitest game ever made next to Duck Dynasty.

Any minority in this game is not gonna be in a good place... i can just tell.

I think ISIS controlled territory would make for a perfect Far Cry setting actually. But the series always go pulpy and outrageous, so it would be distasteful to do this while the conflicts still lasts

Also I think open desert just wouldn't make as good of a setting geography-wise. Montana is a really good place for landscapes. Were it not located in the borders of the US, I don't think people would have any issue recognizing it as a great, exotic landscape for these games.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, is the specific cross that is replacing the stars in the flag an already existing symbol?

Desert itself no, but ruins of a city, filled with both modern and ancient architecture would work very well. Especially since improved vertical mobilty is one of the biggest positive changes you could make to Far Cry formula.

Any ideas when this actually takes place? Could it be a post civil war America?

Bruh.

I mean, I guess anything's post-Civil War if it occurs any time after the Civil War.

It's the same symbol that's on the church and flagpole so presumably it's the iconography of the fictional cult that's being portrayed here

I don;'t care what everyone says. Loved the story of FC3 and Jason Brody was one of the most fun protagonist of last gen.

Far Cry 3 is a mixed bag, but I still really like it. I know it kind of pulled a "mighty whitey" plot, but the Jason's arc nicely mirrors the player's experience. As Jason grows more and more confident (and more and more bloodthirsty), you as a player are also probably growing more and more confident and aggressive in terms of your playstyle. It's pretty cool.

Brody was quite a douchebag and whined too much, imo. I think the FC4's protag, Ajay was a much better protag and probably one of the best developed in the franchise, tbh.

A religious seperatist miltia is a neat idea for an enemy, but Montana just doesn't seem exotic enough for Far Cry.

It's got some range.

In terms of backstory Ajay's got it, yeah, but over the course of the game, Jason definitely changed. If the key point of the latter half of that game wasn't dreariness, it would probably be talked about more.

Scientology uses a similar cross, but with the Latin cross, ie tall cross, not the Greek one used in the FC5 art. Can't seem to find any other meaning behind that particular combination in my quick search.

Colour me excited. If they are gonna tackle some religious cult or something like that, I hope they nail it 'cause its a really interesting topic that not so many mainstream games touch.
Oh and yes, I can't wait for the religious butt hurt and multiples articles calling this game "controversial".

A religious cult is interesting, but I just hope it doesn't inappropriately associate it's fantasy with a more complex and messy reality and just feed our culture's religious ignorance and illiteracy.

I have zero faith in Ubisoft executing on this idea in a way that pleases anyone.

I'd love for them to release a huge AAA game that effectively skewers American Christianity, gun culture, militias and the neo-nazi alt-right. But they won't.

That's pretty much how I felt about it, too. It's a mess story-wise, but I dig the idea of what they were trying to do. Plus, I can relate to Jason and his douche-bro friends a lot lol

Are people really going to take the side of a religious Jim Jones doomsday cult

Besides Bannon

Like Far Cry villains are James Bond or Die hard villains.
"How dare they show white people as controlling oppressors, im offended and i am catholic/christian and this does not represent me or my religion how dare you!!!!"

Fight gun culture with gun culture
Skewer crazy religious fanatics sounds better.

I like the art. I think there is a lot of potential in mid-American history and some of the most intriguing figures come from cults that sprung up during that time period. I don't see anything particularly offensive about the art but I've always been told I'm a pretty poor Christian so who knows?

Confused about the hipster comments though since that was the actual style for a good three years. Is "hipster" a code word for people who follow trends and value their appearance? I can see how GAF would get that idea. :p

Having people talk about skewering my beliefs on the internet so often gives me the butterflies in my tummy. What other religions and cultures can we talk about skewering while we're on the topic?

All the game has to do is say the Bad Guys are a Christian Cult. Then all of the oppressed snowflakes will comment on FaceBook how Christianity is the most oppressed religion in the world.
