Far Cry 5 keyart revealed

What if the main character is black?

That would be incredible, according to Google, in Montana, African- Americans only represent 0,3% of the state's population (the lowest in the US), add to that the Christian fundamentalists and you have a really interesting hostile enviroment for a black sheriff

But yeah, that´s too bold for and complex for Ubisoft´s writers

The leaks on Reddit said this is a religious/doomsday cult that took over a town in Montana and you play a sheriff that has to take them down. So think less Richard Spencer, more Alex Jones.

But at the end he'll reveal himself to be a performance artist.

I was thinking about that

When was the last time they offended anyone, apart from the women are too hard to animate?

They are Ubi soft for a reason

-Ghost Recon Wildlands with the Bolivian government asking the French government to do something about the representation of Bolivia.

-Far Cry 4 when people thought that the main antagonist was white.

If anything Ubisoft as the most controversies regarding their games. Only Rockstar is on par.

It's not that. It's the fact that people on this website think every person who is a white Christian who lives in rural America is somehow this evil racist who needs to be mocked and ridiculed. That is far left.

Look on pretty much every thread that tackles a subject like this. We're all just evil alt-righters.

Duuuudddeeee....

If Ubisoft wants to keep the mystical magic stuff going, they could have the sheriff be native american.

I'd be impressed if they went that far. Not just implementation, but being able to deliver on the social commentary.

They did for ACIII Liberation and Freedom Cry, but those were either a spin-off handheld or DLC. I'm not sure if they're going to do it for a huge mainline entry for Far Cry, despite 4.

I'd love to be wrong though.

Watch Dogs 2 main protagonist was black & while WD2 wasn't a largely racial story or social commentary, Marcus' racial identity was an essential part of his character and wasn't shyed away from by the developers. It wouldn't surprise me if FC5 featured a minority protagonist.

They're daring enough to tackle this plot and setting (you know it's going to piss people off), and put that kind of imagery on their first major reveal (you know that's also going to piss people off). I wouldn't rule it out

Plus Watch Dogs 2 had a black protagonist. And I believe the next Assassin's Creed does as well. Why not Far Cry?

Also Freedom Cry had a former slave black protagonist, and AC3 had a native protagonist as well.

I think you might be underestimating the kind of landscapes they could do

Oh, wow, those are some beautiful landscapes.
I really hope this game has a varied amount of places to explore. It will be a great sightseeing experience.

Also, this is the first game is the series since 2 that features a real place, right?

I would have prefered a western setting. Or a blood dragon sequel.
If it follows the same old tired far cry formula (outposts/towers/skinning animals to craft ammo bags) i'll pass.

I have a strong suspicion that the antagonists will not be portrayed as racist to avoid controversy.

Nah I think it will be mentioned / be an aspect. But not the main one. The game will revolve around cult / religious vibes and the idea of "man against the government" aka the Bundy Standoff.

Main protagonist will also likely be white. Still that's a pretty bold and strong concept regardless. Gonna be very interesting to watch how Ubisoft play this.

Oh fuck yes.

Yeah I think there's only 2-3 non white people in Montana total, so I'd bet the sheriff is white.

Can't wait for the Reveal. Especially if they have implemented any new Game mechanics or not.i can see the Planes so that is new.

Oh Good! We're going to be dealing with religious Nutjobs! Can't wait for the big gameplay reveal so that we can get a bit more backstory to this.

Oh shit. I haven't played the Watch Dogs games, so that's pretty cool on the second.

And someone else just brought up ACIII, and that touches it a little. Especially when Connor berates Samuel Adams on Surry, and that he can pass for Spanish in Boston as opposed to his black mentor.

if this website thinks every white Christian who lives in rural America is somehow this evil racist who needs to be mocked and ridiculed then the right thinks every brown person is a jihad who wants to cleanse non-believers

go piss off with that shit, I hear gamefaqs has been occupied by the alt-right

FarAlt-RightCry 5. Neat.

Enjoyed 2 & 3 but never got around to 4 or touched Primal. Dunno if I want to spend my time around a bunch of religion-spouting Richard Spencer skins, but I can certainly see the appeal of people wanting to shoot people like that right in the face.

Also I'm surprised at the amount of posters shocked that FC3 had a white savior story and hat they haven't herd of that controversy. It's so blatantly obvious, and the controversy grew to the point that the main writer had to defend himself by retroactively claiming the story was ironic and satirical despite there being no evidence of it. A simple google search would get you up to speed.

Either way it's a win as long as I get to kill some fucks in Nazi Youth haircuts.

So like...a serious Blazing Saddles.

People had meltdowns when the cover of Far Cry 4 was revealed and was declared racist and problematic for perpetuating gender stereotypes (people thought the villain was gay because LOOK AT HIS CLOTHES OMG!!!

Assassin's Creed: Unity was on hot water for their depiction of the French Revolution because their depictions of some key figures and their role in it.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands also had some backlash for their depiction of Bolivia

And If I recall correctly there was some buzz around some of the themes and plot of The Division.
