Trump meets with lawyers at the White House

So if the Trump campaign does go down, where does that leave us? Pence will most likely be caught up in all of this, and won't be able to sub in. Does that mean we end up with Paul Ryan? I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can live with Ryan as president till 2021...

Until yesterday I would have said Ryan. Now I'm thinking that it might be Hatch.

Wow, that's got to be an interesting circle of hell to have to occupy. Like diving into a pile of razor blades and trying not to get cut.

I like to image it's akin to balancing on a claymore mine while also trying to juggle vials of highly corrosive substance and finally trying to successfully spin Trumps various scandals and tweets to the public.

Or something in that style.

Lawyer up

Is this really news, though? Of course the WH would seek legal aide while under investigation.

It's news in that it's an independent lawyer for administration officials separate from the regular legal recourse of the president, which would be the justice department and the attorney general.

Obama should make a speech one day and just smile and yell..."LOCK HIM UP".

No fucks given. Cmon Barry-O, he loved to feed the birther BS, lets start some shit up, Republican style!!!

You know what's really ironic in all of this? Trump brought all of this on himself, literally. His behavior and how he handled the Russian issue created more attention towards Trump and his administration. I think he could have actually got away with it if he hired the right people and actually acted professionally. If he never hired Flynn and he distanced himself from all the people under investigation the situation would have never escalated this fast this early. I think that Trump is dirty and has ties to the Russian government, but he could have at least delayed it.

Some news analyst stated that Trump's letter for firing Comey actually waived executive privilege. Is this correct?
Here's some additional info for ya on the subject.

Legal experts said Trump's disclosures put into question whether his conversations with Comey are protected by presidential executive privilege, a legal doctrine that is not constitutionally guaranteed but that historically has protected a president's communications. Trump's public discussions of the Comey conversations may have opened the door for Congress to press Comey on what was said during his conversations with Trump, wrote Laurence H. Tribe, a professor of constitutional law at Harvard Law School in a Twitter post (below):

University of Texas School of Law Professor Stephen I. Vladeck, also a constitutional law expert, told ThinkProgress that a president's public comments can waive executive privilege for a particular topic.
"Certainly, the more President Trump opens his mouth and/or his Twitter account, the harder it will be for him and his associates to prevail in a fight over executive privilege — but that won't stop them from invoking it, and from requiring Congress or the courts to sort it out," wrote Vladeck, in an email.

The White House is not supposed to speak to the FBI about investigations, except through the Attorney General or Deputy Attorney General, in order to avoid political interference with investigations. Trump appears to have violated that prohibition," wrote constitutional law expert David Cole in an email to ThinkProgress. Cole is national legal director at the American Civil Liberties Union and is on leave from teaching at the Georgetown University Law Center.

If you're not on their side what other reasons does one deal with law enforcement in a way that causes them to seek legal help?

No matter how innocent or guilty you are, consulting with legal counsel is the very first thing you should do whenever you have reason to believe you are or will be the subject of a criminal investigation.

How crazy would it be if Trump just didn't come back from his trip overseas. And just like... Left us to figure out what to do.

Yep. No matter how sure you are of your story about anything you're being accused of doing, you always lawyer up and never say more than you have to. No matter even if you know 100% for a fact you did nothing wrong, things said can still be used against you in ways you are completely unaware of.

And you can still go to jail if innocent. Knew one person who went to prison for a year before getting out on an appeal.

There's only one way this hunt's gonna go down.

He doesn't even want to leave in the first place. Though I imagine a good part of that is it being an 8-day trip, and he wants to relax at his businesses.

LOL, Trump's lawyers must be crying over that horribly written Comey letter. Legally, it's so terribad for his situation in so so many ways. Trump is a fucking dumbass. President of the U.S and writing such stupidity as the official letter to fire your FBI director. He deserves to get burned over that and more.

So how long until a legal battle happens when Trump refuses to give over his tax returns (or an audit of his businesses).

I mean that anyone being investigated for a crime needs a lawyer regardless of whether or not they did anything illegal.

Where does this place evil Masterminds Bannon and Sessions? I mean if Donald goes down, he needs to take them with him.

Bannon is basically just a lingering fart at this point, nobody wants that shit, and he'll be gone as soon as Trump is. Sessions is harder to say. He's kept his head down, relatively speaking, about all this, but the fact that he had to recuse himself from the Russian investigation and then was implicated in firing Comey could be a problem for him

The best part is I KNOW people like Trump. I worked for a Russian NYC billionaire who was good buddies with Trump. They usually hire sycophant lawyers* that tell him exactly what he wants to hear. The real lawyers never last long. I highly doubt these lawyers even really know what is going to happen.

*I was a very junior lawyer when I was starting out, no one lasted very long since we realized quickly that the guy was an egotistical nightmare and his close lawyers gave him bad advice.

I guess it depends on what can get dug up and if Sessions has had more contacts than just that one meeting he tried to keep secret.

This would be the boldest, most incredible move.
Right? With how fucking insane he is I'm having fantasies about it happens ING, him just self exiling himself and saying... Fuck this. He's an old man who doesn't want to be doing it. If he did that he'd be fine.

But then there's like crazy logistics to think about what exactly would happen if he did that.

I don't even see how that would work with secret service there and such.
