...this wasn't meant to be a full reveal. It was never teased to be that. It was always sold as MS and DF clarifying the specs.

Exactly. E3 will be the place for that. After seeing the DF impressions, I'm even more excited to see what games will actually look like running on Scorpio.

Ok OK. I'm impatient and eagerly await E3!!!!!!!

This spec reveal is just weird imo
I think it's great, rather than the lacklustre PS4 Pro reveal we got. Some info and videos on HDR and 4k resolution that most of us couldnt really discern during the stream.

Spec reveals are for geeks like us anyway, so for me it's better than that. More info to read/watch about while keeping the big guns under wraps come E3.

Also would give them time to properly prepare Scorpio enhanced games (which I doubt many devs have at the moment, other than the Forza team)

My biggest takeaway from the Digital Foundry Scorpio articles is that an alarmingly large portion of GAF has severe deficiencies in reading and mathematical computation, as well as an understanding of technology that is NOT indicative of what one would expect from members of an enthusiast forum

This is one of the worst console reveals I've ever seen in the history of videogames. Specs are meaningless. Games need to be shown off. This is not what I was expecting to be shown with the Scorpio. I need to see crack down 3 with its new destructible tech. Impress me Microsoft!!!!!!!
This is the tech reveal. Project Scorpio, will get it's official name and full reveal likely at E3.

I don't know if it's the worst but it's certainly the weirdest. I don't know what these specs truly mean so it's still as though I don't really know anything about this console.

Once again. This was not the reveal. Microsoft invited the guys at digital foundry to go over to Edmund so they could look at and discuss the final specs and DF are reporting what they've seen and heard.

We will have details of games, price, bundles, features and what the thing looks like at E3.

Jesus...this wasn't meant to be a full reveal. It was never teased to be that. It was always sold as MS and DF clarifying the specs.

That's what E3 is for.

This is more of a specs reveal than a console reveal. They didn't show the box, the price, or the release date. E3 isn't that far away

Go to your room, and put on the dunce cap.

MS never advertised this as an official reveal, just a hardware reveal which it was. The full reveal with games is E3.

If only there was some sort of gathering of the electronic industry coming up to show off their latest entertainment options, an expo, if you will.

This was always going to be a spec breakdown, nothing more, and nothing less. E3 will have more of what you're looking for.

I'm surprised how many people took the bait on this one

I'm sure many of us who haven't bought UHD players yet will jump at the Scorpio for the player alone (me!).

But please Microsoft start supporting all this tech with some decent first party titles . . .

Being an enthusiast in gaming means you are interesting in how hardware/software works? It's like calling out a movie lover for not knowing anything about cameras and directing lol...

I can just imagine the people pouring their heart in to this thing and coming on here and seeing people go "meh so its a little better than PS4 pro" just a giant dagger through the heart
So? You don't think the guys at Sony also poured their hearts into the Pro? If they wanted it to be seen as more than slightly better than the Pro, the specs should support that. What I'm seeing doesn't. The GPU is slightly better, it has more RAM, it has the same CPU bottleneck.

Exactly.

Which is why multiplatform games won't have a disparity other than [possibly] framerate.

Why are there no Mattrick gifs in here?

Looks real good. Can't wait to pick it up day one.

I posted a secret one earlier :)

The machine is beautifully engineered, right down to the state-of-the-art vapour cooling system that will keep that monster graphics processor cool. It's a far cry from Xbox One, Kinect and TVTVTV. It reminds us of the original Xbox and Xbox 360 - this is Microsoft throwing its considerable engineering resources at making the best possible games-playing machine. Xbox is back.

There's been several. But this thread moves too fast lol

Good to know others are thinking of that fuckwit too.

More than impressed with scorpio. Microsoft were smart to let someone else get the specs out.. Crackdown and State of Decay 2 on this are making me impatient

And as I said, that's very weird compared to a normal console launch.

I wont be buying a Scorpio (MS is not supported in my country, not really interested in the first party games etc) but damned Id be envious if CDProjekt decides to patch in Scorpio support for the Witcher 3.

You do know there are more zen CPU's than the 8 core variants right?

You go with less than 8 physical cores, you break XBO game backward compat. You can't even go 8 threaded with 4 core Ryzen.

Hell, I don't think even 8 core Ryzen is a guarantee for full compatibility. They really had no option but Jaguar. Even if you went 8 core Jag+ say 2 core Ryzen, then you are forcing devs to basically make two very different versions of the games for Scorpio and XBO.

Some people in this thread are just getting nasty. Time for believers to abandon thread and leave the haters to continue spreading vitriol?

Do we know if the Kinect will work?

I imagine at this point, they feel that they've shown enough detail to prove that it has power. I also imagine they know that people in gaming forums comments run the gambit from reasonable to frothing at the mouth insanity in terms of response/expectation. This is also not the reveal, and I don't think they put too much stock in people's reactions to it just yet.

Please, it is quite ahead of the Pro now. The GPU is much better, it does not have the same CPU bottleneck at all, it is still jaguar architecture at its base, but will be far more efficient and powerful and 12gb DDR5 makes a hell of a lot of difference against 8gb DDR5. Quit trolling.

It is a bigger jump in power from PS4 Pro than the Xbox One was to PS4. I get it will all inevitably become a fanboy war, but you'd think you could get an honest discussion of the specs.

So, to the tech savvy people, are these 6tf achieved with these specs enough for a decent VR Experience?

I remmember something about MS talking to developers and reaching the conclusion that 6tf were the amount needes for a consistent VR experience.

Where you get Polaris from?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-project-scorpio-tech-revealed

How Microsoft managed to achieve this speaks to the quality of the engineering elsewhere in the box, but the fact is that Scorpio's GPU is only 94MHz off the maximum boost clock of AMD's Polaris-based RX 480 graphics card, which only has 36 compute units - and requires a meaty custom cooler to sustain its max boost clock
It's an overclocked RX 480 as Pro is a downclocked one. Vega wouldn't need that high clocks for 6Tflops.

Hm... I just realized that they didn't mention whether or not an IR blaster would be included. Fingers crossed for that one. It's one of the main reasons I upgraded to the One S (besides a price error).

I wish DF would stop lying through their teeth already and give us the real, unbiased facts.

While they're definitely neophiles I see zero evidente that they're lying about their enthusiasm. They're also a little more than willing to reiterate untested claims about the importance of customizations to stock designs, but given that there's no way to test a typical title running on multiple platforms at this point I guess that's to be expected. Consumers should know what they're getting in terms of coverage this early on. Anything new and slightly different is unprecedented and amazing, which gets a little old when you've seen the cycle repeat over and over, but at least it's consistent. They also had some of the most positive coverage of the PS4 Pro when it was first revealed.

yeah, but what's the real world performance of that? I had a friend who played Horizon on a monitor and then played it in 4K and wasn't really impressed. It's a jump in fidelity, but we enthusiast do exaggerate the real world difference at times.

Sitting down with Destiny on PS4 Pro and Scorpio isn't going to be some huge deal to likely majority of the gaming industry. Scropio is roughly 50% more powerful, it's what Pro would have been if it came out this year. It's comparable to PS4 > X1, slightly bigger jump, but again, I don't see the real world differences being that major once the games start rolling out.
