Not really sure about this 'Sonygaf' nonsense, when 8 of the top 10 were multiplats and it's not like Doom and Overwatch were that far behind Uncharted 4.

Any bonus that platform exclusives have in an enthusiastic fan base is pretty much always equalled by the advantage that multiplat titles have in sheer audience. Accusing the forum of 'teh bias' rather than just voting for what everyone enjoyed just comes across as sour grapes.

I also looked up my recommendations:

The Witness -> Played it, but not enough of yet. What was there was good but being stumped turning it off and playing Rocket League is hard to overcome.
Titanfall 2 -> Not that much into FPS any more, played the beta and thought it was alright.
Final Fantasy XV -> Will consider later, dumb character look but people seem to like it overall.
Overwatch -> Played the beta and thought it was alright.
Dishonored 2 -> I'm intrigued but I like the third person perspective more.
Firewatch -> Was specifically told not to play it and have now been randomly spoiled on the ending.
DOOM -> I have it, despite my reluctance to play FPS.
World of Final Fantasy -> Nah son.
Watch Dogs 2 -> Could use that 3 hour trial to see if they got rid of the collectathon gameplay loop of recent Ubisoft titles
Dark Souls 3 -> I thought Demon's Souls back in the day was alright and Bloodborne more recently was okay for a few hours due to the speed but in general I don't think so.

Uncharted 4, really deserved. Fantastic game.
Doom on 2nd, congratz. Probably noone saw this coming a few months before release because of some poor showings. Really a small sleeper hit.
DSIII was a little disappointing for me, but only because I have high expectations for this series. Was still one of the best games of the year for me.
TLG in top 5, great as well.

I even played most games from this top 20, except for BF1, FE and Pokemon (I'm waiting for Pokemon Stars). Well, and XCom not for long since it ran super terribly on my PC. I'll probably rebuy it for PS4 at a later date.

So yes, I can totally live with this list.

This place is without a doubt not SonyGAF. There are tons of Playstation, PC, Nintendo, etc fans.

The one this it most certainly is not is XboxGAF. Pretty crazy looking back how even during its peak years where it had huge install base globally not many mentions for awards at all.

Drake + Sully are among the best characters ever and they completely make up for any minor gripe I have with the UC series. When I think Uncharted I think Drake and Sully. Well deserved.

Uncharted 4 has improved a load too post-release, I find it a bit disappointing that the extra maps and multi-player modes they've added haven't been given more coverage in the media as they are pretty substantial for unpaid expansions.

Its kinda sad to me that when a developer actually puts in the effort to make a successful title better, they don't get a much credit for it. It really ought to get more attention if only to encourage other studios and publishers to go the same route.

#1, 2, 4, and 6 were fantastic games that lived up to their legacy. Glad to see they were enjoyed by many.

Hitman being on the top 10 is a surprise, might have to play that soon.

Yep. And Journey is the only one of those five that I really feel was undeserved, but 2012 was a terrible year for games so I guess it's fitting...

Sony's just been putting out some damn good games.

There were always more hyped games. In 2006 gears was second behind Zelda TP. In 2007 Halo 3 was against Bioshock , Super Mario Galaxy , Orange box and Mass Effect.

Hotline Miami was robbed. etc

Besides if anyone truly believes the SonyGAF thing, what do you think happened in 2014? All of the Sony Ponies were banned in December-January? :lol

Xbox as a platform has just never had much to offer compared to Playstation. It has a few good exclusives but that's about it. Its justification for existing in the market has gotten slimmer with this gen, though admittedly the 360 sold very well (I own one).

But, all things being equal I think it would be best if the market was just Sony and Nintendo.

Keep in mind I was nowhere near GAF that far back, and neither were probably the majority of the active members. I'm referring to the current trend, in which there seems to be very little Xbox representation over the past 5-6 years

Fire Emblem Fates has come a long, long way to crack the top 20 of a largely home console/PC- oriented forum, beating Gears of War and Watch Dogs. Especially as it's a series where, despite the recent games claiming an expanded audience recently, they face a lot of criticism on Gaf for changes made.

Surprised the 3DS had two entries in the top 20 in 2016.

It's kind of hard to look at that list though and not see a Sony bias here. Half of the GOTY's in the last decade have been Sony exclusives. All of those games are good games so it's not worth getting in an argument about but there is no denying the bias towards playstation games here, and that's ok because it is clearly the more popular platform here and it has been for years so those games should be getting more votes.

Yeah me too. Just checking old threads. And i agree with you on the current trend. Maybe it's MS fault though. They made strange decision since 2009.

Did not expect Dishonored 2 to be that low, and it's a damn shame. That game is fantastic. Surprised to see FFXV do that well, but I'm happy for it because I love that flawed gem of a game.

5/8 of those were sony exclusives. Just shows you why gamers like PS4 and how Sony knows what they are doing.

Eh maybe, but I don't really think so in terms of quality games (though Sony has been better than MS lately on average). It's probably just an install base thing. Sony does extremely well pandering to the core in general and MS has traditionally done well with the Madden / COD / NBA crowd who if you asked them what a NeoGAF was they would look at you confused as hell. MS has never really been able to grab the enthusiast demographic.

Sony is riding high as hell right now though as they've got both the enthusiast and the casual this gen.

Wanted to say this but didn't want to start a war for no reason if ppl took it the wrong way. Nintendo has no problem being in goty lists and winning them(when they release games this year was bad) but I guarantee next year Splatoon 2,Mario Odyssey,Zelda and if it comes out Xenoblade 2 will be close to top 10 with Mario and Zelda almost guaranteed (unless all these games suck but I mean...Come on)
