What are some good animation movies for watch?

Let me be more specific: in looking mostly high-animation quality anime movies, or action animated movies with over the-top moments and overall appealing design. Things like:

Cyborg 009 .vs Devilman
Redline
Ghost In the Shell
Akira
Fist of The North Star (those OVAS with really difficult names)

Any other similars? I personally consider both Batman The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One to be and Western animated demostratation of what i'm actually looking.

Steamboy is sort of a "looks first" production. Pretty impressive scale.

I've always loved Satoshi Kon's films, personally. Try Paprika.
It's far more subtle, but absolutely beautiful.

Anything directed by Mamoru Hosoda qualifies, though its admittedly not so much detailed animation as it is expressive. The work I'd personally recommend is Summer Wars, which is basically a remake of Digimon: Our War Game, which he also directed.

I wouldn't recommend you to watch Kizumonogatari first. It's the movie, and it's not supposed to be watched first. If you're interested, you should watch Bakemonogatari first (a really good anime), it's the minimal requirement before watching the movie.

It's 15 episodes long, and the beginning of a really large serie. You only really need to watch this one to understand the movie, but if you're hooked, there's like 8 others anime that are part of the serie.

Just about ANY anime film looks 10x more impressive than TV shows. Except stuff by Kyoto Animation where the films are only a mere 2x as good looking (which is actually a compliment because their shows are beautifully done).

Also, I'd argue the Deviman OVA has better animation than the recent Cyborg 009 version;

Might just be my rose-tinted specs though
