iOS Gaming November 2016 | Apple unbinds Isaac

Just discovered this really promising SRPG. Anyone seen Demon's Rise 2? Got a pretty positive review on Pocket Tactics, and the first game got a HUGE amount of post release updates that added new classes, mechanics, modes, and missions
https://appsto.re/us/ZbDUeb.i
It's $4.99 for a limited time, going up to $9.99 in a few days

If you've played the first (or just need some cool details to sell you), this post from the dev works well:
If you want to compare this to DR when it launched, there's a massive difference. However, because I have actively back-ported all the new features I made for this game to Demon's Rise 1 as updates, the core of the two games now are similar. This is something I'll continue to do as I develop more Demon's Rise games ... so for example, the weather system that I'm working on now for Demon's Rise - Temple of Shadows will be back ported to earlier Demon's Rise games. It's something I like to do to separate myself from other games and keep all the games at a consistent level of quality.

Now in terms of new stuff for Demon's Rise 2:

- This game is more open with larger maps. It is less of a dungeon crawler and more of an open battle game at first. The campaign does eventually go back to confined dungeons in later levels.
- There are 130+ new enemies featuring some HUGE monsters that just don't exist in Demon's Rise 1. There are full sized dragons and Wyverns that make the biggest monsters in Demon's Rise look like puppies.
- There's a much more interesting campaign / story with this game, in my opinion. Players control the "bad guys" though that's kind of a grey term in the world of Demon's Rise. You have access to demonic powers and dark magic. The character classes are not typical at all ... so none of the usual Paladin / Dwarf / Elf Archer classes.

Lots of other stuff too. I personally have a lot more fun with Demon's Rise 2 because I love the atmosphere and the amount of bloodshed is just at another level. You will face seemingly overwhelming enemy forces in this game and yet somehow (if all goes well), one or two of your warriors will end the battle standing on a mountain of corpses. It's seriously a lot of fun. I playtested this game a lot more to try and get most levels at that right level of challenge / difficulty.
Yep ... I'm working on an update that adds 5 more characters:

- Vampire Knight
- Chaos Ogre
- Weresquid Sorceror
- Blade Dancer (female barbarian / berserker)
- Female Mongolian style raider (not decided on name yet)

Hopefully the update will drop before end of the month.

This is my first time playing steam world heist. Once you get past the first couple of levels does it stop showing you bullet trajectory? I just did one and it didn't show any bullet paths, made it really freaking difficult

Haven't played the Demon Rise series but I am keeping an attentive eye on their next game Strike Team which looks like an amazing XCOM-like for mobile.

Yes, I've been playing it. It's good. A little overwhelming at times due to huge battles. Controls can be a little finicky but generally work well.

It's also different in that you pretty much have some narrative text then a battle then narrative then battle. There's no exploration.

All that said, it's well done and much improved over the dev's first game. Nice graphics and a ton of characters that are very unique.

I need to play it more myself. The battles can be fairly lengthy so kind of need to set aside some time for it. And it's also punishing to the point where I will probably lower the difficulty.

Unlike other SRPGs, it's very much like a dice based game where you can and will miss a lot of your attacks.

Worth checking out if it sounds up your alley.

It depends on your gun

Also, bullets travel straight, so if your gun doesnt have sights, you got to take regular shots rather than ricochet shots

Oh cool, I didn't realize it was from the same devs

trying to find a new TD/RPG to tie me over... any opinions on tiny guardians and solitairica?

I keep staying hopefull I'll be surprised and battleheart 2 will randomly drop any week now... (lol :) legacy ended up meh for me but I still go log time into the OG. Anything from Ironhide is another waiting game... it feels like eons since we've gotten anything new though i know they've been updating their games on steam and that space themed mobile game keeps slipping away...

If you liked Battleheart, you'd probably really like Tiny Guaridans. It's basicallly a reverse TD with Battleheart type mechanics. Great game.

Solitairica is also fantastic if you like card battlers. One of the most addictive in the genre with simple gameplay but lots of strategic variables (spells, etc.).

Does anyone know of any good gladiator management or dungeon adventurer management games? I'm actually on android but interested in any platform, really [though obviously this is an ios thread so if you know of a killer one on, say, steam, please pm me].

For the dungeon adventurer one I mean somehow controlling parties and sending them out... sort of like Soda Dungeon but maybe more focused on management. [and as opposed to Dungeon Keeper games where you control the dungeon].

I found a game called Merchant which sort of gets it right, but is way focused on crafting and reselling [economy] rather than finding lewt.

For the gladiator game, I mean exactly that. Running a ludus / gladiator school sort of thing. Preferably stat based, if there's active combat then turn based, not 'action'. Gladius is a great example, if you ever played that.

EDIT - I suppose it could be monsters/creatures instead of gladiators if it still felt like management.

I would greatly prefer paying for the game over f2p, if such a game exists. Anyone have any ideas?

Asphalt Extreme is giving me some serious Excite Trucks vibe.

Anybody tried it? How bullshitty is the IAP?

IAP structure is very similar to Asphalt 8.

Biggest difference is there are now "oil changes" that must be done to cars after a while. Hasn't impeded me from continuing to play since I can use other cars in different races. These can be shortened using the less frequent premium currency. But if you play for long periods, it certainly could stop you from progressing.

Otherwise it's similar to A8, which may have been too annoying for some people but I found pretty generous.

I've played at least 30 races so far without spending a penny and expect that if the normal currency is consistent with A8 that I should be able to do so.

I'm enjoying it. Just depends on your feelings for A8's style of racing (with more emphasis on off road) and it's F2P structure.

Odd, I am seeing the city backdrop and rain. But also playing on a 6S+. Maybe that's it? Using Metal maybe?

My graphics look like closer to your first screenshot. Definitely not just a plain background in the second one.

Oh and the controls are very responsive on my phone.

Honestly been doing most of my gaming on it because I do notice a difference. Pretty much play only slower paced games on my mini 2.

Does your phone get warm when playing it for an extended period? Mine does and I'm currently trying to fiddle with the graphic settings to see if I can reduce it, any tips?

Haven't had any heating issues yet but haven't played for more than maybe 30 minutes at a time. I was using the default graphics settings but after you mentioned that resolution thing went in and changed to whatever "high" ticks off on the list. Think only film grain was added as effect. Still performed great on my 6S+ with that on.

Found your comment on the dynamic resolution decrease setting interesting that it made performance worse since that is a "low" setting.

Overall impressive performance, control responsiveness and graphical assets so far. Hoping to get more time to dig into it tonight.

Funny that you mention that because I just paired Film Grain and DRD together and the FPS drops seemed to stop. Playing some more and I noticed DRD seems to do a good job at reducing the warmth of the phone.

It is really annoying how most games don't sync properly (or at all) across iOS devices.
Anyway I've spent a good amount of time playing on my iPad lately, mostly playing strategy games. Hopefully there is more to come.

The latest update to Invisble is great. Huge difference in loading and UI quality.

Cool. The loading times were especially annoying. Have so many games on my plate that I haven't really been playing it. This will give me some incentive to dive back in.

Aaaaaaand I'm back!

I'm really excited about Total War: Rome having finally released, as well as Jade Empire and Steamworld Heist. But I haven't actually bought any of them, as I have found out that I actually don't spend much time in my games, so I am being a bit more picky about what games I'll buy going forward.

I'm also glad to see LUMINES getting new song packs.

I'm hooked! But the timers are really strict which is a bit annoying.

From the Slayin' devs? SOLD
Well I wouldn't go in expecting Slayin gameplay (actually it's a Super Mario Bros clone) but the controls are smooth and it's packed with charm!

Speaking of charm(lol), why can't they just release BoI already!? I'm fighting the urge everyday to play Afterbirth on PC but I don't want ruin it for me on mobile!

Now I'm interested.

Any verdict?
Short (not that that's a bad thing), gorgeously atmospheric. and not exactly a game. More like interactive art. Kind of like Vectorpark's Metamorphabet; it's about the visuals and mood and seeing how the world reacts to your inputs, rather than actual puzzles.

I'd say it's worthwhile since the look and stages are really interesting, but know what you're getting into. About an hour long work of interactive art

Great to hear you are enjoying it.

Which timers?
Uhm, the Rival matches for the Tourneys, considering there's a good chance you might lose the match.
The presentation is fantastic though, getting those interceptions feels great. The timer is a tad short and you can only really manage one, two touchdowns at most for each half, but I guess longer makes them too time consuming and you want people engaging in the economy of the game. I'll probably get the promotion and see how far along it'll take me, hate getting those spikes in spending that throws balance all over the place but it's what it is.

It also caught my eye that you can't pay for double rewards for winning, just play the ad

Thanks for the detailed feedback.
No problem.

I'm also confused as to what the silver currency is for. Spent some to make the stadium bigger which makes each win get you more of it, but other than that and the special player offer for the day, that's it.

There's a weird bug, probably server side, the exclusive offer is stuck in 1hr:39

I'm considering Mini Metro at some point, but I'm still not sure what it is about. If it is about lining up lines, kind of like in Ticket to Ride.

I also just got beta access to Fugl, but it doesn't work on an iPad Pro 9.7 yet.

If you want to have an idea of how Mini Metro works (the app is fantastic) and have a PC or MAC, you can try the alpha put online by the dev, just google mini metro alpha.

It has nothing to do with Ticket to Ride tough.
