Final Fantasy XV Judgment Disc demo out now on JPSN & JP Xbox Store

Downloaded the demo today, spent most of the time running around to markers on the map and doing a few quests until the demo ended. Hard to know what to do as it's in Japanese, but I had fun regardless.

Nice level of good quality motion blur, very nice should smoothen it out more feel and look smoother

Digital Foundry has confirmed the game runs at 1800p on PS4 Pro. From the NXGamer thread, the blur is because of a stronger implementation of TAA and Motion Blur otherwise the pixel count indicates an 1800p resolution with improved visual effects to boot.

Where did Digital Foundry confirm this? Is there a video/are they going to make a video? :)

So that is indeed the 4k checkerboard mode they were talking about...hm...
It looks good but it isn't that big of an upgrade as people probably have hoped for. I mean, many praised the upcoming Pro mode to the high heavens in advance. ;)

Question for everyone:
If the game runs/looks exactly like this HQ mode in the final game, are you satified?

Just got an email from SE us with a private link for the ultimate edition!!! Got my order in, fuck you ebay scalpers.

Congrats! Sounds like there are a ton of links going out today because they are prepping shipments....I imagine a decent number of people cancelled after re-thinking the price tag.

Considering they enhanced quite a few subtle features in the game and improved IQ, I think it is as good as I hoped. I think th game is now doing itself justice (it must be noted tthat he PS4 version already looks very good overall). I can't see why anyone would expect much more, given that they never promised anything more than this.

Good IQ is what you can expect from a 1800p (4K) mode, and that's what we got so I'm totally satisfied. Especially if they can fix the frame pacing issue.

I am sure later parts of the game will look visually even more pleasing than this demo. A lot comes from the setting not being all that appealing. And even despite that the demo knows how to impress sometimes.

I've put the demo down after 7 very enjoyable hours. I don't want to overplay before the actual final product comes out in mere weeks.

The Platinum demo killed my interest for FFXV, but this demo has made me a believer. Can't wait!!

I've seen some people saying how they are concerned about the game's world feeling empty and there isn't much to do in its environments (at least not in the demo). So, I thought it would be a good idea to post some quotes from a recent ME:A thread in which we were actually talking about the exact opposite problem that DA:I had and how it might affect ME:A in a negative way.

EatChildren made some good points there that I think people should keep in mind when they look at XV's OW design. I'll just quote him here:

[...]

What matters is how we interact with that content, if the game systems are fun to engage with, narrative/setting/lore context ascribed to said content, and the balance of reward and distribution to avoid redundancy and repetition.

My issue with Inquisition was that maps are loaded with so much content that the sense of reward is trivialised as going anywhere, doing anything dumps incremental XP growth with no real way to distinguish between major accomplishments and stopgaps.

[...]

There's no balance in reward pacing, no sense of accomplishment. There's little challenge in engaging with the content itself as there's so much of it readily handed to you over and over and over again. And much of it is light or outright devoid of narrative context. Despite having "so much to do" it all blurs together into a meaningless nothingness.

It's the same problem I have with Ubisoft games; their open worlds are filled with content that has little narrative context and is tied to incremental XP/economy boosts for game systems that are almost always broken in reward pacing. It's all just repeated junk over and over.

[...]
[..]

I kinda feel in terms of content BioWare really wanted to pander to the "always something to do" audience, much like an MMO, where it's borderline impossible to walk five meters without being rewarded for an encounter, point of interest, discovery, secret, trinket, or whatever else. It just went overboard in my opinion, and I feel negative space is absolutely essential in these kinds of games to balance reward and give a perception of uniqueness to the stuff you discover.

[...]

I obviously haven't played XV so I don't know how much content it actually has in its world. But if having lesser amount of contents in the world helps the sense of reward and accomplishment then I surely won't mind it. (as long as the OW doesn't turn out to be another MGSV in regards to its emptiness)

Anyone know how to fight the bandersnatch? In at the pond area and there's some ominous music but it just doesn't show up lol.

Try creating a new game. I suspect it has to do with whether you played the tutorial. My first game I choose Yes for tutorial and no bandersnatch, no iron giant, no bombs. The second time around I picked No for tutorial and check the pit first thing after I have control and sure enough it was there. Iron giant and bombs also spawned the first time I tried driving at night.

Probably assume that if you want to play the tutorial you are new so all the more punishing elements got disabled.

Yeah, I do agree. As some here might now, I didn't exactly expect much from the Pro upgrade. I expected a clean IQ and that was it basically. I think the IQ that we got isn't exactly the greatest, and I had a hard time believing this was actually 1800p (as many others), but additionally we got nice minor upgrades like better texture filtering, nicer vegetation and higher resolution shadow maps. That's actually more than I had hoped for. I'll gladly take this and live with a seemingly low quality 1800p IQ.
Lol, I really don't understand why it doesn't seem like 1800p at all. Uncharted 4 seems so clean and clear in "just" 1400p.

I'm surprised too that it's blurry considering it's 1800p on the Pro. SE should provide an option to dial down the TAA.

Looks like a 1080p upscale with anti-aliasing on my 4K TV.

I read it's a combination of bad AA solution (TAA) and cheap motion blur. Hope they fix this, but probably not. But yeah, TLoU looks much more crispy downsampled from 1800p to 1080p

I was really negative about the Platinum demo, but still hoped the game would be good. The positive impressions and gameplay footage from the press made me much more interested, and I had an absolute blast playing this demo and can't wait for the full game now.

I think releasing the Platinum demo was a big mistake. It was a really poor showing of the game. But I hope with all the new positive info coming in, people who were rightfully turned away from the game will give it a second look.

Yup. They should have just skipped it, and released only this.

Even Duscae 3.0 would've been better than Platinum Demo as it shows how the actual game plays.

Platinum demo was great at least for me, granted I spent more than 20 hrs trying out the combat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The PD gets better as you explore and fight the iron giant more and more.
If you just do the bare minimum, don't get the secret weapons, and only fight the giant once, its a pretty shit demo.

Definitely NOT something that should have been used as promo material.

Even as someone who loved exploring the combat system, I dreaded going through those 5 minutes of Kid Noctis every time I wanted to test something.

Were these captured on OG PS4 or PS4 Pro? And were they modified after the fact? They look too good.

Edit: ZOMG I'm finally a freakin' member.

Speaking about the Platinum Demo, I don't know how I feel about the Greatsword no longer recovering large chunks of MP. I hope it's just because we need a specific Greatsword for that, and not that the ability is gone.

I just LOVE Noctis' default outfit.

Its so beautifully modeled and the way its moving parts(that JACKET!) flow in the wind is incredibly impressive.

I haven't seen a single instance of clipping. Such a good outfit.

So, a future PS4 Pro enhancement patch notwithstanding - how do you all feel about the graphics in regards to the original intent to make FFXV look on-par or even better than "FFVII: Advent Children"?

it's available for purchase IRL at roen
it's about 1400$ or more tho :(

A price fit for a prince casual road trip XD

Probably a specific sword with that ability

I hope this huge sword is still in

We are getting closer.

Some of the OG PS4 shots that feature up-close shots of the characters look at least on-par with "FFVII Advent Children" to me.

I can't wait to see a full-optimization patch for FFXV that takes full advantage of the PS4 Pro!!

Maybe then it will completely top FFVII:AC.

I think FFXV looks already better in some ways. Of course CG has the luxury of perfect IQ, better special effects etc. but Advent Children is old already and it shows.

Another question I have is in regards to the real-time weather.

Are there different levels of rain in the demo/final game? I mean like sprinkling rain, light rain, heavy rain and even thunderstorms?

Have the devs discussed this before?

Skin shaders look a lot better than the skin in the Advent Children models. When using controlled lighting (Like in cutscenes) and good amounts of anti-aliasing, the XV models look pretty close to the AC ones, and even better in some areas. Check out the Noctis' closeup on the Dawn trailers. It's fucking awesome.

I think the greatest challenge will be the hair.

Can you please find out how to get out of the demo limit areas for the judgment disc demo,
okay thanks.

Once my pro arrives today.. it's 4:11 pm and it's out for delivery I've been waiting all day for ups to come. When you live in NYC sometimes they leave packages outside and I don't want my pro robbed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wow!

Based on those comparisons, Final Fantasy XV blows away FFVII:AC!! In fact, that FFVII:AC picture you posted looks like something from a "Kingdom Hearts" game to me now when I see it next to FFXV!

No joke!

I don't think this is accurate because I did the tutorial and the bombs and iron giant spawned at night. Where is that other monster st?

Right as someone who hasn't kept that much up with the game. Is there any benefit to not just holding square all the time in battle if you aren't attacking?

Also where is best for trying out and getting better at the combat?
