I see SteamWorld Heist featured by Apple, at least in Italy.
Is that so in USA too?

BTW...and I'm a bit selfish here :)....I really hope the game will have a nice commercial success, after having been on many other platforms....so maybe the devs which are clearly talented will prioritize iOS for their next tile, not to mention maybe port the Metroidvania one (SteamWorld Dig).

It's a turn based strategy game, with a bit of RPG too, in 2D.
You basically explore spaceships to fight enemies and gather loot, leveling up your chars, recruiting new ones, equipping them and following a general story.

Think XCOM with a nice 2D side view.

It really works well.

Regarding cloud saving.....

It wasn't a priority when I asked and I doubt it'll be implemented soon.

How difficult is it to implement? It seems like something that shouldn't be too difficult. I don't know what I'm talking about though, so I would like to hear from someone who knows. Why is it not a more common feature?

Been playing a ton of Buffalo Bison: Launcha Libre since yesterday.

I was a BIG fan of the first one and plowed through (hurr hurr) it in a matter of just a few hours. It was a simple game with a cute and funny mechanic that didn't have a whole ton of substance to it, but you could complete the thing in one sitting so it was a good time waster.

Launcha Libre is everything a sequel should be. There are a ton of new things to unlock, with each one being able to be upgraded up to 10 times. There are new Launchalibros, the character you launch, who add some diversity to the gameplay. There are a slew of new bosses to kill, all of which can also be upgraded. The graphics have been cleaned up and the overall presentation is much tighter and more professional looking.

The gameplay is simple, for those who don't know. You launch your Launchalibro at your opponent by pulling back on the cords of the wrestling ring and letting go. Your character flies high in the air, and your job is to maintain, and gain, speed for as long as you can by crushing gummy bears and smashing through giant walls of cake to reach the next area (with each area granting you larger and larger sums of coins). You have a rocket dash which rockets you down into a body slam against any gummy bears below, but this is also to be used to maintain speed if you are about to hit the ground and there are no gummy bears below you. Each Launchalibro is different, however, with Buffalo Bison having a body slam, Pineapple Sling having a grappling hook of sorts (she's my favorite), and El Pollo having the ability to briefly fly before slamming down (if there are more libros, I am not aware, as I have not unlocked everything). Each time you play a round, the libros get rotated out, so you do not have the choice to select which character you wish to play with. This is both good and bad, as it keeps the gameplay varied, but I kind of really don't like playing as El Pollo, but oh well.

It's all very simple and perfect for mobile and pick-up-and-play. My issue? The currency. You will notice quickly it takes VERY long to amass enough coins to purchase items and upgrades, and the prices on the items balloons into the stratosphere VERY quickly. The game DOES NOT offer the ability to purchase any coins, which is great! It does, however, sell Pinatas (think of them as a treasure chest full of coins and powerups), with a three pack going for $2.99 and a 15 pack going for $8.99. You can also purchase permanent powerups, such as a coin doubler for $9.99, an ad remover for $7.99, or power pinatas, which increase their contents by 3, for $11.99. There is no indication that purchasing just the coin doubler would also remove ads, but I am assuming you would need to purchase the ad remover to do that. Ads are not annoying AT ALL in the game. You will only ever see an ad when attempting to open a pinata you found during a launch, or one of your free pinatas (becomes available every 3 hours, and can also be tripled by watching a 30 second ad). It is pretty stupid that you MUST watch an ad to open a pinata, OR spend $7.99 on the ad remover to just open them immediately, however, but the ads are never longer than 30 seconds, so it's a small price to pay. Another strange choice they made with the game is you will occasionally come across a sale bonus on a particular power-up, generally cutting the cost of an upgrade by 75%. This is clearly the developer acknowledging the fact that the upgrades are entirely too expensive and giving us some respite, but it begs the question why they didn't just make things cheaper? Clearly they bowed to some pressure to have IAP that would alleviate this problem, but went about it in a very strange way.

That being said, it's a great little game that can be played entirely without spending any money. It's just going to take you a very, very long time to unlock and upgrade everything to the fullest.

Cubed Rally World, a F2P sequel to Cubed Rally Redline, is out.

The loop of unlocking new vehicles to extend the length of your race track (and thus, your possible high score) is pretty fun so far. Every vehicle has a different play style to their section of the track.

I personally am liking it a lot more than Steamworld Dig (the Metroidvania one). Dig to me got too repetitive and didn't hook me.

It's not really a true Metroidvania with a full story, etc. More of a mining game with enemies.

Popping in to say thank god I'm back on iOS - have an iPhone SE after limping along on an LG G3 for ages, so now I can jump back into the iOS gaming scene after being out for about a year and a half. I went through the past few threads, so thanks as always for the dedication, GAF. Of course, in classic iOS fashion, I bought a handful of fascinating sounding games and then just spent the past few weeks doing almost nothing but playing Mini Metro. :)

As there any good golf games in recent times? The only one I really got into was GolfStar, the F2P one from a long ways back.

Popping in to say thank god I'm back on iOS - have an iPhone SE after limping along on an LG G3 for ages, so now I can jump back into the iOS gaming scene after being out for about a year and a half. Of course, in classic iOS fashion, I bought a handful of fascinating sounding games and then just spent the past few weeks doing almost nothing but playing Mini Metro. :)

As there any good golf games in recent times? The only one I really got into was GolfStar, the F2P one from a long ways back.
The 2 most notable recent golf games are Neo Turf Masters and Stickman Golf 3. Neo is pretty fantastic and more traditional. Stickman is equally great but 2D and more arcadey. I recommend both

What's the game progression like? Single player? Levels/stages with the occasional boss? A high-score chaser / arcade game?

Do you know how far you can play without hitting a pay wall? The IAP costs are comically greedy and exceed the prices of presumably far better, premium games. That's too bad because the screenshots looked interesting.

It's essentially an endless runner/high-score chaser, so you will always start at square one (which is a wrestling ring). You go through "stages", which visually change very little (the color of the background will change from day to night, the gummy bears go from blue to yellow to purple to green to red), by gaining enough speed to pass through a giant cake. There is no break in the flow of the game, you just carry onward trying to go as fast as you can to make it to the end. Once you pass through the fifth cake wall, you reach the "boss", which isn't much a boss as just a giant wall you must smash into by reaching the end multiple times until you do it enough to defeat him. The game is very repetitive due to this, and can feel a bit like a grind, but the overall gameplay is simple and fun enough to not feel like you're just doing the same thing over and over and over again (despite the fact that is exactly what you're doing). What lends its addictive nature is the sense of speed. Once you have upgraded your speedometer a few times and can reach speeds over 240MPH, the gameplay is very rewarding and the rush you get from going so fast is very cool.

Once you beat the boss, you reach another world where the rewards come flying at you MUCH faster, so the unlocks come quicker then, but it took me probably about 10 hours of solid playing to be able to beat the boss and reach this second world. There was never a point where I felt I NEEDED to purchase anything, but it would have been nice to get some form of relief. The prices of the IAPs are absolutely insane.

The game needs some major tweaking in terms of its currency, but it's a fun enough game on its own if you can get past it.

Picked up dream quest and lost portal. I like lost portal better because the persistence in the deck building

RunGun JumpGun is absolutely fantastic. Loving it so far. Everything is amazing, the only downside is the name, but that doesnt matter since whats inside is pure awesomeness arcadey experience. You control a guy that can fire a machine gun, and can shoot vertically so it act as jumping and forward to destroy walls and stuff. You cant tap both at the same time so you will have to react very fast to the excelent and devious level design offered here. Expect to die but only from your mistakes... but respawning is merciful and you dont feel cheated while dying. There is also a story going on, nice tunes, tons of polish, creativity,... highly recommended arcade polished gem

I finished Rusty Lake: Roots earlier today. It was fun, but the sameyness of the Rusty Lake/Cube Escape games does also get a bit old.

SteamWorld Heist is pretty fantastic. Dat soundtrack. Wish they would bring Steamworld Dig to iOS, that game is fucking great too.

Good times to be a SRPG fan with SteamWorld and Mercenaries Saga 2. :)

What about the... it's either WGT or WTG, that uses photo backdrops of real courses? I only dabbled with it, but it seemed pretty decent.

Apparently SteamWorld Heist is doing really well (as it deserves, I might add) so all of a sudden the possibility of SteamWorld Dig (their older game, Metroidvania style) is now a possibility. They would like to know which are the best examples of similar games that do platformers right in the AppStore.

Great News! Dig is awesome too.

I'll try to remember a game with similar controls. Mines of Mars doesn't have great controls and there are a few key diferences.

If you happen to know and have played their Dig game, the better.

Honestly they may want to look at games like Junk Jack X and Terreria since the game has a lot of mining elements.
And having played the game, precision platforming isn't really something it focuses on.

I'm not a huge fan of the game TBH. The risk/reward and upgrade system make it more intriguing than the others I mentioned but still never hooked me.

Edit: the Mines of Mars comparison actually is probably the closest on iOS. Didn't get into that either. But if you did, this is much better and polished with a lot more character.
