Final Fantasy XV Judgment Disc demo out now on JPSN & JP Xbox Store

Even with them showing the invasion in the game it is done poorly. You have no context to the short clip they show of it. They should have talked about the treaty signing before going to bed and then played that whole sequence from Kingsglaive so players that haven't seen it know what's going on. Right now it's super short and has 0 context around it.

They seemingly lacked a design role on the team that would make the opening narrative coherent and stylized in the fashion of a movie...

I'm not the biggest fan of how this game handles music. The overworld generally has no music, and relies on battle or walking to certain areas to trigger musical moments.

I can appreciate that it's become this more realistic "sim" of a fantasy world by allowing for moments of realistic quiet.... but it's become a little less "FF" to me in the process. I liked how beautiful music in old FF was omnipresent, and even on an overworld you felt like you were always part of an emotionally stirring moment.

There's actually quite a bit of overworld music. I do agree with you that my personal taste would have been having those overworld tracks a little bit more present/common, but I understand exactly what the sound team is trying to achieve in terms of ambience/atmosphere.

It seems that someone found a LV49 huge snake enemy and a new dungeon: https://twitter.com/MoogleKupoCake/status/797425322685792257

I think I agree with your view then. Because I understand what they're going for too. It's just my taste, as you say, would prefer the whole thing to be constantly with score.

Its like any design decision. It's a compromise. You give up something (constant fantasy score), you get something (atmosphere, verisimilitude).

I wonder what would've costed more : a massively cinematic linear opening sequence in the game or Kingsglaive.

Kingsglaive is likely much more expensive ,because, aside from the cost of making CG, they also had to release, distribute and market it.

So they kinda hurt the structure of the game & spent more money.

But you'd have to factor in the time and resources spent on working on that opening section of the game and the rest of the game. Kingsglaive was made by separate people, but an opening section in the game would have been made by the developers, pulling them away from the rest of the game.

Personally I'm really glad it's like this. Having a piece of music repeat constantly whilst spending hours exploring the world would have gotten old very fast. It's not like in other FF games where you're typically moving from one location to the next relatively quickly.

I think it works better for this game. That's just me though.

Would it have killed them to include a fucking toggle for the lock on. It's maddening.

And no, R3 doesn't feel satisfying AT ALL. It's garbage.

Depends on how much more expensive it was, though. They can sell Kingsglaive, they couldn't sell the opening of the game.

At least I hope they couldn't.

Cost is clearly quite irrelevant in this case, they're ready to spend a fortune on it but they need it out fast. It just would have delayed the game even more if BD2 did it, while they could outsource Kingsglaive production and have it out faster.

I tried going to this area, it's blocked off due to the demo restriction. Something doesn't add up.

lol people managed to break out of Duscae, so seems like it can be done also here.

That enemy's name is Nagaraja BTW.

There's that, too.

Regarding the opening, wasn't it Tabata who said the intro was going to be something very enjoyable? The current opening is extremely underwhelming and lacks the spectacle that virtually all the 3D precedors had.

I really hope Tabata has one final trick up his sleeve and they have a better CG intro in the retail version. Maybe showcasing Regis' fight in his younger years to set the stage for XV's lore.

I think its not only a time/budget thing, but also a thematic one: if Noctis was to witness the invasion, he and the party would have been much more tense right from the beginning; this way though, you get a brief moment of relax in the characters, and even after shit goes down they are still not tramuatized as it would have been.

I guess this is Tabata's opting for a different tone and approach to the story.

I think sadly at this point there are no tricks up the sleeve of the retail version. That's the intro. My copy is literally shipped and in transit already.... but cool if I'm wrong,

(The most I'm hoping for is the "Omen" trailer as an attract mode on the disc, but I'm expecting it's not even on there).

Maybe that Tabata quote was from before Kingsglaive was announced? On paper, a full length (theatrical!) movie is the best opening a video game could have. But the reality is "sound and fury, signifying nothing".

It has been almost 2 days, why is there no framerate tests of all 3 versions on youtube? :-/

Sigh.

Because

1) it's entirely irrelevant

2) it's an unfinished build of a demo

3) real game is out in like two weeks

4) the framerates are extremely close in all cases so it would require a lot of efforts to monitor it all, it's also inconsistent due to things like camera, effects, number of enemies etc...

Are all dungeons locked?

I don't think so? When heading from the starting area to the coast, if you keep your eyes out to the left there's what looks like an abandoned mill up high on the hill. I took a stroll up there last night and the gate was open with a warning sign with a goblin head on it. Guessing it's in there but I never really checked it out. By the way is it possible to ride chocobos in this demo? Guessing not but I keep seeing feathers.

Can someone explain how magic works in this game? I've seen a few videos and people were allocating different numbers to the magic slots or something like that.

What am i doing wrong every dungeon i have encountered i cant enter i get a japanese msg which i obviously have no idea what it says

Game looks quite good on peasantPS4, other than LOD being bad on distant rocks.

Framerate is also pretty stable, although there's still some dips here and there that can be annoying. I wonder if this is final build or there will be a little more ironing done with the framerate on retail.

In the magic menu you see 4 nodes. One for Fire, one for Ice, one for Thunder and a final one for an Item on the bottom. To create simple magic you allocate a certain number of an element and press the big craft button underneath the nodes. This gets you normal magic you know from previous Final Fantasies, with strength depending on how many numbers you spent in it.

When selecting the bottom node you can choose to incorporate 1 item, restoratives or ingredients. They will alter the spell, making it double/triple cast adding status boosts, poison, healing the party around it and more.

When you can't input more elemental numbers, you have to draw them from nodes around the worldmap. Camps usually have a Fire, Thunder and Ice node nearby.

When you've finishing playing around and have crafted a spell you like, it's crafted in a magic flask, which the game will ask if you want to equip it. These flasks can be cleared from the magic menu too if you want to start over.

Been playing this one on my Slim. I didn't expect it, but it looks really good!

Performance ain't too shabby either. My Slim already has a buyer so I'll be playing this on Pro, but OG owners are in for a real treat.

Maybe whatever they do to improve the framerate on Pro in december to as close to 60fps as possible also helps OG PS4 with a couple of frames.

I see. I like that you can mix an item in to alter its effects. Do we know if different elements can be combined or is it one and only one? Also, do the elemental nodes recharge or is it gone once you draw its power?

Lol wtf was driving at night listening to Afrojack when four bombs and an Iron Giant spawned in our path
Everyone got destroyed, had to run away and abandon the car 😭

This game is gonna be great.

You can combine all 3 if you want yes. Do you mean the draw points or the nodes. The nodes have a 99 limit and do not recharge unless you draw from another source

I laughed at the magic system. Get fucked FF8 haters. :p
+1

All the intro needs is a FFXII style intro wherein a collage of scenes play giving you great background. These could easily have been lifted from kingsglaive and maybe cross matched with elements from the dawn trailer

BAM...job done. Emotional, stunning, moving yet tense intro achieved

I may make this myself once I have my grubby hands on kingsglaive...

DEVIL MAY CRY

Can't wait to pick this up.

I'm sorry to be that guy I can't let this happen.

This isn't Devil May Cry.

That pretty close in camera is virtually unplayable in 99%¨of other situations in the game because it gets stuck on everything else, trees, rocks, partners, other enemies, it's impossible to see attacks coming from other enemies while in that mode, and there is no toggle in game you have to go in the options.

On top of that, the combos are mostly automated, safe for some directional inputs, this isn't kingdom hearts.

It's an RPG twist with action like animation but I have to set your expectations right.

If you expect this to be DMC this is gonna feel like the worst game ever.

I know because I expected it to be KH2 final mix and ... yeah. Go in with a fresh mind, those animations are just eye candy, not really representative of what you're doing.

There are combos in the full game, based off weapon switching, air dancing, and some button press timing (two presses, wait, press third time etc...) but once again, go in with a fresh mind.

So does that mean I can get burn+freeze+lightning damage in a single spell? I've never seen anyone use that kind of magic before. Does it have different particle effects?

Also, I was referring to the draw points. Do those recharge after a while?

1) It's irrelevant to you maybe, I would also be interested in knowing.

2) The game went gold weeks ago. It's highly probable this demo is finished code or close to it.

3) Now that's irrelevant.

4) Welcome to every framerate comparison ever.

Yea if you look at the pgw(I think) gameplay video they do a fire+Thunder spell it looked amazing like bursts of fire and lightning everywhere.

Also keep in mind the weather affects your magic as well.

Anyone have a translation for the options in the game to make sure I turn on the pro enhancements?

Anyone?

I don't want to play this without knowing the pro enhancements are on.

In order of selection. I've bolded and numbered the options to make it easier to navigate in game.

Start/Options Button menu:

1) Resume game
2) Save
3) Load
4) Options
5) Tutorials
6) Back to Title

From within the Options (settings) screen:

1) Language settings (grey/inaccessible)
2) Difficulty (grey/inaccessible)
3) Battle mode selection (grey/inaccessible)
4) Audio settings
5) Subtitle settings (on/off only, option to adjust for cinematic and in-game subtitles)
6) Brightness settings
7) Control/button options (can select default [A], or Duscae controls).
8) Camera settings (can invert, adjust sensitivity, and change battle camera distance--options are near, medium, and far, respectively).
9) Map settings
10) Controller vibration on/off
11) Control/button help on/off
12) HUD on/off
13) ST gauge display
14) Tips on/off
15) HDR settings
16) Image Quality settings
(top option is high resolution quality, second option is "lightweight", bottom is "reset to default settings")

1) It's irrelevant to you maybe, I would also be interested in knowing.

Clearly not just me or it would already be around.

2) The game went gold weeks ago. It's highly probable this demo is finished code or close to it.

No demo has final code before a game was released, gold or not, moreover we live in an era where day one patch are mandatory to get the best conditions to play, do you really want me to point out the many drastic changes that come with day one patches ?

3) Now that's irrelevant.

Yeah except it's not. I was stating a fact, pointing out why some people might not have rushed to make that analysis. See you can dislike it or disagree, but this is literally relevant to the discussion... It's a lot of time and resources, since they will have to start over in literally two weeks.

4) Welcome to every framerate comparison ever.

Xbox one, slim, ps4, ps4pro low, ps4pro high. That's 5 versions for a massive demo that has the full game coming out imminently.

I guess people are only gonna make these tests if they don't have anything else important, it's a question of priority.

But I wish you the best !

the heck's that mountain on the left doing

You really wonder how the hell stuff like that mountain suddenly being there comes from. Is it a draw distance thing that improved or if one of the devs was like

'Heck, am bored! gunna add a whole new mountain teheehehe'

What's the item you get from playing Justice Monsters V?

I didn't understand the mechanics but was able to play it until I hit the 500k score mark.

But it certainly is a good wat to pass up time.
