All-New Press Previews of Final Fantasy XV's First 5 Chapters

Fuck me four ways, these shots and off-screen footage has my hype to ridiculous levels. Still can't believe it, later this month... IT ARRIVES!

Source.

Also a bit of off-screen combat against the big snake from PGW a few weeks ago with someone who knows how to play. Don't know if it has been posted here yet.

Midgarsormr's special attacks are awesome, particularly the coil/constrict attack.

Also, my PS4 seems to be bricking (auto turns off aft about ten minutes and seems extra hot). Maybe this is a sign I should get a Pro?

Do it.

I get mines on thu.. I've been without a PS4 since sept.

I'm not ready. I cancelled my UCE (probably getting a LE OST set) so I'm trying to get the standard game cheap.

This is so out of character IMO-
It's more like Omen Noctis tbh.

Have you seen the one of Aranea slamming Noctis' face into the ground?

With her knee?

From the sky?

Psychopathic mass-murderer Noctis harnessing his burning anger.

Trophy Unlocked : ["Ludonarrative Dissonance"]

Midgarsormr's special attacks are awesome, particularly the coil/constrict attack.

Showcasing again how amazing this game's animations are.

I'm pretty sure it is (since nothing shown lately has actually been removed from the game), but I hope the water mesh deformation stays in. I'm guessing it's limited to specific bodies of water, but it was awesome watching the water ripple as Midgardsormr swims

Edit:

FUCK why is that offscreen footage so vibrant? It looks amazing, is it just because the offscreen is masking the quality?

Damn... even if it ends up not looking quite as good without Pro or something that's still some raw beauty.

Honestly...looking at these gameplay videos now, at this point im starting to wonder if we've even ever seen pro footage. It's entirely possible the pro footage shown was just current build we're seeing now bumped up to 4k.

When the clips of the "Pro" footage dropped, the best we'd seen of the game was the gamescom build.

If, around that time, you had seen this footage, people would have sworn up and down it was PC dev or Pro footage, I never would have guessed it was PS4 Base.

This game's engine really comes to life at night. The lighting is amazing.

The best part of Platinum demo to me was playing at night during the rain...any source of light (fire) just makes the whole scene look amazing, even with PD's horrible IQ.

My most fondest memory while waiting for this was when the 2011 trailer was released. I was at school when I got on GAF (was still a lurker) and saw Kagari's thread. I couldn't watch the video but there was a bunch of screenshots and I was blown away.

I'm seriously considering it, but going to try some random DIY fixes first...

Agreed, by far the best looking thing in PD was fighting Iron Giant in the dark in the rain.

I seems like a large portion of the game will end up taking place at night, so I'm glad they seem to have made nighttime looking good a priority.

I hope all of this graphical work isn't just FFXV engine specific, and that they can take it forward into upcoming games without reinventing the whole thing. I can't wait until we see what they have cooking for XVI.

I recall one of the alleged leakers saying they have absolutely nothing for XVI, but, well, obviously that's a grain-of-salt scenario.

That seems hard to believe, you would think they would have something in the works, even if it's still in the early stages.

Looks boring
:p

Joking aside that was really good. The player knew what he was doing and that made the fight quite fast and intense.

I love the color pattern on the car. Especially in the first picture. Man, I'm gonna customize the hell out of that

Usually not the one to nitpick stuff like this, but I'm a bit bummed that the animations in the final build's Niflheim infiltration sequence look really off compared to the stuff we got at the end of January this year. Looks buggy where the camera shifts unnecessarily along with the motion blur being completely absent. It really misses the look and smoothness of the stealth gameplay from when we first saw it.

Just compare the animations with the final build and the gameplay video from January. The actual level itself is probably equally as elaborate, but we can't tell from the short video.

Sound design also sucks here. Why does Noctis stealthily tip-toeing sound so loud? Why do the Magitek Troops sound that loud when they're killed when the whole point is to remain silent?

I get that one is PC and one is console. However, these feel like problems independent of that (well, outside the sick motion blur from the PC build).

You better stop right there my friend, for your own sake. XD I was snapped at in other threads for suggestion the same stuff some time ago.

Many celebrate the Pro as the only savior of this game (apart from Raitoningu joining it), so please show some damn respect. ;)

XVI is being worked on.

I find it hard to believe that they don't at least have a skeleton crew coming up with concepts and concept footage at the very least.

Also, on another note, that footage above with Noctis fighting the griffin was awesome. It looks like, because of the nature of the system, there are going to be a lot of unique situations created mid-combat that will lead to some pretty awesome experiences.

Are we sure this isn't Pro build or at least PS4 with HDR? It looks really good.

Yes, we are sure. There was no Pro footage of FFXV showcased on Paris Game Week. We haven't seen any real time gameplay of the Pro version so far. According to Tabata the Pro version was/is not finalized yet.

Some examples:

- The music in Hammerhead changing from a laid back acoustic feel to a rock feel when you enter buildings
- The music in Lestallum changing from to have trumpets when you enter certain areas like the market
- Fights like Titan jumping around within the track (Apocalypsis Noctis) depending on the combat situation, e.g. the ending is always in sync with the end of the fight.
Another example is the Chocobo theme when idle/walking or running:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THuqK1gxQS0&t=3m56s

I wonder if the music like for example chapter 0 will be the same. Maybe it's built up in parts like the Titan battle. (Walking towards enemy, fighting against enemy while sitting in chair, enemy getting from its chair, enemy turning super saiyan etc etc). This would work great for the final boss battle as well.

Oooohhhhh!
I hope we start getting details and translations soon.

My Japanese is very beginner level. There doesn't seem to be much new information. It's really a glorified magazine :p With better paper. Doesn't seem like there's anything new beyond what has been said, after flipping through the pages.

I think this is the same book that is sold by EB Australia and given out as a preorder bonus in some European countries.

not to be a negative nelly, but there are 3 things in recent footage that worry me (especially for late game).

  1. Shadows on bushes seems very weird when running on chocobo.

Shadow loading looks VERY weird and pops in real close to the chocobo when they are running through Duscae. Its slightly distracting, which is a shame :(
  2. A lot of this footage is "late game" in terms of leveling and even showing "epilogue" stuff, so... Why is the map STILL only the areas from chapters 1-5?

No seriously? Is the chapter 1-5 area THE open world? that doesn't seem right.
  3. Animation issues (cutscenes and some non-cutscenes)

This is mostly to do with transitional cutscenes. Stuff like an airship moving into a scene or some other stuff when talking to important NPCs (look at the end of chapter 2 w/ loqi's battle). Its awkward and reminds me a bit too much of cutscenes created by people in lbp2... For a AAA release that ain't right.

The only other issue I have is with the infiltration footage. The animation is the same for the stealth kills, but its SO much more choppy. Camera flickering, and noct takes a LONG time to warp into the kill (almost like its trying to load the kill in). Kinda disappointing.

But I really don't wanna be negative. I'm still really hyped, but yeah :/

Also: I think the "ring of the luci" IS only gonna be death. But we'll have more rings or other objects. We know now there are 2 important rings: The ring of the luci, and the
ring of light
so maybe that's how its gonna go :)

Not gonna go into everything thing you're bringing up, but how much have other previews for big games shown prerelease? Honestly asking as I didn't really follow things like DA: I or Witcher 3 as close as this game. Sure, there always the chance of the parts no one played sucking, because we don't know if they're good as no one has played them.

Second thing, "Warp decoy". In a lot of the 15 hour previews the warp strikes do not look the same as what those higher level fights shown in PGW, so it may possibly be that skill or the "slow" warping doesn't look to be in the preview build. Or maybe I just can't tell the difference. It also may just depend on the weapon.

Edit: after watching vids over, it seems like it most likely the weapon

Why is the map STILL only the areas from chapters 1-5?

Unfortunately I really think this is the case. The only open area is going to be the first mass of land and the rest linear and shit. I'm so scared this game development might ve been rushed to the level that first part is pic and second super underwhelming.

Because that's already a third of the game and they want to keep surprises, would be my first and only guess.

We've seen glimpses of other areas anyway.

All the gameplay footage we are seeing is footage from a preview build Square Enix sent out to journalists or used as demos on conventions. The preview build ends after athe 5th chapter.
The first 5 chapters play in the Kindom of Lucis with it's areas Leide, Duscae and Cleigne. It is after chapter 5 that you leave the kingdom, also referred to as a continent, for the city Altissia, which is situated on another continent. That is the 1/3 mark of the game. So there are lots of regions we don't know of yet and all info we got so far suggests that there is at least one more open-world continent the size of Lucis before the more linear part begins in the latter 1/3 of the game.

Well for one, Tabata said that Duscae (the region not the demo) is only 10% of the entire map

Two, that clay model that has been pretty accurate so far. Only looks like it's been moved around. Probably to accommodate the airship.

Three, we know of 2 other major cities like Tenebrea and Niflheim. There must be areas surrounding it.

Four, the beginner map opens entirely by chapter 5. It's possible that another 5 chapters take place entirely there and then the last 5 in the linear areas (which I don't think are actual linear areas but
post time skip so of course it would be linear

Five, we just got concept art of another continent name Terravere or something like that.
