Would you prefer they go back to padding them with tedious non-Sonic bullshit like they used to?

They shouldn't have to pad the games out with tedious non-Sonic bullshit to make games longer. I just remember finishing Colors and Generations wanting more of what I played. It's especially sad with Generations. They make these big, beautiful levels that you just blast through at lightspeed.

Maybe I don't think there's enough stages. I'm not asking for Sonic Unleashed's "whoops you need 50 Moon Medals to progress," but I'd like to think they're competent enough to make the games a bit longer while maintaining the fun.

All the little references are crazy to me. There was this little Uppercut end of the level celebration Sonic did in the early Sonic 1 prototypes, they removed it cuz IDK maybe they thought it was too Mario, so he just does the pose. They actually added something like that back in, but with Sonic signature finger pointing.

The level design looks better than Sonic CD, at least to my eyes. I didn't grow up with CD and always thought it was the odd one out, it played almost like a fan game in places. There's a bit of that in Sonic Mania but overall it looks pretty good. Hopefully there is more new material than old.

I agree, CD's level design is a fucking mess.

Yooo... I need this game yesterday.

Watched those off-screen videos and the level design looked amazing. It's like they're big playgrounds for Sonic to run around in.

Also, the music for Studiopolis is RIDICULOUS. That part where it goes "light camera action!" and then turns into this 32-bit era piano solo is just too good.

It's clear most people here haven't played the Taxman ports if they're questioning the level design too, here's the hidden content over the years in their port...

Desert Dazzle (Unfinished)

Hidden Palace Zone

Egg Gaunlet Zone

As for questioning the new art and if it'll fit, well, Tails sprites were completely new in Sonic CD:

And don't forget the hidden special stages:

Give those videos a watch before questioning if these are the right people to be handling a new classic sonic game.

Its a total bummer they already used the Sonic 4 name for some trashy game.

Will keep a eye on this but its sega & sonic so wont get my hopes up. There is always a big stinking catch.

Stop releasing games that can work perfectly fine on PS3/XB360.

I am one of those guys that still games last gem cuz there's so many games that came out on PS3 worth playing. I would like to see more consistent experiences on PS4 where you are actually utilizing the power of the system you are paying for. Games like Sonic Mania are the reasons why it took so long for us to jump to this generation.

People make the games they want to make. Not every game has to use 100% of the systems power.

If you want that, try the Project Sonic 2017 thread instead.

I don't even know where to begin with this shit lmao

Yeah you're right. They should just make a Sega CD version, that has all the power they need. Putting it on anything else would be a waste imho

Megaman 9/10 could of been ported to the NES (in fact it sit could be to the mini) that's the point.

Who is "us"? I got my PS4, I dunno about you, fam.

Yoooooo a sonic game I'm actually hyped for.

All those trash games over the years since the trilogy and we're finally getting a worthy successor to 3 and knuckles?

Took their time but this is amazing anyway.

Ill be there day 1. Haven't said that about a sonic game since sonic and knuckles.

Tell us about how terrible remasters are too.

IIRC, Mega Man 9 & 10 actually employ a few things that would be impossible to pull off on an NES as is (I recall reading an article on this somewhere; Jewel Man's swinging platforms were cited as an example of something that wouldn't fly on NES). They'd have to re-do or completely ax certain portions of the game.

I cried when sonic popped up in the symbol, I can't believe that is finally happening :)

And wow, that music... Anyone got a link?

ok I expect these dudes to show up in the background of a level now

latest

So GHZ looks to diverge pretty wildly from the original layout after the S-tube -> sky-rings bit. The boss we've seen is also for act one, it looks like? I'm guessing it's S3&K style where act 1 has a mini-boss and act 2 has a full boss?

They said every act is supposed to have a unique boss, like S3&K.

Gamexplain with 10 minutes of gameplay, just uploaded apparently:

https://youtu.be/u1nQxH3kugg

When it got to what was supposed to be the end of Act 1 and then continued, and he bounced up to a higher part of the stage, I cracked a smile. This is really getting me excited

Edit: Studiopolis looks incredible. The one thing I was worried about for this game was the level design but I'm impressed by what I've seen here. Sonic is back babyyyy

I also agree that CD has questionable design

Has it been revealed how they're going to implement the classic stages? I'm hoping that they're essentially bonus stages and that they don't replace potential new levels with rehashed stages. New level design or not, things like that should be delegated to extra content.

Also, Studiopolis looks SO GOOD

Studiopolis looks a bit garish to me, level design wise it seems fine, just no restraint with the colour palette at all, I just hope the other zones aren't as bad. Not saying they can't be colourful just use the colours better.

Overall I'm cautiously optimistic. My biggest fear being that it comes across being too fan gamey, because that's essentially what it is. Tbh it looks fairly solid to the point where it's going to be fairly nitpicky things that will determine how authentic it feels as a whole.

What could they do to avoid making this look like a fan game?
