Crashlands [OT] Rated T, for too much sass (PC/iOS/Android)

If you like this game, their other games Quadropus Rampage and Towelfight 2 are worth checking out. Same sense of humor, the former is a roguelike brawler, the latter a bullet-hell arpg

I was having fun with it on my iPhone 6+, but gave up on the weird touch controls and bought it on Steam. Much better.

Still, it's a really great game. Feels like Don't Starve, but with fun where the self-inflicted torture used to be.

Exactly how I feel. I've tried getting into DS a couple of times but it was mostly frustrating, not fun.

Crashlands feels very similar but actually fun.

I dont think there is, which is the main reason stopping me from buying it. Would of been nice to have gamepad support on android (shield tv) too.

Ah, I'll wait on the PC version till it does in that case (hopefully it's coming) and just play on the iPad for now.

If this is any good my wife will hate bedtimes.

The touch controls work fairly well, at least I think they are better than those god awful virtual stick controls that blight far too many mobile games.

Combat can be a bit tricky, but you just need to learn the attacks and get into a rhythm.

Out of curiosity, how does the cross platform saving work in this game? Do I make a sort of "Crashlands Account"? Is it a Steam thing (can Steam even do that on iOS)?

Where have the last 2 hours of my life gone?

Wtf, this game. I did not expect this. Wow.

You make an account in the game and it gives you 3 save files to sync across all platforms.

For those of you on PC, I spent the first 7 hours walking around by constantly clicking, only now did I just figure out you can hold your mouse button down and walk around. Would've been real nice for them to tell us that. It also helps with dodging as well

Question about the Android version.
Does this have any requirement for an Internet connection bullshit? So the game won't launch if you don't have an Internet connection on your phone? (Ie Plane/Train/etc)

i know you specifically mentioned Android but the iOS version absolutely does not and i can't imagine why it would on the Android version

It's 3am. I need to sleep... What is this game doing to me?

I can't believe GAF is sleeping on this game. Everyone buy it, it's amazing.

I hope it gets a release on the PS4 and Xbone at some point in the future. More people need to play this.

GAF will eventually catch up to it once it gets some attention on an YouTuber's channel or shows up on consoles.

People around these parts still have way too much prejudice towards mobile gaming.

So I've finally come to the boss in the labyrinth and I'm constantly dieing within a minute. To those who beat him, what weapons and armor did you have?

I believe it needs to connect to the servers to get campaign info on first install but after that no connection is required at all

The games on PC too, so even if the "mobile game prejudice" existed (which I only see against games that exploit IAPs, not premium ones like this) I don't think that's the main reason why it's not getting a 50 page thread after a week. This game didn't really get much pre-release buzz, except for occasionally posts I'd see on the iOS gaming community thread, and I'm personally so busy finishing all the stuff I got over the holidays to think about getting another game to throw on my pile, even if it is as good as Crashlands. (plus I've almost got $5 on my Google Rewards app so I can get it for free soon!).

The original Don't Starve thread when it came out on PC only had like 7 pages in its lifetime. It only got a more lively thread when it came out for free on PS+.

It's not a prejudice against mobile gaming for me, but more against the genre which I typically don't enjoy. I am very curious though and enjoy reading impressions here until I see something that sends me over the edge...

You don't like open world action RPGs? Cause I'm betting Crashlands is not what you think it is.

I just bought it.....;)

Let's see what it's all about....

Edit: I downloaded it to my iPad, I was going to download it on my iPod is well. Can I upload my save to the cloud and play on both?

One thing I find really refreshing is, there is no daily login bonus bullshit that you get with too many mobile games, however, one thing that does slightly worry me is the crafting timer, what purpose does this serve, they are normally there to facilitate the use of microtransactions to speed things up.

You have to create an account from within the game first, then you can move your save file into the cloud.

This is how these type of games always worked. Crafting takes time.

Builds up the hype and makes you look forward to return to the game and make some planning.

When adjusted properly with the rest of gameplay mechanics it can be a nice thing.

Haven't played this game yet but looks like this is timers done right.

I'm at the third continent now. Still loving the game, but my impressions have diminished a bit.

The first 5 hours of the game are sublime. New discoveries around every corner.

Unfortunately, going through the second continent, the pattern becomes quite obvious and the lack of depth hurts the game a bit. The crafting system is never used to its full advantage. The most disappointing thing is farming for an hour for a legendary weapon, only to have it outclassed in 30 minutes once you reach the next crafting tier.

I'm at nearly 20 hours now. This is quite a long game. To be fair, this is my breaking point for most games. It's hard to hold my interest past 15-20 hours.

I had the same problem. Strongly recommend grinding or doing some additional quests if you're having that problem. I had all the fish scale armor and swords and finally beat him

That boss is easy if you're patient and just let your pet dish out the damage. Just avoid his attacks, get in the occasional hit, and your pet will do the rest.

I'm loving the game so far but have a few gripes...

Is there anyway to change the item I am tracking WITHOUT going back to home base?

Also, is there a way to place a way point from the Quests menu?

It is entirely possible I simply missed how to do these things....

Thanks, grinded for fish scale armor and was finally tough enough to kill him. Onto the next boss!

im agreeing with all of this. about 10 hours between iOS and steam using the clound sync. amazing feature by the way.

Just bought this for Android. Runs well on first gen Moto G and I'm loving it so far, with the music being particularly soothing and great.

I've never played Don't Starve and Terraria never really did it for me, so this is like my introduction to these types of games.

Glad I made the purchase so far.

Couple questions:

  • If I usually find crafting systems annoying, would I like this game?
  • I'm thinking about getting this game specifically for my (Android, 5.5") phone. Would I be way better off getting it for my (10") iPad?

Personally this game isn't like any "crafting" game i've played. Inventory management is simple. I come from terraria and the inventory management is awful. I play on iphone 5c and that's 4 inches compared to 5.5 and it is amazing. Hopefully I helped.

The best thing for me is the fact that I don't have to micro manage my inventory. No limitations, not weights, fantastic.

I feel the exact same way. The first area of the game, I was really digging it. Then I got to the second area and I lost all motivation to continue. There's a really cool game in here that just wasn't fully fleshed out. It's a little too simplistic whereas Don't Starve was a little too overly involved.

Such an awesome game.

One of my good friends here in St. Louis was at their studio to film some type of special documentary on them. Then I ended up getting lots of time with the game early, because he was beta testing it while I was over hanging out.

Such a fantastic game, and even more fantastic people.
