Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

I'm thinking about moving a sizable amount of money from my french bank account to my canadian bank account. I've been waiting for the canadian dollar to plunge as low as possible before making the move so I don't know if I should wait a few months or do it right now (1 euro = 1.60 CAD).

Do you think it will hit 0.60 by the end of the year ?

I feel confident that they will and I'm pretty sure that I saw the hhd bundle in store.

Nintendo.com lists GameStop as one of the two places that you can buy it from, with Best Buy being the other.

I'm not 100% sure I will end up buying one, but wouldn't mind pre-ordering one just in case. It is a lot of money, and more than I make in a month.

So BLOPS 3 is showing as $55 on EB's site. Thats a hell of a deal - translates to $38 USD. And its not showing as being on sale, either. Check Gamestop's site and its $60 there.

I think so. There's a forecast that the CAD will fall to 59 cents vs USD by the end of the year. Seeing that the Euro is at 63 cents. Yeah, it seems possible.

but I don't want that to happen

Black Ops III + 1 month of Game Access for $39.99. Looks like it's only for the Xbox One version and the deal expires at midnight (EST). I've never bought anything from them, but I've used their rental service and thought it was great.

You know, I just recently found out about GameAccess and once I heard they were basically Canadian GameFly I was about ready to try them out. Then I looked them up and found these(1) two(2) reddit posts and got scared off. Does anyone here have any actual experience with using their service?

I'm in Vancouver and while the service technically worked, the shipping times were so slow that it was just a pain in my ass. And most games are gone for a long time unless you had them reserved, which was also a pain in my ass.

I didn't get nearly enough value out of it to keep going.

Used it for years and years (like, 5 or so?) with absolutely no issues whatsoever, and only stopped because my work life got too busy to justify the two game plan I had. For what it's worth, I had a good experience with them and enjoyed it. Had all of one issue with a game getting lost in the mail once and a simple phone call had that sorted in a few minutes. Turn around time in the mail was heavily dependent on weather, and suffered a bit in winter, but otherwise was pretty painless.

What's your incentive for doing so? I've been using my french account since I got here and didn't really felt the need to have a canadian bank account.

The exchange from EUR to CAD hasn't been as drastic since the EUR has been having issues too...

1 EUR = 1.3679 CAD in July 2013.

I think they only have one distribution centre, which is in Quebec, so it's probably only worth it if you live in Eastern Canada. And if you want to rent new releases, you'll need pay $3 or $4 more per month to be able to reserve a game or else you'll be waiting a while. I was happy with the service when I used it though.

Anybody knows if there ever was (or is) a deal on WRC 5 PS4?

I'd buy that. Or if you wanna sell yours... (I already posted in the buy sell trade thread).

Noticed the "sold and shipped from Best Buy".

Are they planning on using third party sellers?

Best Buy in the US already does this, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to see the Canadian one do it too.

Either that, or the parent company just decided to unify the two ecommerce platforms because you don't really need two different shitty website platforms to serve the U.S. and Canada when just one shitty platform will work for both.

as much as i love free games, I already have it for PC, plus I don't want to really put my CC info just to get a free game. I try to usually pay through prepaid cards if I want something through them. Hacking has made me too paranoid now, especially after what happened with steam. Thanks for the link though. I'm sure there's a bunch of people who haven't played the game yet.

Apparently it's mediocre as a game but decent as a FF fanservice title that doubles as a spiritual successor to Crystal Chronicles

so buyer beware :P

Mhmmm.... my interested suddenly plummeted since I never played CC, probably gonna save it for SMT IF Final then.

I'm also not too sure about Bravely Second.... Bravely Default dropped hard on me after chapter 5

Nice, Amazon shipped Paper Jam. :D

I've been lucky with them, almost all my orders have been shipped the day before release. Sometimes it still arrives late but at that point I blame CP.

Dumb question: is there any way to grab white or black n3DS cover plates? I got the Pokemon n3DS bundle thing but I don't want the Pokemon plates, I'd rather have solid black or white. I guess I'll have to do a trade and/or buy used ones from someone in AUS or JP who has the original plates that came with the vanilla n3DS consoles?
