iOS Gaming January 2016 | Should old applications be forgot?

Maybe require a list of at least 5 games next year or something? I'm more interested in hearing from people who have a general idea of what's going on with the platform and can form an opinion of value, rather than "here's 2 games I played".

I guess in that case I should just stick to this thread...haha.

I mentioned something like this earlier. The scope of games and players is very vast, as evidenced by the Fallout and Final Fantasy games being nominated ('hardcore' gamers do love their F2P).

Yeah, there were quite a few posts by people who don't sound like they are "mobile gamers" but just have played a few games. That isn't really a fair assessment of what truly exists in mobile gaming to be counted as GoTY votes.

It'd be like a film critic who only saw two movies all year to give what they thought were the best of the year.

I think the real issue is that on GAF console gamers still outweigh mobile gamers. So there's not going to be as many votes.

A game is a game. I think they should all be lumped together.

I'm liking the line puzzler Little Broken Robots so far. It's in the same vein as Flow Free, but instead of connecting gates you're given a specific length for each line and must get them to work together, filling out the play area. Seems like it's going to be a much more difficult game in comparison. Here's the first beginner's level I just solved out, for example:

I started playing this. Seems good so far. The Advance levels are tough and the F2P stuff doesn't seem awful yet. Healthy amount of levels, too.

The nice thing is there's a $2.99 unlock if you want to bypass the F2P mechanics. Haven't felt the urge yet, though.

Nice warm-up for The Witness next week, haha.

That's good to hear. I'm fine with that as long as it's reasonably priced. $3 is cool for a game with this much polish.

I bought an iPhone 6S. I'm loving it. Perfect size.

It's incredible how many games will scale up and look better on more powerful hardware too. I wasn't expecting that. Oceanhorn looks stunning.

Now just waiting for the feature presentation...

....Crashlands, which I presume will be an 11 EST release.

somebody sell me on Crashlands. I've watched the trailer, it looks nice, but gameplay looks like it's wandering around killing stuff and building weapons + houses.

Think Don't Starve, but not as brutally hard, sci-fi, more arcade-y, and with the humor you'd expect from Butterscotch Shenanigans. It has a lot of little touches that help alleviate some of the frustrations of the genre, like a limitless inventory and being able to teleport back to your base from anywhere on the map

That last one definitely helps to promote exploration when you don't have to trudge back home

Hopefully I can in a few hours. But More_Badass has played it so maybe he can give some more imps.

I'd also like to know how the new Dungelot is. I liked the first one. Didn't even bother with the second after most trashed it due to being a buggy mess and it's bad F2P implementation.

This one looks quite a bit different, possibly in a good way.

Edit: MB already was in the case!

It has begun!

Now that Horizon Chase is free to unlock what happens with those that purchased it before?

I just gave it a download from my purchased list and the game seems like it's the same. Ran the first five races and didn't hit any paywalls.

Sold. Y'all are far too good at selling me on games.

Butterscotch supported all their games for years, adding new content, overhauling controls, and such, so I bet Crashlands will be a game that keeps on giving for a while

Really loving Crashlands so far. I typically am not into crafting / survival type games, but this is an utter joy to play. It streamlines a lot of the monotaneous parts of the genre, even with simple things like auto equipping the tools you need, easy tracking of resources, teleportation, etc. The story and trademark Butterscotch Shenanigans humor and overall whimsical sci-fi atmosphere just is fantastic.

So Crashlands is pretty slick, though I might end up regretting starting out on the second-hardest difficulty setting. Watching a giant bug splat you repeatedly is a good wake-up call, I guess. I should probably build this Hydrablade I got.

Exploding Kittens is already out, but strangely is pass and play only at the moment. I understand that it's an adaption of a card game, but no single player or online kills it for me (online is apparently coming though).

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/exploding-kittens-official/id1040227414?ls=1&mt=8

Maybe due to that lack of content, it's $1.99 with IAPs, but a launch sale has all IAPs free.

It says "Play with 2 to 5 players across multiple phones" so that's only local multiplayer with multiple iOS devices no? I don't see it mentioned that it supports pass and play (and with the way the game works it wouldn't be possible).

Yeah, was just coming here to edit my post after realizing it isn't pass and play. But it is local, Bluetooth only at the moment.

They probably should put Bluetooth in the description so people don't assume it's online and not have anyone to play with.

Not saying it's a bad deal. Just not for me in its current form.

This was just posted on the official TA forum by Galactic Keep awesome dev....I'll leave it here without comment.

FUCKING AMAZING, CAN'T WAIT

The next module will be big. It's pretty much Galactic Keep 2.0. There'll be new playable characters (a new playable species), several game-changing new mechanics and a ton of new weapons and specials. The next module will have a very story-driven path. There will be large areas to explore but we're trying to keep the story in this module a bit more focused. We'd like the choices you make to have a greater impact on the overall story. We're also trying to develop items and specials that will allow characters to find multiple solutions problems and that will create new ways to play the game. More info (and maybe images) soon.

I just hope they developed a better way of archiving the story and events for later checking. I did love Galactic Keep but found the plot very overwhelming and difficult to keep track of. If I ever found myself unable to play for a few days I ended up being super lost whenever I went back to it which ultimately stopped me from finishing the module.

If I deleted Galatic Keep will my progress carry on or am I out of luck?

Did you use the iCloud save?
I had no problem resintalling and playing a plus playthrough all over again.

BTW...I THINK (but I'm not sure) you will use your fav character in the new module...but I'm not sure with all those temporal timelines and such.

It's not a super long game, especially if you played it before...the ending (and the final part tory tidbits) is great imho so my suggestion is to complete it :)

If I hear from the dev I'll pass your input tough...maybe a quest log recap could be useful, especially if they are adding a lot story-wise.

EDIT: I've passed your suggestion to the dev.

Heh, it's long if you are not good at it.

If you want and you are willing to play till the end but do not remember where you are, have some problems with some enemies etc...feel free to PM me!
It's been a while but I completed the game over 8 times so I might remember the game well :)

I do appreciate the thought, but to be honest I'm not really wanting to go back to GK. It isn't a particular monster on that game that halted me but rather the constant dead and rebirth cycle grind of my terrible luck combined with just how brutal that game can be. Thank you very much for the offer though.
