Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

For the first time ever I came home to find out that my amazon package had been dropped at my door. The delivery guy thought it was okay to just leave it there unattended where anyone could have grabbed it. Usually they drop it at the nearest drop site and they leave a note.

I called Amazon and all they said was " well we're going to forward your comments to the company so it doesn't happen again ". Hmm that's it ? Apparently they've been using a new carrier instead of UPS/ Canada Post but I couldn't understand the name. It sounded like " Telcom " or something like that.

Anyway there was like 500$ worth of stuff in there and I need the stuff for this weekend (paid extra to get it delivered in one day even though I have prime) so I would have lost it if it had been stolen. But the guy was like " Eh whatever we would have refunded you so no big deal ". Right ...

I way prefer money over points. It was annoying having to convert the points to money in my head when trying to figure out if something was worth buying or not.

It's the first time I've seen it on sale from a major retailer since I bought two years worth on boxing day two years ago. I don't doubt I missed a couple sales here and there but I do check RFD and here almost daily so it wasn't from a lack of trying on my part.

I'm weird. I loved points. You knew games were going to be 400, 800, 1200 or 1400 points, not $2.99, $9.99, $12.99, etc.

I didn't mind the cards either. I've never had a credit card.

Got my Staples codes! I'm a proud PS Plus member until 2018!

Inversely, my XBL Gold ran out in November and I didn't even notice, and have no intention of resubbing.

Placed my order half an hour ago. just checked and the codes came in ten minutes later. I guess the second time around goes much faster than the first!

What is the longest someone has waited for their PSN codes? I placed my order over an hour ago, still nothing.

I placed mine earlier this afternoon and still don't have them. It says on the page that the codes generally come within 24 hrs, so if I don't have them tomorrow afternoon, I'll contact them and see what's up. I'm thinking mine might take longer due to checking out as a guest with Visa Checkout.

The last time I did this, the codes didn't arrive for about a day. In the interim, I got a phone call from Staples asking to confirm my mailing address for the digital codes. They were all "yeah I don't really know why we need your mailing address but you know whatever!" So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

One time a dude in a Honda came up to my house. no idea who he was. he proceeded to drop something on the front door and leave without knocking or anything. I went and opened the door and looked at the package. It was something from amazon that one of my family members ordered. It was probably that "telcom" delivery service you mentioned.

Could be Dynamex too. I had the lady from there call me on her cell asking me to meet me in the lobby, as she was two blocks away. It was bizarre and unprofessional, I wish Amazon would stop using them.

If you're buying the PSN $50 codes with intentions to actually use them towards PS+ subscription renewals you may just want to hold off until the next time they offer a "spend $100 get $15 back" deal or something. No reason to do it now unless your sub is up.

True. I think people's worry is the off chance that Sony raises the rate in Canada due to the dollar before then.

There's really no logic as to what that hasn't changed at all while games have, I fear the day Sony notices.

Do the codes just automatically get sent to the email address of the Staples account you ordered with? It didn't ask for an email to send the codes to at any point, while it did when I bought from the codes2go platform on other sites before.

It will happen and when it does hopefully we get at least some notice.

I remember there was like a 40% PS+ price increase in South Africa and they had less than 24 hours notice. Ice cold on Sony's part and I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled that here.

If you plan on waiting for a $15 back deal then make sure you are in the loop daily otherwise you could get fucked.

Yeah, they'll go to that account.

Yeah I used to be a huge fan of Amazon but their delivery service and customer service are getting worse and worse.

Got my PSN $50 codes from Staples! It took 2.5 hours to get here. I ordered them at 11:24AM PST and got them at 2:06 PM PST.

I got PS+ until the end of the year. Wondering if I should buy PS+ or save it to buy games later.

Crowd sourcing deliveries. The future.

Are you guys getting these PS+ subs for free or what?
$100 of PSN credit for $80 with a coupon from Staples.

Ah ok so first go here and get your code...

http://smartcanucks.ca/staples-canada-coupon-save-20-when-you-spend-100-online-or-in-store/

Buy 2 $50 network cards to avoid the filler...

http://www.staples.ca/en/PlayStatio...-10&siteID=je6NUbpObpQ-l9XTDJoDD5YiNR4TAi5d2Q

Ignore the shipping and taxes that shows up (even after the purchase has been completed).

Then go to the PS store and buy your yearly subscriptions to PSN.

Got it! Now are they actually mailing these cards out or are they sending out codes to redeem them?

EDIT: Added the link to the download codes instead of the snail mail card.

They tried to offer that to me also, but they were going to pay the difference. But the item they had linked to was from a third party seller that wouldn't ship to Canada.
Seems to me like I'm screwed. I got sent an email that there was nothing they could do about matching a lightning deal.

Enjoy your Bayo2!

I bought a racing wheel off shop.ca not long ago and the delivery guy was using a U-Haul van and had no uniform or anything lol. Loomis Express was the shipping company. It came on time and all that so it wasn't bad but I thought it was funny.

I'll take cheaper prices with a bit of confusion any day of the week.
Since 2005 I can count on one hand how many times I effectively paid full price for anything on XBL. Now we're lucky if we get 'money' sales 1-2 times a year.

Whoever voted to get rid of points needs to have their head examined

Oh my god. My boyfriend just bought a\ shower curtain at Giant Tiger in generic packaging because it looked red and he liked the colour. We just opened the package and it's a giant confederate flag. WTF. Why would they even sell this?

This is amazing!

Tell the press. This sort of thing shouldn't happen without someone catching hell.

"When these proud patriots bought a shower curtain at Giant Tiger, you'll never BELIEVE what they got!"

Just got this email.

Due to the recent PlayStation®Network interruption we are giving you a 1-DAY extension to your PlayStation®Plus membership. Please redeem the following voucher code by March 31, 2016, 11:59 PM PST:
Sweet, sweet 1-day extension.

I wonder if those codes work for people who aren't existing subscribers?

'cause it'd be handy for someone who just wants to take advantage of a temporary PS+ discount or something
