Helldivers coming to Steam December 7th, Pre-orders get Early Access

You care more for Sony's bottom line, than those who game in PCs?

Lol, sure. I very rarely play on PC, mainly on Playstation, so Sony's and SCE's well being means stronger Playstation and so on. You get the idea.

This is besides my point though, of it being a bad business idea by being a change in Sony's modus operandi.

This is PlayStation Mobile, Inc. They publish some app for iOS and Android and Helldivers will be the very first PlayStation published game on Steam.

Really a surprise for me, but my guess is Sony can help little games like this (and their developers) to gain some sales and notoriety.

However, Sony does not have symbiosis with the PC market like MS with Xbox <3 Windows 10, so I wouldn't expect any big PlayStation IP (Uncharted, GT, Bloodborne) on Steam.

But smaller games from external developers like Resogun, Alienation, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture... After all, why not ?

This is great news for Arrowhead here, and the perspective to go on Steam after the PS4 release can seduce even more studios to partner with PlayStation on a Sony IP.

Yep, I guess games like Everybody's gone to the rapture, the tomorrow children or Rime could come to PC too then, but not the games people are now going to portbegg for.

The more platforms a game is available on = the more people can enjoy it and support devs = higher chances of sequesl/studio staying in business

No one looses by non-exclusivity. No one.

Smaller titles like this for sure I could see coming to PC. Everybody's Gone to the Rapture for example.

First party games like Bloodborne, Uncharted and GT? Not a chance.

Sony's best interest is to make PlayStation people's device of choice. Platform exclusives are a part of that.

Because more exclusives is always better, plus every sale made on PSN is more profit for Sony than a steam sale.

And as I said, it sets a bad precedent, now people may wait before they buy a game "because maybe it will come to Steam sometime..."

Didn't realise I was talking to a Sony shareholder concerned with the profit of the company. My mistake!

That's first party. The ownership of the studio is irrelevant, it's the ownership of the game that matters.

Thank you.

I still don't get where this second party thing came from.

It's not a bad business idea. You're going in with a very limited and outdated point of view.

They're business, not your deity.

Ah here we go again with PC players asking for Bloodborne.

OMG published by SONY!!!! Bloodborne and all other PlayStation Exclusives must surely be next!

Dudes catching feelings over this is pretty funny.

Dat tag tho

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like

Well you can laugh all you want, that's what XBO owners did before accepting that any exclusive could come to PC. YOU SHALL FACE THE SAME FATE.

Ok, I'll see myself out. I'm the proud owner of PS4, XBO and Wii U. Was just j/k'ing, sorry.

It is definitely a first here, this is a Sony IP and the first PlayStation published game on Steam. This is nothing like Papo & Yo going to PC after the PS3 release, for example.

.

Weren't the Pixeljunk games also published by SCE? Those ended up on PC as well.

On PC these were probably not published by SCE, so SCE probably on did the distribution part on PSN. This was normal, especially for indie games. Compare Devil's Third Online coming to PC, but self-published by Valhalla.

This is different.

It's over, period. Sony lost their last ace, and that's the end of their PS4 hopes and dreams.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for PS4. Sony has nothing left, nothing they can reveal would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a PS4. Except if they want to play Uncharted 4. Which will also come to PC at some point.

The age of Sony is done.

Kind of understand the bad precedent part, it makes Playstation look weak and makes me as a person who has PC+PS4 question my PS4 purchase.
I mean I don't regret it at all, but I can understand if some people are going to have fears over this, personally I don't think Sony plans to "weaken" their Playstation brand by releasing bigger 1st party exclusives to PC but what do I know.
And yes, port begging is massive as it is and this just helps to fuel it.

What on earth is going on in this thread? Did I miss the big joke or something? Or are these posts all real...?

WHAT. I'm out.

What I dont understand is when does the line get crossed for port begging? Is this it?

Portbegging is, when you ask for a playstation game to come to pc or xbox.
"Begging" for a PC or Xbox game to release on playstation is perfectly fine tho. As usual.

See XCOM2 related threads for example.

Is this for real?

These posts are real and yes, people actually think this way.

On the topic of the game: It always looked good, especially since I loved Gauntlet as well (before Slayer Edition fucked it up). Wishlisted, and I'll get it once it comes out.

This makes no sense. Look at their biggest titles by the end of the year: 3rd party multiplats.
Console market is evolving toward more of an appealing ecosystem rather than exlcusives. Of course these still play a big role, but its becoming smaller and smaller and will come down all to your ecosystem preference.

Also, It doesnt mean Sony is going 3rd party at all. Just that exclusives developped by 3rd parties makes less and less sense, at least with PC and consoles.

The people who actually care about this are an extremely small amount of those who already own PS4's and are just looking to justify their purchase of the platform.

PS4 is successful not because of those people, but because of being the console with smart third party marketing deals and the right message amidst the blunders of it's competition.

I love all the concern about port begging coming from nearly 100 percent posters that can easily be qualified as currently shitposting.
