Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Whether it's a dumb name or not it doesn't automatically mean it's not a character just because it's dumb

Why can't Ice Rink be a nickname? I'm not saying it's good but I wouldn't just put it aside just because it means something silly in the language it comes from

It's the equivalent of saying the character Penguin from the Batman series is called "Iceberg Lounge" and not Penguin because he's on a poster advertising his nightclub with "Iceberg Lounge" next to a picture of his face.

That would make sense if the poster was in a Berlin stage, not London

Also why would an ice rink promote themselves with the picture of a frozen person?

I wouldn't be surprised if "Eisbahn" ends up being the name of the character. Doesn't japan have some weird love for german words?
It probably wouldn't sound so random to me if i wasn't german.

Anyway, i'll go with "He's going to be called Rachid".

Well there's a big triangle that says "Secret Delta the Movie" on the poster, so I'm more inclined to think it's a mission code name.

There is something unintelligible between the triangle and Eisbahn. Maybe it says "starring" and Eisbahn is a weird stage name.

When the series has like literally 20 shotos,...no.

I don't get why the other styles have to be limited to 2-3 people but shotos can fill up all the slots they want. That isn't fair.

you're complaining about fireball uppercut characters when street fighter essentially is fireball uppercut, the game?

Eisbahn is probably going to be either an unplayable boss that becomes DLC later or just a DLC character. Like I said earlier, the Ken Bogard leak pretty much shoots down any hope of Eisbahn being in the base roster. More so since, as some of you have mentioned, the name "Eisbahn" is German in origin, which doesn't line up with the countries that Ken Bogard mentioned.

I hadn't seen the triangle part. It looks like a few letters then 4 numbers, probably a for the movie.

It's probably nothing, yeah. I still mantain that Eisbahn could have been a character name lol

To be honest, the name Eisbahn really doesn't bother me. Yeah sure it sounds silly when you translate it, but a German cyromancer is incredibly cool to me. He could be called Chilly McFreeze for all I care and I'd still play the shit out of him. I find it odd that the name Eisbahn really bothers some people.

His name's probably not even Eisbahn anyway. Someone probably just made out the word 'Eisbahn' on the poster and just thought 'fuck it, that's probably what his name is'.

I'm going to wait for a character that Bogard predicted to be revealed before I take his words as the absolute truth. Until then I'm just gonna speculate.

Kind of funny how Arcsys made a new character for Xrd that looks like Kula and Capcom might be making a new character that has ice powers like her.

Another one

Nice to see that Twelve is making his long awaited return

He leaked a shit-ton of info along with the names of 3/4 of the newcomers, all of which have either come true or hinted by Capcom for being true.

A zoning German cyromancer to make up for the fact there's no Remy or Guile would be awesome.

All the non character info that Bogard leaked has been confirmed to be true: from the V-Trigger name to the DLC strategy and other things. The only thing he mentioned and still remains to be confirmed is the 3 names he gave: Rachid, Laura, Zen.

But if everything else he said it's true, this will be too unless Capcom decided to change some of these names later, which I'd bet won't be the case.

We have no reasons to thing he is wrong.

lol he has everything right so far, actually the only thing we dont know if he got right are the new char news and the storymode stuff, everything else you can check off the list.

I know what he leaked. I was around when it happened. All the gameplay he mentioned has turned true and I applaud him for that, but until I see Rachid, Laura or Zen I'm just going to keep an open mind on what new characters we'll get.

EDIT: Same post applies to the other two who quoted me.

EDIT 2: Proven wrong on my second point. Removed it.

Ryu is japanese for dragon, Twelve is a number, Q is a letter, Poison is a harmful substance, Eagle is a bird, what's your point?
Eisbahn would be a perfect name for a stage. For a character it just wouldn't make sense.
It'd be the same as adding a new character named "Jurassic Era Research Facility".

But don't get me wrong guys, the new characters Bogard talks about excite me incredibly, perhaps even more so then the old guys. I want Bogard to be right and he no doubt will be. The reason I'm a bit skeptical is because I've been burnt on '100% guaranteed' leaks before and I'm just wary of every leak for every game.

I still want Eisbahn though.

And if you're saying that Capcom have been hinting at the characters Bogard mentioned then, no, that never happened. If it did I must have missed it.

Well Bogard hinted at Brazil and Ono has teased a Brazilian character in that video where he revealed the Brazil stage.

3 of the original 12 were shotos (giving Sagat the label here). That doesn't suggest it was "fireball uppercut, the game," and even if it was, that would have been a really dumb reason to suggest that someone shouldn't be tired of clone characters.

Someone needs to save SNK's designs from fading into the abyss
Agreed. Always preferred SF's mechanics, but vastly preferred KoF's characters and (most definitely) the stages. Especially the latter always made it seem more "street fighter" than Street Fighter. I've always dreamed of a KoF game with a bigger budget and SF mechanics, aw yeah.

I forgot about the characters who have toolsets specifically to counter said fireball uppercut characters.

Forgot about the majority of the cast? Makes sense.

There are more planets than stars in our solar system. But there being more planets doesn't mean that they don't revolve around the sun.

At least SFV is breaking the mold making characters more unique by giving everyone anti zoning vskills.

I wonder if we are actually getting Middle-Eastern character instead of North Africian newcomer. I meant it would make sense if they are going to announce an newcomer at Dubai.
Given that Ken Bogard got everything right thus far, I have little reason to doubt him.

I hope that you realize that it wasn't from Ken Bogard. It was someone from our forum that just made an assumption with the information that they had.

Okay I have a couple of rumors for you GAF. They are probably true.

Ken Bogard is well-known in the french VS fighting community. He's a fighting games commentator and also has a weekly show about VS Fighting on french Web TV "Gaming Live". He apparently has a source at Capcom. All the infos he had in the past turned out to be true and he's not the kind of guy who spread out ridiculous rumors.

So take the following as you want GAF, but I'm 100% trusting that dude.

He also has a weekly "shiny hunting" Pokemon show on that web tv. So on his December 5th Show, while playing, he talked a lot about Street Fighter V. He said he knew stuff and that he'll discretely drop hints during the show. Here's what he said:

- Street Fighter V won't have "Super" or "Hyper" editions. Just updates. He doesn't know if these updates will be free or DLC and does not know if they'll be balancing updates or will add characters and stages.
- The number of characters in the starting roster will be between SFIII and SF IV. He knows the number but not the returning cast.
- There'll be 4 new characters and he knows 3 of them.
- Focus Attacks won't return.
- It'll be released in 2016 and that the month is easy to guess. (He said to think about japanese fiscal years).

Then he dropped some interesting clues. He usually nicknames his Pokemon with stupid joke names but not this time.

3 of his pokemons were nicknamed

- Rachid
- Zen
- Laura

We can assume these are the 3 new fighters he knows about. He also kept mentioning 3 places in the world and he said "there was a reason": Brasil, Africa and India. We can assume Rachid is from Africa, Zen will be from India and Laura from Brasil.

He also named another Pokemon "V-Trigger" which is probably the name of the new SFV mechanic.

So, you know everything. I repeat, I think we can 100% trust Ken Bogard but don't forget either: we're still early in development, things can change.

tl;dr: RUMOR (which I believe is true) French VS fighting commentator seems to have info about SFV. Launch date 2016. No new versions, just updates. 4 new characters: Rachid (Africa), Zen (India), Laura (Brasil) and one more. New mechanic called V-trigger.

Also other quote from same guy,

The origin countries is what I'm not 100% sure of. The show was 2H long. I re-watched it on replay. I only found the moment when he was talking about Africa, India and Brasil. I think I remember him talking about China and Russia too but couldn't seem to find it in the replay videos.

Maybe he knew that Elena, Dhalsim, Sean, Zanghief and Yun/Yang are back. I don't know.

If someone speaks French and want to watch 2 hours of shiny Pokemons hunting, the videos are on Ken Bogard's Youtube page.

There is other translation for information by someone else.

- Time / Weather effects in stages
- Release date : 2016, before the end of the fiscal year.
- Unreal Engine 4
- The new mechanic is named V-Trigger : You can change your stance.
- 16 characters
- No Super Street Fighter 2X + EX (Updates kinda like League of Legends / Killer Instinct)
- The story mode will be way much better, they know they fucked up with sf4.
- The PC version is here mostly because they want to bring the game to Latin America, South Asia, Africa...

So I could see how they would assumed those locations with the information they had: Latin America = Brazil, South Asia = India, Africa = Africa! Also it's easy to assign the names to the countries.

The reveal is in two days and it's a new character. I am looking foward the most to predict which old ones are returning. The new ones are going to be a surprise regardless

To keep the dlc life of this game varied and interesting, plus if SNK isn't doing anything with them I'd love for KOF characters to show up in this.

Good luck with that, SNK has been bought by a Chinese company which apparently has big plans for SNK's IPs and characters.

KOFXIV is also in development.
