What time period do you think the next Battlefield should go?

I miss it too. It's the one mode I hope they bring back. Although I can't see how they'd incorporate it into a World War II game.
Oh god, if they some how manage to bring back Titan I'll die of a heart attack instantly.
what is "fucking stupid"? I didn't imply anything.

Metro was the least favorite map for a lot of PC players. And a lot of my console only BF friends absolutely loved Metro.

There are reasons that back this up. Namely player limits and ability to completely omit Metro thanks to the BFserver browser.

But you can get all pissy over yourself over console vs PC wars if you want.
Debating wether The PC crowd like the Metro map is not exactly a console vs PC war though is it lol.

Ww2 would not be fun at all, the vehicles would be slow and clunky, there's nothing wrong with a modern setting, or a near future like the Final Stand DLC. Also, the next game should have the US Army instead of the Marine corps as the US combatants, I want to fly Apaches instead of Vipers.

I feel like fatigue is just setting in. Do battlefront for a year or two then come out with something shiny.

I'd personally like to see korean war. Don't think that's had a game yet but WW2 would be neat since most modern players picked it up right around when COD4 got popular.

Honestly my fatigue is only with the engine... Bc2 was awesome and bf3 expanded with some amazing flight controls, although the maps weren't always a hit....

Bf4 had a worst possible launch and even after the dust settled I am underwhelmed by the product. gunboats are neat... Some other cool features but...

I could handle another similar game but more destructible environmental aspects, much smoother gunplay, some tuneup on vehicle control and mobility, less glitches and some polish.

Would feel totally new

no, but that's the source of his misplaced ire. I didn't mention consoles once. I said "non-consoles". I don't even need to debate. I remember the Metro hate on PC centered threads and webpages when I was a semi-serious Bf3 player.

We only ever used it as a grinder for XP and unlocks. I mean, I had fun with it, but I had 20X more fun with the other maps.

And before someone smart comes in and says hoy this is a totally subjective experience. it is not. This story is repeated many times in the PC BF3 community.

God please not another WW2 game though. Please no.

Wait, are people really going in full circle back to WW2? lol

Do a cheesy 80s style, kind of like Blood Dragon but in a MFPS

Stick with modern setting and have the game working from day one and I'll buy Battlefield 5 a month later. I can only see Call of Duty going WW2 and remaining some what enjoyable. Maybe an expansion but given how Hardline was a full priced "experiment", which is honestly the worst way to depict that game and consumers, I wouldn't expect it.

Best wishes.

Now we're getting somewhere. This would be the best thing DICE could do imo

It would be a clusterfuck equipment wise though, do we get to use The M1A1HA or do we get to use the M60? Do the Russians use Hinds or Havoc? Plus the numerous countries of Nato and The Warsaw Pact had different weapons and vehicles

World War II. Battlefield 1943 is the best Frostbite Battlefield. I want the simplicity of WW2 back. No attachments out the ass.

I'm done with modern or near future FPSes, not buying another one.

I know its not fully annualised but its sure starting to feel like it.

I'd be happy for them to keep supporting BF4 (and hardline...I guess) and come back in 3 years with something genuinely new.

I've been really disappointed in how they've gradually scaled down the dynamic destruction over the last couple of games as that always felt like a defining aspect of the series. Scripted events like skyscrapers falling down never cut it. Getting that back front and centre would be a start. And a new time period, any time period, other than modern would be good.

And stop making single player campaigns. They aren't good and nobody will miss it.

I want anything but present or near-future. Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, or straight up future a la 2143. I'd prefer 2143, but any of those please.

The only exception to my "no present/near-future" rule is if I get Bad Company 3.

This is a really good video comparing the destruction from Bad Company 2, BF 3, BF 4 and Hardline (Beta)

A return to WWII would be best, but it's far more critical than getting the setting "right" that DICE nail the gameplay. And that means looking to their classic PC titles like BF1942, BF2, and BF2142 for inspiration instead of CoD or even the Bad Company spinoffs.

Lol

I wonder how we all survived before Modern Warfare came out

The next Battlefield simply has to go back to its roots of World War II.
The futuristic shit is beyond played out by now - as is the super fast nonsense Battlefield has become. We need slowed down gameplay with WWII era vehicles and weapons.

We need to see WWII on the Frostbite engine.
Its going to happen. I can feel it.

World War II has already been done.

Modern warfar has already been done.

Future warfare has already been done.

ITs time to go back to some REAL battlefields.

Were talking Crusades Bitches, Battlefield 1091.

Pull out the god damn ark of the covenant after a kill streak.

There was never a quality Vietnam game made (yet) , at least in my opinion. Plus, DICE could do the foilage/assemetrical warfare of Vietnam justice.

You'd be surprised.

I guess im not the only one who knows here on gaf. And im not under NDA but its just shitty to leak. And yes you will be suprised, still im pretty sure longtime BF fans (42 and onward) will be happy. Hopefully they will start talking about it soon after Battlefront launch.

I think the time period should begin one second after the ending of Bad Company 2, and end after a satisfactory conclusion of the story arc.

EDIT: The destruction comparison video above contained several errors regarding BC2, some of which were visible in the video alone. Funny after he goes on about people remembering it wrong. I can't really speak for the accuracy of the other sections, as I haven't played them to the same level.

2ND EDIT: On consideration, given the odds of a BC3 that doesn't make me very angry with DICE being slim, I'll put in a second vote for 1944. If it was a small digital title like 1943, there's seems more chance that the EA machine might let it pass unscathed.

My guess is near future all though a 1940's game would be awesome...

They won't do 2142 since SWBF will kinda fill the futuristic nich (looking at it from a business perspective)

Really interesting. pretty much what I thought, more destruction in the past which has been gradually scaled down. Seems like Hardline is approaching BF2 levels of limited destruction. It's a shame as after Bad Company I thought that destruction tech would become a standard thing.

I'd kill for a large scale MP shooter with Red Faction-type procedural destruction.
