Fighting Games Weekly | July 27 - Aug 2 | Beta luck next time

That Elphelt redesign is... something. I'm actually surprised they changed her, given how popular she seemed. (Although I haven't played through Xrd's story mode at all, and apparently it's related to that.)

Remove all grapplers from all fighting games ever.

Stake went through the heart the moment they mentioned the unified playerbase as a selling point.
Honestly, they could do an arcade release alongside the console version -- it would just need to be clear that it's running alongside the console version and isn't priority one like most arcade releases are. It wouldn't be an issue if it was a standard Nesica release, since it would just download to the cabinet like most other Nesica games and there are no per-license fees (just per machine and per play).

Elphelt's redesign makes me a little sad. Though I usually roll my eyes at overly cute stuff in fighting games I thought her whole character design was pretty funny.

Maybe this is justice since I mained Minazuki from day one or something

So is Prison Elphet like a Robo-Ky/Order Sol scenario or does she replace base Elphet like that redesign of Noel replaced base Noel in BB?

Ok fine, one exception. There is also very little chance of me playing Aquapazza I guess.

Probably the latter because story stuff happens at the end of xrd.

So, Circ (Dustloop admin, all around cool guy) is experimenting with using a reddit-style board for the AFGC to throw stuff up on that's associated with DL. I'd imagine avoiding reddit and the inherent problems is part of the reason to just make his own board.

Anyways, it's an experiment and I'm guessing they wanna just see what will happen if peopl emess with it, so anybody interested should go mess around and play with it for a bit. https://dustloop.herokuapp.com/

It's unfinished as all and some things don't work yet, but it's literally an experiment that just needs a couple people to throw shit at it.

OK, I'm really curious now. Anyone have links?

We just have word of mouth on JP twitter. Everybody is curious but nobody has seen it.

yeah, she's not my 'type' of character at all but I really ended up digging elphelt a lot. can't say I'm excited about a redesign.

Apparently she has a prison uniform, white hair, dead eyes. Going by JP twitter I guess. Dunno how accurate that is but she is definitely different.

Thanks, storymode. If she turns out to be cool as hell I'm sure that it wouldn't be that much of a bother to people.

I'm going to miss Elphelt screaming OHAYOU GOZAIMASU! at you during her super.

I've always wondered if this would work. AFAIK, BBS sites with topic-focused threads for fighting game discussion are popular in Japan so I've wondered how the different discussion formats affected community engagement (if it does at all).

My impression has always been that people don't like the signal-to-noise ratio on Dustloop. The negativity surrounding that is off-putting to people who can only provide noise though so I don't know if I'd ever participate on Dustloop lol.

The posting atmosphere there is borked atm. It's probably about time to reevaluate the direction of the site, who is doing what, scope, policies, design, etc.

It'd be easier to archive the current site, make a "new" Dustloop, and go from there than to salvage the site. Why I wanna play with Circ's new toy tbh. I no longer work there but I know Shtkn sees feedback here and that's all I got.

I don't have any links; I've just been going based on descriptions I've been reading on Twitter. Probably won't be any pictures up until someone starts sneaking them out of the loketest.

So you're complaining about grapplers in USF4 but you're OK with someone who is far dirtier? OK. :p

And you should play Aquapazza, It's A Good Game (tm). Too bad the netcode is asswater (I think a rollback-based system would work really well in that game due to the general lack of movement options and the slower speed, but alas.)

I think that the standard forum model is largely archaic in this day and age, given how social media works. However, the transient nature of social media and the lack of archival/searching options is a real pain point, so I think a site structured like that would be interesting.

The way BBSs work in Japan is a bit different, partially for cultural reasons (as everyone is anonymous) and partially for technical reasons (either being 10 years ahead or behind the curve). That and it feels like the JP communities are way more proactive about maintaining wikis and keeping them up to date.

Social media is no good as a format for providing detailed information and archiving it. It's also not moderated so it's more difficult to keep conversations on topic and to deal with issues that crop up from time to time. Forums in conjunction are way better for that in the long run as long as folks are willing to use it. Splitting stuff into multiple forums is a bad idea though because it keeps folks from checking out other threads and interacting with other people on the forum. One of the biggest reasons why this forum has grown to this size is because we've limited the number of subforums for as long as we possibly could.

In general, I don't understand the need for character specific forums in a game's subsection. There's really never enough traffic to justify it and it's easy for readers to miss threads by not clicking on them. It's probably better to do a megathread that's moderated and updated as information is posted to it. New threads can be made as the post limits are reached. That's the easiest way to promote activity as folks have to see each other posting. JPs use this format (to an extreme though) and we use it here in general like this thread.

Good wikis.

SRK ST wiki - this one came out of no where. I remember it being pretty barren then someone dumped a boat load of amazing stuff.
Dreamcancel has a good wiki for almost every kof game. 13 is the most complete.
Mizuumi Vampire Savior

Potentially good wikis but don't have enough info or enough people doing anything.
SRK HNK
Stand crash Jojos.

Mizuumi is so helpful man.

Slayer got a new VA too it looks like.

If Revelator is a story continuation then they'll need a few more characters. Although there's no fighting involved so I suppose that's not actually necessary. But I fully expect them to announce a few more for console release.

Yeah, his new voice is Takaya Hashi. Also known as: Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film dubs

It's going to suck not being able to hear Iemasa Kayumi's voice anymore but I think he'll do a great job.

Also I noticed that one of Jack-O's Overdrives has the same name as one of Ramlethal's.

The implications!
