I had probably 5 minutes of training, and like 6 or 7 matches. Suburbs of Chicago

Friday night I got in for about 2 minutes of training w/ Ryu, then kicked. Last night (or I guess this morning) I was in for probably 20ish minutes before kick, but most of that time was in matches

Don't play much street fighter, but aren't jumps usually punished by anti-airs/dp? If you jump a lot isn't it more detrimental? As a spectator I always thought the game was usually on the floor.

(I've only done training in SFV at a firends)

Jumping all the time and wrong distance and doing just for a combo starter all the time is punishable yes. But that's why its a chess match. Lets say you jump in when ryu is mid fireball he'll usually be free game after if timed right or when you've been pressuring someone and throw in a random jump to cross them up after they were used to you just being relentless with normals or specials on ground. Situational fighting pretty much.

I probably had about a couple of hours of playing. I had 10 matches but I had a weird thing with the results not reaching the servers in all but one. I live in Florida.

Playing with Ryu, I'm worried about Ken not having a parry of some sort. It seems kinda integral to a shoto to have some type of defensive option, since, well, everyone knows how to defend against a shoto.

Maybe Ken's V-skill should have been a roll to dance around FB or something or does he actually have a zoning game that makes up for him not parrying? I know his V-trigger makes his FB flames and it knocks down, but no one has said anything about the speed/recovery/damage of his FB game, and I'm wondering if you can just spam c.lp or something to get out of his run mix-ups. Really wish he was in the beta, but I can honestly say, Ken/Ryu will likely be my two main characters. I can consistently do high damage with Ryu, and feels he only needs Donkey kick back and he's perfect. Ken I really like, but certainly need to play with first, I'm not sold on step kick being integrated into his V-skill but he at least looks as fast as Cammy.

Thoughts? What tier would everyone fit in right now? Just playing around here fellas, I need we need the experts to frame data/unlock character potential.

Ken's movement + rush down potential looks awesome. If anything Ryu's parry is not even that great you can easily bait it out punish due to the way it works in this game (If it worked like 3S Ryu would be unstoppable).

also, it's way way too early to make tier lists. No point even since the engine has yet to really be broken down and exploited. (Won't happen for a long time after release)

Do we know how many hours left till the servers are back up?
I'm really sorry for asking this question, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm the kind of guy who needs a countdown, or somebody to tell me, x hours left until they're back up.

[edit]
In 1,5 hours i think is what Combofiend said.
Thanks for this. This were posted while I did my post.

So it seems the servers go down at 12:00, and back up at 20:00 in Scandinavian time.

They haven't announced a time yet.
My guess is they are taking Sunday off...

Going by the past few days the button mashing should commence in about 1,5h or 8PM CET.

So that's why people are jumping so much in Street Fighter? To do mixups that confuses their opponent?

Pretty much

I'm going to jump in here real fast. Jumping is, generally speaking, usually a bad idea. It leaves you open and is usually easy to punish.

Cross ups are usually used after a knockdown/hard knockdown as a sort of set play. And obviously if you're in range to jump over and punish a fireball, then that's okay too. Just make sure you're at the right range though, or they may recover and punish you instead.

As a rule, you want to try and jump as little as possible. Though you will probably see people jumping a lot in SF5 simply because it's a new game and people are still learning their characters approach options and such.

Guys, nothing has been announced for today.
This "in one hour and a half" thing is based off on what happened yesterday, but combofiend never gave any time slot for today.

Off-topic, but can anyone recommend the Hori Fighting Commander controller? I got rid of my sticks earlier in the year because I'm just not hardcore enough to keep them kicking around my living room and I grew up with fighters on pad. I quite liked the Mad Catz controller after modding the dpad but that, of course, won't work on PS4. I know that MC has new pads in the works for when V launches, but if the Hori pad is worth it I'll give it a shot.

Literally been trying to get in for hours over these past 3 days
yup I've tried basically any time I was sitting on my PC browsing the web so hours and hours all weekend long and never got passed any errors. Canada is fucked on this one I think. Definitely eastcoast at least.

The Hori Fighting Commander is a great controller, you won't regret it.

Really nice really nice pad. Very well built and well designed. My friend uses pad and I was impressed by it.

What are cross ups though?

Okay, so you hold back to block in Street FIghter, right?

A move that crosses up is a move that actually hits from the other side, even though it looks like it hits from the front side. So if they're blocking, if you hit them with a cross up, they will actually be blocking in the wrong direction.

You can block these by blocking the other way, but they're usually used in ambiguous situations where it's not clear which way the attack is going to land from.

And example would be getting a knock down, then jumping over them, from the right distance, so they get hit as they get up. Which forces them to guess the direction to block.

All of these things I'm learning about Street Fighter in this thread, I'm gonna have to write down in a document to remember. Thanks for the help! :)
