Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

Any HQ footage of the car damage available? I know that this is a racing sim and not a car crash dummy sim, but would love to see how they improved on the destructibility of the cars in this version.

It's possible that the number of light sources might make that one impractical, even if it could look amazing. Imagine a line cars all casting six+ shadows on the main stretch. That's a challenging render load.

Wouldn't be any more impossible than Daytona at night, they've said a few times that some tracks will be lit up like the day at night.

In a lot of settings, the PS1-era solution Gran Turismo used for its rear window reflections is actually pretty close to how it should look, which I always find interesting. It's sort of like how Forza 5/Horizon 2 reflect the driver's hands and steering column on the windshield from the in-car view in a way that looks great, but at an angle that wouldn't generally show it. I actually like that sort of stagecraft most of the time. I guess "I like it until I don't."

Yeah, these visual informations, even if imprecise, really add up to the 'unity' of composition.
And it's cool to see too rain effects in most recent games, we are reaching a nice balance and compromise between veridical behaviour (displacement and build of water, lensing /distortion effects) and quantity of information (droplets should splash into smaller droplets causing a "spray" effect and quickly diminishing visibility) since games already have to deal with constraints there due to resolution and framing (aspect ratio), so they clean it up for the sake of the user.

Do we have Daytona confirmed for stadium-style night races? I don't doubt it can be done, but these are the more high-stress scenarios for an engine.

The only tracks that would be lit up like the day would be stadium tracks and tracks like Yas Marina, I would take their current comments on the game as a indirect confirmation that at least some of these stadium tracks will have night settings.

How many other AAA games, let alone racing games, on any console are locked 1080p and 60 fps locked? That's right... Forza 5 and Forza 6 are the only ones.

That's a baaad excuse, man. Btw... Metro Redux says "hello!" Btw. chadskin didn't say anything wrong. But of course, you must jump on him cuz it doesn't sound plausible for your ears.

There's daytona at night in the trailer.

Here is a screencap:

Feels like a exciting Forza release to me. I can understand to some outside it might not be since we're quite deep into this 2 year cycle.

Most exciting since Forza 3. Could take a new console to topple Forza 3 hype though.

And? Are you saying they should make these compromises just to reach 1080p? We'll have to see how it pans out but F1 2015 at least aims for 900p/60 on XBO and accomplishes dynamic weather, dynamic TOD, night + rain races, pit stops and 22 cars on track. If 900p (and, likely, lower graphics settings than now) would allow Forza 6 to do the same, I'd be happier about that than the higher resolution. Also, for all its issues, pCARS achieves these gameplay features at 900p as well, while - especially with 45 cars - certainly not at a locked 60fps. But Turn 10 is not a small, independent, third-party studio that makes Forza games on a (mostly) crowdfunded budget for three platforms, hence I'd like to believe a first-party studio would clearly outdo them. And Turn 10 does in terms of graphics and the amount of cars but not in terms of gameplay features that I find are a must for any sim racer in 2015. Hell, Simbin's GTR 2 in 2006 had all of these features and, depending on your PC, ran it at a locked 60fps.

On that note, I find it a bit odd when people say Forza 6 is "locked 60fps" when the game is not even done and out yet. Yes, previous Forza games were locked 60fps but 24 cars, night and rain present all new challenges to Turn 10, thus I'd rather wait for a framerate analysis before already proclaiming the locked 60 fps mantra. SMS did the same for pCARS and, well, that backfired quickly.

tl;dr Forza 6 feels like an incremental EA-like update, not the huge step up I would've expected for the second entry on a current-gen console.

Well, performance is already pretty much flawless at E3 from what I've seen, and I expect the same to be true come release time. Turn 10 don't play when it comes to their adherence to a locked 60fps.

Sounds to me you're doing the same. You're assuming that if budget isn't of any concern, Turn10 can achieve practically anything and wouldn't have to compromise, even on a console like the XboxOne, which all of us already know, isn't all that powerful to begin with.

People based their expectations for Forza 6 achieving locked 60fps/1080p/no screentearing on the developer's track record. You?

Edit: Holy crap, thanks Blimblim!!

Well, one of those people was Helios.

Did SMS actually claim locked 60fps?

You're trying way too hard to find faults. It's so obvious u are downplaying everything u can for the sake of not giving credit where due. I can't believe you are now trying to dispute 60fps locked when you have all the evidence that points to the fact. Honestly what is wrong with you?

Weather and day/night don't need to be dynamic to make an enjoyable experience, specifically when it causes a racing game to cut its fps. That's really a horrible side effect. Take the pcars talk out of this thread, its not needed.

Um, okay? You should read the post I quoted to find out why I used the assumption of a locked 60fps. I've then named two examples - F1 2015 and pCARS - that are 900p on XBO which would be a possible compromise to achieve the gameplay features I mentioned.

Hey guys, I'm super happy to report that Turn10 (via the awesome Helios) sent us some 60 fps super high quality footage of the game. Enjoy it :)

And yes, people pretended that their 60 fps footage on youtube was real, when it was just interpolated from 30 fps broll. This is the real deal :)

Holy fucking shit.

Im going to have so much fun driving through puddles with full assists and all the other stuff on. Ma gawd

Look nice! :)

By the way, are there any real tracks that has big puddles of water built up during rain? Just curious if those puddles are on real tracks or the self/home-made tracks.

New thread worthy!

Absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks Gamersyde and Turn 10 for providing this for us to enjoy!

Rain seems to be animated at lower than 60fps. Hopefully they can get this fixed. Besides that, this game looks incredible.

Watched it. Holy shit. That Brands Hatch in the rain part, oh my lord. Perfect atmosphere.
One thing, though. Why don't the AI vehicle have rain (water droplets) on them? Is this a bug in the build they used?

Definitely an improvement over Forza 5. Although, was expect interior windshield reflection ( ie dashboard) but with all this going on at 60fps, can't really complain. Kudos Turn 10

I see more 3D crowds! Hurrah!

Lol you're still assuming Turn10 is willing to make the compromise. Ok then.

Neither of which are first party titles.

There's the windshield reflection. It's harder to notice at night or with rain conditions, but it's definitely there.
