Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

Did a little research into what the other 5 tracks could be for Forza 6.

So far, all of the tracks from FM5 are returning, with Indianapolis getting a ribbon update. This leaves us with 17 environments with 64 layouts (from Badned's list on Forzacentral).

Also announced are Daytona, Rio, Brands Hatch and Watkins Glen. According badned once again,Brands Hatch will add two ribbons, Daytona will add two ribbons, Rio will add one ribbon (possible more though, usually the cover tracks have more than one ribbon) and Watkins Glen with two ribbons.

From this, we can see at this stage FM6 has 21 environments, with a minimum of 71 ribbons. So In order to reach the over 100 ribbons that they are claiming (source, from this twitch stream w/Brian Ekberg http://www.twitch.tv/expertzone_xbox/b/669656057,The remaining 5 tracks must have atleast 25ish+ ribbons (30 if we say Rio only has 1 layout, but I assume it will have reverse/short etc). Does this mean would could see the return of a track with a variety of ribbons like Fujimi or Camino Viejo/Iberion/Ladera? It looks more likely now atleast!

Also Brian said there will be over 80 showcase events in career mode... wow thats a lot!!!

Environments =/= Tracks.

You can have an environment that has an Oval and a drag strip that could be completely separate but both are ribbons.

Oh man, I figured I'd try to get back into Motorsport 5, but after months of playing Horizon 2, I'm terrible at it!

Keep trying to powerslide through every turn and wiping out or understeer off the track.

Doesn't help that the first career race I entered was in a fucking Range Rover. It's like trying to steer a brick. Lol

I'm trying to get hyped but I'm just not...I downloaded the Gamersyde vids last night and I just wasn't overly impressed. I just don't think its as big a leap as I'd hoped. and the lack of weather/night racing on all tracks is jarring, but if T10 have to stick with 2yr dev cycles then can expect no less. It's great that it's 60fps nailed on but it's clear to me (visually) why. But we'll see how the final game turns out.

Has anybody checked some foreign stores already on the price of the Ultimate Edition?
109,49€ in Germany - nope. Hope there's some kind of discount again for VIP and stuff like in FH2.

Can anyone tell me if they're combining night and weather on the same track at the same time is it just one or the other?

Looks like there's a lot more going on in terms of suspension movement.
Very nice.

Don't forget to check places for cheaper Microsoft credit.

I bought some gift codes from CDKeys that saved me around £10 off the price of the Ultimate Edition.

Forza has clamped its jaws firmly onto my ankle once again and won't let go - I started looking at Xbone deals last night. Then I remembered I can't use my FFB wheel. Then I started pricing up a CSW v2 with PS4 and Xbone rims. Then I kicked myself for not picking one up when Fanatec invited me to preorder for €499 (they are now €750).

Could I go back to sitting in my Playseat and using a controller when there's a perfectly functional GT2 FFB wheel sitting in front of me?

Mmm... much soul-searching ahead.

Don't do it Mascot, you'll only get burnt by MS when next gen comes around...

here is a thing: i could never go back to the gt2. got a csw2 now and had a tx for a short time. even after racing with the tx for a few months, i thought my gt2 is broken when i tested it.

get the csw2, forza and iracing. you wont regret it.

C'mon mate, you are a manager at the McLaren Tech Centre. Surely Ron Dennis can fix you up with a new wheel...

That's a lot of monies!

That's an ongoing risk on both console platforms going forward, I think.

Ha ha..! I wish. I had a year-long contract there but that expired a good few years ago now unfortunately. I did get a good poke around the F1 simulator though (and the wind tunnel, workshops, autoclave and the production line for the MP4-12C) and I'm sure Mr Dennis would laugh his ass off at our poxy little sim toys..!

So pretty much exactly the same as PGR 2/4, some of the best games ever despite those.

I don't really follow your reasoning. PGR2/3/4 weren't great because of these features being absent. It was at it's core an amazing racer. The rain and night races were a bonus.
And the fact that the new 2015 first-party AAA flagship racing sim is packing the same limited weather/TOD options as an arcade racer that came out in 2007 is not really a positive in my book.

The absence of Dynamic TOD and weather is a bummer. Even moreso when the option is limited to some tracks and no combination being possible, because if included, it gives races literally endless variety. I get that current implementation is brand new for the Forza franchise, but it feels like an half-step improvement with a lot of unnecessary caveats.

I honestly think it's the narrow development timeframe that's holding T10 back at this point. Microsoft pretty much demands there to be a sim Forza title every two years, that does not give T10 enough room to breathe and fully overhaul their game or underlying systems. You can argue that they shouldn't have to, but people here are losing their heads for a rather limited weather/TOD implementation when I could see T10 do much, much more.

Don't worry there are more layouts. I've just listed the obvious ones. ;)

Contradicted your self there. You said the game wasn't great because of it's options, rather it's core racing; then continued to slate FM for the options it provides disregarding its core racing.

I'd hazard a guess that variable weather /ToD was the ultimate goal during development, but when it became obvious that a locked 1080p/60 could no longer be guaranteed on current hardware (or maybe it compromised the aesthetic in other ways), the decision was made to go pre-baked and only for tracks that would accommodate it. I've no problem at all with this and reckon it was absolutely the right decision. I don't think we'll see variable weather/ToD this generation because I don't think the underlying philosophy will (or actually should) change.

Variable weather/ToD does add almost infinite variation to the experience but FM6 still looks (and no doubt plays) incredible. It's a lock for the Xbtwo though. Has to be.

I never slated FM for it's core racing. The core gameplay is all there and probably just as good as ever. It's to be expected because T10 has literally always delivered on that front.

I'm saying that it's weird reasoning to point at a great game from 2007 that has similar weather/TOD options and say 'this game was incredible, so Forza 6 with these weather features must also be'. It is the racing that makes both games great.

But this entire thread, and seemingly the new 'big thing' for FM6, is for a large majority revolving around the new weather/TOD features. Features I think are oddly half-baked for a big numbered sequel of one of the biggest racing franchises in the world. I think if they had more time and a more lax release schedule, they would have easily taken it all the way.

You give hardware constraints as the reason why it's not happening, and it's a valid suggestion.
I on the other hand think they have more than enough to work with to take weather to the next level, it's just not possible to will that stuff into existence when you have this extremely strict holiday deadline forever looming. They can't risk it.

My body is definitely ready.

Can anyone from T10 confirm if the Acura TLS in the game?

lol Dan please add it 😂

Please!

Is anybody going for the elite controller to play FM6? If it wasn't that pricey... definitely tempting with the extra buttons on the bottom.

Just checked the price for FH2 Ultimate Edition and that is £76.99 for me in the UK, and FM6 is £81.99.

Horizon 2 comes with the game, VIP and Car Pass.
FM6 comes with the game, VIP, Car Pass, Early Access, 10th Anniversary Pack, F&F Pack and FH2 DLC.

I'd say that's a fair deal for £5 more.

£66 if you buy it from the US store, probably even cheaper if you use the Hungarian one........

Buy my T500 and get a TX.

You could have to wheels for £400 if the TX is still around £220.

Might just chuck it on eBay actually, they seem to go for real good money.

New hands-on preview by Game Informer, with some details about "mods", something we'll give out more information about in the coming weeks/months.

http://www.gameinformer.com/games/f...h-the-darkness-and-the-rain-with-forza-6.aspx

Microsoft would not say specifically which or how many tracks did or did not have night or rain options. I also asked if there were different gradations of rain (light, heavy, etc.), but did not receive a definitive answer. I'm also unsure if night turns into day dynamically on all tracks, but the game does have the Le Mans endurance race, so there's hope.

Come on Helios, tell us something!

Variable difficulty has always been a staple of the series, letting drivers of all skill levels push the envelope within their means. A new facet of the game's customizable difficulty this year is the introduction of mods. These are goals you can add to each race (we saw a race with three slots for mods) that present you with specific challenges for which you'll gain more XP if you pass them. For instance, we saw one mod tasking the driver to start the race at the back of the pack and finish well without using any rewinds. Mods have a scarcity rating, and are earned as a reward for doing well in different facets of the game.

That sounds cool, I like that stuff like this is now customizable.

FWIW, Eurogamer reported yesterday that weather and time of day aren't dynamic.

Indeed.

And Dan clarified 'endurance' in one interview by saying " it's more akin to a driver 'strint', i.e. one or two fuel stops, around 2 hours.." so would technically allow static time of day to be used..

I admit from playing pCars, that accelerated time of day was a 'nice to have' feature that I did notice whilst racing, where as variable weather is more annoyance for me, namely that the AI and other things never quite seem to work correctly, so I can forego changeable weather..

Are there any direct-feed 60fps videos out yet? I've seen a couple of off-screen ones and am trying to work out if the refresh rate of the rear view mirrors and replays is 60fps (no idea if they did in FM5 - anyone know? I think replays stayed at 30fps but not sure about mirrors. I only played FM5 briefly). Not a deal-beaker at all, just curious.

Iirc mirrors/reflections refreshed at either 30 or 60 fps depending on system load in Forza 5.
