Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

Forza's configuration of the track hasn't existed for the better part of a decade. The changes over the years have mostly been to things like runoffs and barrier placement, (particularly at turn 6), to accommodate MotoGP races.

As for Turn 10 recapturing the track, I'm not holding my breath, but you never know.

Ah good answer.

Get your shit together T10.

Man I wish I was at E3 :)

That does look brilliant, any idea (if you are allowed to say) if we can expect similar setup at Gamescom? Would love to try it out if I have any freetime there :)

I believe the current plan is to get that setup to gamescom as well. Plans can always change though so please don't hold me to that!

I wonder. Will graphics be better in this game or forza horizon 2?

I know 60fps yadda yadda but in terms of IQ and overall look I'm curious what will have the upper hand?

If its not a big difference then I may pass. I feel I may have more fun with horizon...but I'm a sucker for eye candy. Forza is usually a no brainer but this fall is stacked! I may not have time or want to make time if horizon fills that forza gap for me

So far it looks like this game will blow Horizon 2 out of the water.

The weather and time of day is pre generated, and it's not an open world, so less stuff to generate, you can easily get 2x fps with this.

That's awesome and don't worry, when it comes to conference trips and getting gear there I know enough to know that crap tends to happen in some from or the other... :)

IQ is probably a given for FH, but for all the rest is already a massive difference in style so I'd just look at that and decide which works better for you. There will not be a black and white answer; some things will have evolved from FH2 whilst others are unattainable due to the difference in frametimes and they both achieve wildly different things. It's mostly up to you to decide whether it looks straight better.

Can you say that with confidence though?

I mean unless you can see the frame rate unlocked there's no saying.

Bought an xbone purely because of Forza and from what I can see of FM6 I do not regret my decision. Hopefully can import some money/cars or whatever from FM5.

I don't want my Forza 5 money. Being able to buy every expensive car in the game on Day 1 doesn't sound fun or challenging. :-D

I'm rich
in Forza 5

You won't need to, you'll get a ton of money and cars if you've played past Forza titles, automatically and through Forza Rewards on day one.

Is damage turned off? I see the windshield crack but the car looks intact in all the videos so far.

Simulation damage seems off. Cosmetic is on. But its depends on the car. Those supercars normally has less visual damage/deformation in Forza.

here you can see some damage

FM6 looks amazing. Amazing. It's doing stuff that I seriously didn't think the Xbone could handle at 1080p/60. My resistance has never been weaker. It was hard enough leaving Xbox when the 'Bone launched, and even harder missing the first Forza in eight years. I think it's going to be nigh-on impossible to skip this one.

Turn 10 are using devil worship and witchcraft, it's the only explanation. Dan has sold his soul to Beelzebub.

Helios, you and the rest of the gang must be seriously proud. Bravo indeed.

I definitely think Turn 10 is the currently the best studio with Xbox One hardware at Microsoft studios right now.

I think I even heard him saying that they are going to be giving away ForzaTech to other developers... maybe internally?

I need to find that again and reanalyze what he said.

EDIT- Very beginning of the Ars Technica video:

This caught my eye in the features description:

Does 'new' simply refer to the addition of rain tires, or are we finally going back to the FM2 system of being able to choose from soft, medium, or hard slicks to prioritize grip over durability, or vice versa?

If Helios or BADNED could chime in, it'd be appreciated.

I heard Dan say that they automatically select wet tyres when its wet......

Mascot is back from the depths of whatever!

And yeah, FM6 looks amazing. A real achievement has been made by Turn 10 here.

I know that FM isn't or hasn't aimed to be a 'motorsport sim' of sorts but I really do hope they try and implement a bit of that atmosphere into the game.
We shall see...

Dan Greenawalt Forza 6 Interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot2k7g7S1zE big thanks to Dan for giving us the time.

"..this is a fully simulated puddle. ... If you hit it fast with wide tires you'll hydroplane more. If you have more tread or thinner tires it will simulate you slowing down or sinking further into the water." "....many tires, Grand Prix, Pre-War, different heat tolarances for massive # of different kinds of tires...."- Dan Greenawalt

Not perfect quotes, but as close as I can get typing as he talks.

They created materials/physics properties for every kind of tire they could across nearly 100 years it seems.

The first game launched at 1080p/60fps, they have more resources available to them (Kinect, etc.) as well as more experience with the hardware. So the fact that they can get this game to this point doesn't really surprise me, except it kind of does. Especially after the Project CARS hot mess.

Great interview I haven't seen posted yet.

loose quotation:

Q: Is there a possibility for a third forza franchise?

A: We don't see limitations on the possibilities for how Forza can reach fans, either in platform(console or PC) or by driving discipline(drifting or rally). I'm not announcing anything as this is only a question of possibilities... (there is more to this but not very important.)

Hmmmm.....

Can you do do 3 console triple screen on this version? I already do it with 3 360's and oc gaming but will definitely buy 2 more xbox one's if it has the capability.

Turn 10's attention to detail with their features and unwavering demand for 60fps is commendable. Very impressive that they can bring games out regularly at such a high quality. Not sure if I'll be picking this up, used to play a good amount of Motorsport, but the career gets boring quick and I don't have anyone else to race with. Horizon fills that gap very nicely instead. I'll probably look to see if they're making any changes with career mode to make it feel more like a career rather than a grid of tickboxes before I pick it up.

Have we got any direct 1080/60 footage yet?

Hey, I know some in here are in the preview program. Could someone send me an invite. I think I'm friends with most here. If you need to add my Gamertag as a friend, or I add you...it's Shandy706 just like here.

Toss me a PM, apparently I got an invite a month ago...decided to wait..and it deleted/cleared itself out after 30 days :(

Warm-up laps are in aren't they? I imagine it wouldn't take much to extend that to qualifying for grid positions if consumers really wanted it. The 'race weekend' feeling in pCARS (practice, qualifying, race) is a brilliant feature and wouldn't be hard to replicate. It helps you really feel like you've earned your victories.

I'm still catching up - any word on race lengths in FM6 yet? If these were user-definable then that would also go a long way to answering criticisms from previous Forzas, adding another layer of authenticity in the process.

Still can't believe how fantastic FM6 visuals are. The wet and night races really look superb.

A little of it suffers from compression but it's mostly fantastic.

Helios, would it be possible to get some clarification on this bit from the FM.net features article:

Newer fans can turn on assists that will help them around the track – experts can turn them off and take advantage of our brand new simulation improvements like new tire compounds and improved suspension architecture modeling.

Does 'new tire compounds' simply refer to rain tires, or do we now have a choice of soft or hard slicks for more grip or durability, respectively?
