Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

Looking at the loyalty rewards, it'll be jackpot time at launch !

From the page on FM.net, they're talking about a revamped career divided in "volumes".
Endurance racing appears to be back as well. I wonder if they're going around the TOD limitation by simulating that you actually do stints in a 24h race. Like your first one is the start dry, then they when you pit, you see some sort of animation and you're only back for a night stint and again for a final one with rain for example.

A few things that caught my eye.

more than 100 ribbons

With Forza 6, we’ve increased the capability of our physically based materials system to include porosity and friction values. The result is tracks that feel unlike anything else when the rain begins to pour. When racing in wet weather in Forza Motorsport 6, you’ll experience aquaplaning across real physically simulated 3D puddles, each of which has accurate drag properties. Even getting a single wheel in a puddle will affect the car. Rumble strips, incredibly sticky in dry weather, become slick and dangerous when wet. Each of the 148 individual surfaces in Forza Motorsport 6 will include these dry and wet values, and we’re using new puddle effects that include values for friction, drag, and elasticity. The result is a kind of wet weather racing unseen in any racing game before it.

It’s more than visuals however – for example, at night the tarmac cools down, reducing overall grip, which means that racing at night requires a different skillset than racing in the day.

“Stories of Motorsport” is told in multiple volumes, with each volume being a comprehensive career experience that lets the player travel the world and celebrate the past and present of automotive history. Volumes are further subdivided into series where players can choose precisely the types of cars they want to drive.

Autocross and endurance racing

The game will now feature optional warm up laps that allow you to dial in the car before the race starts.

Drivatars will have a behavioral limitation control that will allow you to completely restrict dirty driving.

I do not want to sound like a troll "I am not" but I honestly do not see any difference between this and Forza 5 in the car models and colors palette of the cars " too shiny to be realistic ? "

maybe better environment?

This is awesome. Also they mention that every track has its own signature (like tarmac texture). Something that I always loved about Forza, while in other games most of the tracks feels copy and paste of the same materials.

That was a great conference. Gears, Halo and Forza. Shame the Forza part is always short.

Both of these things and endurance racing make me very happy.

I'm really, really excited about everything Forza 6.

One thing though: no qualifying laps? Is that right? It means that, despite all the changes to simulation and everything, Turn 10 still expects me to get from 24th to 1st in two frigging laps?

I can't understand that, really.

Static lighting will do that. Turn 10 have never been good with realistic lighting unless of course they don't aim for it to be realistic.

FM5 did not have rain, puddles, or night driving.

Edit: Sorry, I misread your post.

No dynamic day/night transition only means one thing... Short ass races... Again :(

Read the posts above you, lol.

Is this confirmed?

If that's the case I'm fucking out.

It's not that difficult to add both longer races and qualifying as an option. Helios please. Don't let them do this.

Are any of the old Forza games backward compatible?

OK, both of these sound promising.

Its weird that rain and night seems to be limited to specific tracks? That's a Gran Turismo solution - not what Iv'e learned to expect from Turn 10. If limiting its use was required to keep things at 1080p at 60fps without problems than I'm fine with that choice.

Is there a summary of the new stuff anywhere? The OP isn't updated and this is the only thread.

nom nom nom

Edit: 450 autovista quality cars. God damn.

Is anyone on Level 8 Rewards for FM?

You have have to max out all the games that count in order to be level 8....

I'm like 800 points away, and normally wouldn't care, but dammit, I want that '14 R18 e-tron.

Helios, surely the tier reward cars can still be purchased with in-game credits, right?

From ARSTECHNICA preview:

New multiplayer racing leagues (and online spectating) offer the competitors and multiplayers a more focused experience, and (finally!) there's an option to have a warm-up lap or two before a race starts, so you can get dialed into a track (still no qualifying laps, though).

I know they talking about online races, hopefully there's qualifying during career mode. Not holding my breath, though.

Gotcha.

I can understand not all having rain like Yas Marina or whatever...gets dark everywhere though.

Yeah, I understand not all having wet surfaces, because it involves a lot of extra modeling on the track with their puddles and material properties approach, but night races? Isn't that just more pre-baked lighting calculation by their self-made supercomputer(I think they connected a bunch of high-end PCs together for that in extra room. That was the story in FM5)? Maybe I'm wrong and it's more complicated... or it gets too big for a single blu-ray??I've heard that pre-baked lighting is a lot of data. But then they could just make it downloadable. Hmmm...

Anyway, I'm really happy that they reworked their already great tyre model. Best racing news for me today. I'd like to hear some more talk on modern suspensions, e-diffs, rear wheel steering, variable torque split and vectoring. Because I didn't feel any of that in FM5, even if they said they modeled all of those in FM5.

They're not on the 100-title long list at the moment.

Or not since they have 5 and now 6 coming out.

Halo is not on there with the MCC out.

beaten... yeah, I hope it's just not a priority and not a "no, never".

Was talking about endurance races being mentioned. ;)

Don't hit the inside of the track during rain here....

Helios-

With all the changes and improvement in the game, can you talk at about image quality? I always loved the graphics in Forza games, but the image quality was never a high mark, with AA being the one thing that needed a bit more attention due to the jaggies. With all the improvement to the engine and knowledge, will we have a cleaner image now?

Thanks!

I'm tired of it. At least let me set my own race distances in career like pcars. I prefer sitting down with a car and a track for longer than two or three lap races. Let me be crazy and do 20 lap races.

I'm not trying to sound like a naysayer because I'm really not... I'm a huge F6 fan and can't wait to get my hands on it, that's the reason I bought the latest TX wheel for and everything.

But isn't it odd that cars don't leave dry marks os trails on wet tracks? I see spray coming up but the wet track stays exactly the same and that's bugging me. Am I the only one?

Tire model has also been improved and it now simulates horizontal tirewall flexing.

I'm glad that, from everything I've read, hydoplaning is working out how I hoped.

It's not just a catch but it actually realistically affects the car.

So if you drive into a puddle with your right tire it will pull the car to the right.

Early access to ultimate edition is disappointing. I won't be able to get it and will be extremely jealous of those playing before i get it :(
