AP: NFL finds it probable that Patriots deliberately deflated balls

I can see how those things are related and the same.
It was a poor analogy.

But to be fair it is pretty hard to find defenders and sympathizers of cheating cunts. I don't remember anyone on this board sticking up for Barry Bonds, ARod, or Lance Armstrong the way Pats fans are doing for Tommy.

Did Brady really say he didn't even know one of the guys? And now they have text conversations between Brady and that guy?

No, there was no direct text between the two.

One of the guys texting the other dude said, "Yea, Brady mentioned you". so I guess it's kinda the same thing.

If my Bills can't manage to beat Jimmy Garoppolo and the Pats in Week 2 AT home, I will hold my head in shame.
Wear a brown bag to work the next day.
Weep openly in front of my co-workers and loved ones.

The Tom Brady cult is terrifying. This is some Jonestown level shit.

Welcome to sports fandom. Enjoy your stay.

I honestly don't think this is as big a deal as people making it to be.

But Brady fucked himself by not coming clean earlier.

As always, the coverup is worse than the crime.

What would it take for you to part ways with the cheater?

Did you ever even disown Hernandez or are they all part of the dysfunctional family no matter the crime?

Maybe if Brady were drunkingly force himself on a woman would make Brady fans turn on him.

When interviewed, Brady claimed that, prior to the events surrounding the AFC Championship Game, he did not know McNally‟s name or anything about McNally‟s game-day responsibilities, including whether McNally had any responsibilities relating to game balls or the game officials. When asked specifically whether he had spoken with Jastremski about McNally on the night of the Jets game, he stated: “I didn‟t know who Jim McNally was so I find it hard to believe I could bring that up.” On this point, Brady‟s statement is inconsistent with Jastremski‟s statements that Brady knew McNally and made a comment about McNally during the Jets game when complaining about the game balls.
.

This drama might make the Pats and Belichick run a table like after spygate, putting up 50 points left and right.

Are we sure Ben was drunk?

He definitely forced himself on drunken women, most probably without their consent, but I don't recall that Ben was extremely intoxicated

But thats Ben's MO. Between the lines on the field. Raping fat chicks off it.

Oh yeah, cause coming clean to get suspended before the Super Bowl (that he won) would have been so much better for TB and the Pats than risking some kangaroo court punishment during the regular season.

You misremember Barry Bonds. Lance Armstrong and ARod are different, yankees fans came to hate Arod and wanted him suspended because of his contract. Nobody liked Armstrong.

That said, shooting steroids into you and your teammates is different from knowing or not knowing that an equipment guy is deflating footballs to 12.5 PSI.

Lol, I love an extra-legal private investigation into slightly under-inflated footballs has prompted comparisons to rape allegations and convicted murderers. AND THE PATS FANS ARE THE CRAZY ONES

Oh so this is the kind of cheating that doesn't matter.

P.S. I am pretty sure that ARod got his trainer to inject the steroids directly into his buttocks. Just like Tommy directed his trainers to knowingly cheat with the balls, something that he pushed for in the first place!

NPR ran some interviews in Boston this morning and several Pats fans seemed disappointed and disgusted with Tom and the Cheatriots so it made me feel better about the situation. Maybe gaf patriot fans are a culty aberration.

Whether he did or did not know, he's still the GOAT. People are actually comparing "probably knowing" about under-inflated footballs to taking steroids, illegal drugs, to increase their performance? Pitchers used to doctor balls all the time and some are in the hall of fame. Jerry Rice used stickum. He's in the hall of fame. It's a wrist-slap offense.

I just think people are salty because Brady and the Patriots won four Super Bowls the last 15 years and their team won less.

"Probably knew about them" is a hilarious interpretation of what you know full well happened. That's bill Clinton parsing right there.

My whole thing isn't so much with defending Tom Brady as it is responding and being amused by the wholesale hysteria that the world takes on when a scandal breaks involving the Patriots, Belichick, or Brady.

Case in point, New York radio personality Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo went absolutely bonkers insane on Tom Brady's Dad because he called Brady's Dad trying to get an interview, and Brady's dad replied "not a chance," and Mad Dog went on a 60 second, ridiculous rant calling Tom Brady's Dad spineless and gutless for not going on New York radio with him. It's the most mad I've ever ever heard Mad Dog, he actually lost his voice over it at the end of the rant.

So, sure, Brady is my waifu and I love him, but I'll tacitly admit he probably knew about these guys letting air out of the ball and liked that they did it. But, I'm mostly fascinated by the insanity of people around the world when there's an opportunity for a Patriots scandal. Hell you have the President of the United States making jokes and jabs about deflated footballs, and yet he's silent on LB Greg Hardy choking and beating up his girlfriend while someone in the background screams to 9-11 "Hes beating her fuck ! He's beating her!"

It's the spectacle of it all that I love.

Why did Brady deflate the balls again?

Is it so his hands wouldn't look quite so small on television?

And lets not forget the Pats amazingly improbable fumble rate.

But guys, lets stop talking about the cheating (2nd time they were caught, who knows what they got away with) and just acknowledge that the Pats are the undisputed greatest of all time because that will make their diehard fans feel better!

That's not actually his interpretation, that's what the report says.

"It is more probable than not that Tom Brady was at least generally aware of inappropriate activities."

I agree with you, it's hilarious.

Athletes make the statement all the time: every athlete does things to obtain an advantage over their opponent, implying that all athletes will bend or break rules if it’s the difference between winning and losing. Not all athletes have that mentality of winning at all cost. Real athletes try to get a competitive advantage over their opponents, but that advantage is pursued through hard and extra work, preparation and studying your opponent well. The problem is sports is such a business nowadays that the integrity of the game means nothing to athletes these days. How sad. Clearly Brady's situation differs from the ones listed, would hate for Brady's legacy to be tainted to that degree. .

The thing I love about all this is the fact that people are making a big deal about a rule the NFL didn't care about at all. The independent report also confirms that even if you do nothing to a football, the pressure can drop below 12.5 and some Colt balls were below 12.5 . People are mad because the Patriots balls were below the Colts ones even though if you take the rule as the rule, the Colts were also technically in violation. Pats probably did something deliberate, but holding up this rule as sacrosanct is the dumbest thing on the planet.

Well, the actual quote in the Well's report was it "more probable than not" that Brady was "generally aware", so you can blame the Well's report for parsing if you want.

Either way, even if it said that he definately knew, the rest of my point still stands. It's a wrist-slap offense.

I'm pretty sure you're aware that the Pats' history with cheating scandals is what's causing this hysteria, coupled with their success.

It's not a surprising response honestly, especially given the special place the NFL has in terms of the most popular sport in the US.

This is playing out much how I expected.

-Successful team
-Previous cheating scandal
-Terrible PR Year for the NFL
-Cheating discovered in Playoff game
-SB Win

That's just a perfect recipe for this response.

Ah I see now; the Brady texts were between him and John Jastremski.

All they really have is second hand info that Brady supposedly brought the guy up; for all we know it didn't happen.. or Brady referred to him not by name, but as "ball boy" or something.

Weird that you have more faith in Tom's innocence that he did, judging by his failure to cooperate with the investigation or turn over his cell phone.

Also, context is a real thing. Some would say almost as real as the salt that is coming out of every Pats fans tear ducts in the past 24 hours.

That "improbably low fumble rate" has been disputed 1000x times over. Pretty much every person who has a shred of credibility has said that the deflated balls offered no performance increase outside of perhaps personal comfort or a psychological affect.

I think the main thing here isn't that the balls were deflated, but Tom Brady straight up lied about the circumstances regarding it.

It's like when Richard Nixon said "I'm not a crook" when Watergate happened.

I guess when you are part of a cheating culture for such an extended period of time you eventually start to think it is normal.

I agree with you and bolded the important part, but I'd go beyond "coupled with" and say "because of." I'd also say because New England was a down and out AFL franchise it has something to do with it too, at least in those first 4 or 5 years of success.

I get why fans of other teams go rabidly insane for negative Patriots news, I used to do it too whenever something negative came out about the Yankees, but I just find it very amusing. I could have considered my insanity around the Yankees back in the 90s and 2000s as amusing if I were a Yankees fan.

It's just the success and salty tears of almost all other teams except a couple. Other teams have star players raping women, beating women unconscious on video (and then making her apologize), and beating kids bloody. No where near the backlash.

I guess when you are part of a cheating culture for such an extended period of time you eventually start to think it is normal.

Nothing I wrote is wrong. In winter time since the dawn of the NFL and the stupid rule, balls have been under 12.5 PSI due to nature so the letter of the law is broken constantly. Tampering is different, but it is crazy to make a huge deal out of something the NFL never cared about. If they did, these checks would have been done constantly and readings recorded which they weren't even done at the start of the game.

They don't really come to any definite conclusion other than more statistical work needs to be done, though they do acknowledge some benefit is more likely under the models they use even if the link between deflation and fumbles remains speculative.

benm: There’s definitely more to be done on the Patriots fumbling to isolate for the fact that they were the most consistently winning team, the types of plays they ran, their personnel, how that period fits in historical context (have other dominant teams had similarly bizarre quirks), etc.

Weird that you have more faith in Tom's innocence that he did, judging by his failure to cooperate with the investigation or turn over his cell phone.

I've said a like 5 times, even in quotes to you, that I don't think Brady is innocent. Wish the education system where ever you're from was up to par with Massachusetts' breh.

Fans really don't care about off the field stuff.

You know this.

This stuff has been going on for decades. It only came to a precipice this season due to the Ray Rice video.

But you Pats fans just gotta own the hate and envy from other teams. Embrace being the Evil Empire. Yanks did.

You guys are big boys. Stop worrying about the criticism.

Technically, the pats have only cheated off the field in the stands and room where balls were deflated. :-)

You forgot serial murder. Forgot what team he played for.
