and now, the pain train begins #2800 #pillarsofeternity

Shiiiiiit

I should have upgraded to the collector's edition.

Sneaking into the castle is another option that might be preferable, and a simple athleticism check – one of five core skills in the game – allowed the party to clamber up the ivy that draped down the side of a tower. Once inside, finding and equipping the robes of monks gives you a chance of sneaking past the wandering Paladins that guard the area, but bluffing your way out of this predicament will depend on the numerous dialogue options that are open to your character, available depending on which traits have been built up over the course of the game.

I'd say about two thirds to three quarters of the game's content is completely optional," he told Digital Spy and other journalists at this year's Paradox Convention.

"It's very important, I think, for the sense of exploration that you feel you do not have to go to that many places. There are lots of places you can go to whenever you want, at your own pace."

JS: Guards will call for help. They won't run away but they will call for help. And you do have to be careful about where you choose to engage them. You can actually take on individual guards by themselves, but there are patrollers so you might have adds, and when you have those adds they might shout and pull guys from behind them. You kind of have to watch.

We tried to make sure every map did have some patrollers on it because even a few of them can really change the dynamics of how fights play out.

JS: They're going to be extensions of the main game. We are making an automated save for you, it's actually called the Point of No Return Save. So if you complete the whole game and you're like "Oh %#&^, the expansion came out," great. Load that save, you can go straight into it, it's fine. It's something connected to the main game but its own separate storyline, and you take your normal characters into it. We're in the very early stages of planning it.

We have to see exactly how it integrates in terms of location and how it shows up on the map, or whether it's its own separate world map. But we have a ton of locations. Baldur's Gate was about 100-110. Baldur's Gate II was 200-and-something? Ours is 150. Pretty big. It's a long game, even if you play just the crit path. If you play all the stuff it's a very long game.

[Are you looking at save imports for a sequel too?]

JS: We'd very much like that. People like the idea of taking their characters on a long, epic journey. Even going back to the classic RPGs, it was nice to bring your character in and keep going with it.

Contrary to what someone interpreted what our CEO said, we're not working on a sequel at all yet. We're not even really talking about it except to say "That'd be cool. Hope people like this game." But we do think about, if we were to make a sequel we do want the player to be able to bring their character from this game, come over into the next game, and of course reflect the choices they made in the previous game.

I don't know if a new thread should be created, but if it should, I will let someone else make it.

Probably should start the promotion rolling for this game. The order was getting like 3 threads a day. Pillars deserves all the exposure it can get.

A good preview thread would be nice. I've been quite surprised at how little enthusiasm there appears to be for the game on GAF. All the threads seem to kind of peter out rather fast. A good detailed thread with pretty gifs and pictures and some choice vids and articles would be nice. Hopefully we'll get more stuff throughout the day.

I think most people interested are older, so they aren't toiling away hours in hype. But also that it's a rather niche genre anymore. From when the industry was much smaller. It's the type of game that doesn't wow people with visual feedback. So much more of it is immersing yourself in the lore and the more personal dynamics of the game.

Not sure who is doing the OT, but a preview, distillation of why you should be interested sort of thread would probably good to have going.

HP_Wuvcraft has claimed the OT

Doesn't seem like much of anything has come out besides those couple articles unfortunately. Though some of the vids from the Backer Beta are really great. Just saw a good vid on Chanters and wow I'm quite impressed. Definitely now on my radar now as a serious contender for starting class. Still kind of leaning towards a Rogue with guns to get my Arcanum on, but maybe not.

Man I'm really interested in chanter and cipher but those roles already have companions attached to them that I definitely want to experience so I dno... Maybe a rogue or a monk.

Aren't all the roles occupied by a companion? I feel like with the way they've set up the attributes it wouldn't be a big deal since you could specialize in different ways. Plus with a Chanter you could both choose different phrases and stuff and cover all the bases. Seems like an extremely deadly combo having all those buffs and debuffs going on at once. Plus you could string them together so that when once Buff runs out on one Chanter it kicks into effect via the other.

How do you guys think this will do in sales?

Obviously the really hardcore - us - already purchased it. Will it do as good as Divinity:OS, better?

No there are 11 classes (?) and 8 companions. You can create extra party members in a Icewind like manner but they wont have any story or dialogue and whats the fun in that?

All classes will not be represented by companions: 8 companions, 11 classes.

I'm hoping for something in the 400-450k range but I don't know if that's good or bad.

Ahh I should probably have known that already. No Monk, Rogue or Barbarian. Guess that makes my wanting to be a Rogue gunner even more appealing. Monk I'm surprised isn't used by a companion, the setup for that was quite unique so you'd think they'd like to showcase it.

I've mostly used Chanter in the beta, since that's what I'm rolling in the game. I mainly wanted to make it a summoning class, but darn if some of the other invocations aren't good too.

Most of the classes are actually pretty enticing, which is rare as I normally just don't care about a lot of them in most games. They all at least seem to offer something interesting and unique, though Priest, Druid and Paladin aren't something I imagine I'll ever play.

Just curious, but what reasons do you have for avoiding those classes specifically?

I've never been huge on support heavy classes, though Druid's can be pretty offensive I never cared for their nature theme. Paladins as well are just a class I never really connect with, especially on RPing level. I'd much rather play a Barbarian or Fighter as a more pure melee character, or as a Rogue or Ranger for more indirect attacks and fun sneaky stuff. Though I've never been too big on the Rangers=summons and creatures stuff, always preferred them as more ranged focused, but the way their summons work sounds interesting. Chanter only really interests me because of how unique it is in its design and how I've always liked the idea of a Bard class but never could get into them before.

So it's a bit just actual mechanics and play style, but also just that characters I like to RP as just don't really fit into those roles.

I don't have the bb so I was wondering if phrases disappearing out of combat hurts that class. Don't you have to go through some extended period of combat/chanting to get enough phrases to say summon skeletons or something?

Check out this vid, doesn't seem to take much time at all to get enough phrases to summon/cast spells.

I'll just have to be well prepared.

I think you'll probably need to turn off isplaying locked out dialogue choices or you'll probably go insane knowing you're missing out and can't choose certain options.

I understand. I'm still undecided for which class I'd like my PC to be, and for that matter party composition. As you pointed out, most of the classes have at least something unique or interesting about them.

As for Priest, and Paladin. I think the RP opportunities could be interesting. Religion plays a very large part in the setting, and your choice of deity appears that it will have meaningful significance on your character and interactions with others. Paladins appear to also have similar opportunities depending on your choice of order, and judging from what I've read aren't necessarily single-minded, as is sometimes the case with Paladins in other fiction.

That said, other classes like the Cipher intrigue me a lot to, and have a strong connection to the lore/fiction of the world as well. Have any of you already decided on party composition (roughly)?

PRe-orderd the game guide. Thinking about pre-ordering the strategy guide too.... But I'm not sure. I usually don't get strategy guides, but it would be ncie to half for a second playthrough.

Anyone else thinking of getting the strategy guide?

I'm getting everything via my pledge.

Those new screenshots ...
The dialogue choices shot ...

I think I might take a day or two off when the game is released.

probably going with a Orlan Nature Godlike (dem horns) chanter for my first playthrough. I like to roll bards in anything-but-2nd edition D&D because of the charisma main attribute (which affects conversation skills) and access to magic, and as far as I can tell the chanters are pretty much the bards of PoE

Give me the game now.

Oh man.
Oh wow.

This is the most beautiful game that I have ever seen.
Seriously, nothing compares to this.

I've been trying not to think about this game too much, since I haven't had the money to put in for the Beta...
And I know it's "only" just over a month to go...

But...
Wow does this game look amazing.

I held off this long but the hype is started to take hold of me now. I need this game in my life. I just hope I have enough time to give this game the love it deserves!

This is so beautiful. I feel like sleeping with my PC under the covers now, it's like I went 15+ years back in time looking at those screenshots and I don't mean to say that they look old, but that they look as fucking fabulous as any cRPG around that time looked (to me at least!).

After being slightly dissapointed at The Order I cannot wait for this one. Everyone seems to be on the Bloodborne train but this is the real deal for me. Dialogue tree pic reminds me of KOTOR2 where you got more options from different skills ect. Good stuff.

For those who have played it, if I loved Divinity: Original Sin, will I like this game? It looks fairly similar, but you can never know.
