Rumor: Halo 5 commercial shoot picture (spoilers?)

Intriguing. Nightfall didn't sell me on Locke much, hoping the game does.

This is the same for me.

"Yay we escaped because a former spartan sacrificed his life for us, and completed the job."

Maybe the second stories would have helped me understand him more? Though i did enjoy it.

You know what other landscape the photo reminds me of? Earth. No reason to believe that they are on Reach.

The idea of
someone bringing a comrade's body back to what they think of as their homeworld (John was born elsewhere, but Reach was his "home" after he was captured for the Spartan II program) would make sense, especially at a memorial on Reach. This is just supposition, but John would want to be back with "family."

nightfall worth watching?

So-so. It does get better after the first few episodes, but it's hardly great.

There is no reason to go back to Reach.

Probably just a unique memorial for the commercial.

How would you know? There was no reason to go back to the 1st Halo Ring and yet they went there in Halo Nightfall...

What I'm trying to say is, that you can always come up with a reason.

Why? I think they can be really cool, interesting, and fun. If people want to see footage of the game they can easily go to Youtube.

They show you nothing about the actual game. It would be like a book being marketed as a Jumble featuring words that are in the book.

They show you the plot, central themes, main character, some sense of the atmosphere, an idea of what you'll be doing in the game... I dunno, I see what you're saying, but it doesn't bother me. People know live action commercial don't necessarily reflect in-game content and they can go to Youtube for that info.

honestly why do they keep making fucking live action commercials for videogames

stop it. stop it. stop. it.

show your damn game.

Meh. There are so many avenues to see game play nowadays, why worry about a commercial having any? Heck, I've already played Halo 5, lol.

Commercials aren't for people like us they are to grab the attention of the people that don't go to YouTube hence why they broadcast these commercials on nwtwork television. I've never seen a live action commercial that reflects what happens in a game properly.
It actually allows them to skirt around something's because they can say well
If you expected this or something similar to
It in the game well sorry this was a live action commercial. It's sketchy.

It also under represents video games as their own medium as interactive entertainment as opposed to passive entertainment.

I hope they don't, I enjoy them a lot. If they weren't making those, we wouldn't have gotten that beautiful commercial for Reach, which was better and more emotional than whole actual game it was marketing.

Someone PS wallguy into it.

What's wrong with them? They're generally really cool. Also we've already seen loads of 5. It's not like this is the first look we get at the game.

We've played the bloody thing for a 3 week beta a year before it releases. How does that show a lack of confidence?

i think it shows a massive lack of confidence in your product

it would be like getting martin scorsese in to direct the commercial for the next transformers movie

I dunno, a lot of us have played Halo 5 now through the multiplayer beta. It's not like the game is in hiding. We're well outside the window you'd expect for a media blitz, we're months away from E3, and having a live-action commercial means you can produce promo content that doesn't interrupt game production.

That all feels pretty reasonable to me.

Especially since 343 have been talking about master chief as a character and that you have this new dude who is voiced by a real actor. It's like well stretch guys making movies or video games?

cmon M$ show us some campaign gameplay instead

What if this is a shot from the Spielberg series?

What if this has no relation to the Halo 5: Guardians campaign that 343i is creating at this moment?

What if we base outrageous assumptions on one picture and think our assumptions are absolute and hate anyone who thinks otherwise?

What if.....

I feel you on all that except for the Youtube part. Youtube isn't some niche enthusiast thing. I'd be willing to bet most people look up a trailer before buying a game, especially if they only heard about the game because of a TV commercial. Commercials aren't necessarily meant to perfectly and holistically portray a product. They're meant to hype it up. Though I agree that achieving both is ideal.

Ah yes, halo 5. The reason the mcc was worth $60 for me. Praise the lord for 343 going for 60fps with halo 5. Can't wait for this game.

Duty and Honor Above All

Chief all messed up at the foot of that memorial? Is that Earth?

WTF is going on here? I still haven't played MCC or watched Nighfall so I'm not sure what hints we have at the plot but this is some interesting stuff

ODST had one of the best game commercials of all time. Hopefully, this one lives up to that.

Not sure why people have such a problem with a live action spot. It's really just different creative way to advertise the game. There's really no hidden meaning in it.

I'm excited to see this commercial because I've loved most of Halo's marketing material.

Yeah, usually good stuff but the cosplay live action from Reach wasn't too great and Halo 4 Did you know Fincher did it, Fincher! but not really was weak. It hasn't been really good since Halo3/ODST. I don't care much for their live action take on Halo and Halo itself has gone a bit cookie cutter and cartooney then made even worse by being serious.

Why are they filming a commercial right now for a game releasing in September?

Also, shouldn't they be working on getting MCC fixed instead of filming commercials?

Huh. Sure looks real enough. Now is Locke helping Chief there, or hunting him?

I get a feeling it will be him hunting him until the last act of the game, then it turns buddy cop movie and they fight _____ together.
