Event #12 - Teddie's Final Countdown
t1423126800z1.png

Hang in there... those still hanging in there.

Don't need to wait 'til the next event to listen to the goodness.

The time is approaching! Will likely get a quick sleep in soon!

Anyone here ever watched the Nijuu Mensou no Musume anime? It was
initially
about a thief who pulls off the most outrageous thefts. I think he had a thing about announcing what he was stealing before the actual theft.

I wonder if this poster is working along the same lines. "Tonight, I will be at Budokan" and then he steals... Lotus Juice off the stage.

Isn't that a pretty common trope, the phantom thief who announces his heists/tricks?

Not that I'm complaining - it could be fun to see a Persona spin on the idea.

I honestly can't see that as anything else as build up.

I think her journey is meant to be purely sisyphean. We had a discussion about it on this page of PersonaGAF, and I took P4AU as pretty much a confirmation that there really isn't a build up going on, but her journey is to be used as a driving force for other stories, which ultimately have no effect on the outcome she seeks.

NichM made a salient point about the philosophical nature about her journey on that page, and how it expands outside of the boundaries of the games' internal narratives.

Whole Elizabeth's story was basically:
Hey, I am trying to find a way to get you back! I need more power to do that though!

Then she acquires the Fool Arcana and basically goes: Maybe with enough powerful people I can do it!

I honestly can't see that as anything else as build up. Then there is the fact that she is out on a quest specifically to get him back.

Not everyone is on 50 posts per page flux :P

To all of you still awake, I salute you. I will be making a late night run to 7/11 for some coffee and more snacks. We will get through this together.

Gotta admit, that was an interesting post to read. I am fine with whatever the outcome of her story is. What I am saying however is that giving hints or circlejerking like they did with Elizabeth's story is kind of a kick in the nuts to the people hoping that it will be a plot point in the future.

I see The Answer getting a lot of hate and I don't really get it. To me The Answer represents closure on the issue with the P3 protagonist. The Persona 3 party realized what happened to him and decided to do what NichM detailed in his post. They decided to live to the fullest, better themselves and people around them in the future to make the burden easier for him.

Then Arena came along and decided to show off the
sealed door and Erebus
along with her story arc revolving around
freeing him from the seal
. It was perfectly fine with how The Answer ended and I just don't see the point of coming back to it in Arena.

Man, you guys and gals are real troopers. It is 4PM here and I am house shopping with the Mrs while checking in. Not sure I could pull an all nighter for one reveal, but I guess this is a once in a console generation kind of event^^

What if this "Teddie's Countdown" is just hours of him ranting, just like last time?

Doesn't make more sense that Persona 5 stuff would be those red question marks, 5 hours from now??? D:

Sure, they referred to the journey even in Persona 4 itself, before P4A. It's something they could have just left alone instead of frustrating people who hope for there to be a conclusion to the arc, but I think the impetus to write this journey for her wasn't really for the P3MC's sake, but so that they had a venue to develop Elizabeth's character, and how she can grow as a person. I think, if it's ever revisited in the future, it'll again be written for Elizabeth's sake, and not really for the sake of what she wants to achieve.

Thanks for staying on top of the opening post, by the way. It's been a really big help so far.

No prob. Wanted to make this thread 'cause I tend to stay on top of this Persona stuff.

The Persona extra club at 18:30 is said to include "all kinda of persona news" so that should be worth watching at least for P4D.

Don't want to derail this thread much but I figured this is a good place to ask.

I've never played a Persona game before and thinking about starting Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4. Would it be best to play it on PS3 or emulate?

Hmmm, you're right. Elizabeth has come a long way since Persona 3. Counting Persona Q, Arena and Ultimax she has received tons of character development which can be it's own reward.

I would recommend starting with Persona 3 and working your way from there. Persona 3 can be hard to get back to if you play P4 first and it's a shame to see people overlook Persona 3 when they have played 4 first. You can get both Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 from US PSN on Playstation 3. If you truly are set on playing Persona 4 first though I would recommend playing Persona 4 Golden on Vita if you have one.

Dont know how good the emulator is right now... but i would say buy yourself a fancy new Vita and play the better version.

Also i wonder why nobody talks about the new teaser image.

Well, i played P4 on the ps3 and i thought it was just fine. Also depends on if u want the extra stuff from Golden ofcourse.

either this or get a playstation tv (70 bucks?) with persona 4 golden (20 bucks?) and use your ps3 controller on it.

Sorry if it has been brought before throughout the thread, but is the guy in the P5 teaser poster Sho whatever from P4U?

Anyway, I'm at work and ready to do this. Come on!!!!!

67 hours in Persona 4: Golden, my first Persona game, decide to read through this thread and join the hype train for Persona 5.

Thread is completely filled with unmarked Persona 3 spoilers about the ending.

Well...thanks for ruinng the ending for me. :/

Now I'll go in knowing PERSONA 3 ENDING SPOILERS:
the main characters dies/gets trapped. I mean really with these spoilers? Really?

Reporting from Budoukan! Tons of merch on sale as fans wait in rain/ snow for it to start!

Also, teddie, mothman, and mara arts n crafts

I want that new protagonist to be a real psychopath.

Or the Phantom is the character from the Video and is actually the antagonist. And Sho the protagonist.

That would be actual interesting... then we have a non-generic MC(When it comes to looks).

Screw you, by the way. It's 2:13 AM here right now. Tried to get some sleep earlier... that didn't quite work out.

Yeah, I'm in the same time zone. I was gonna try to get some sleep earlier in preparation, but I just wasn't that tired at the time, so now I'm gonna have to just push through all the way (it's gonna be easier to stay up as oppose to wake up after an hour or two).

Just finished listening to the top 25 list, makes me really want to go back and play P3 now. Really wish PS2 classics worked on PS4 so I could just play FES there, guess I'll hook my PS3 back up sometime. After last time I'm refusing to get hyped but at least P4D opening theme will make it all worthwhile no matter what happens.

The last version of the game is 4 years old and it's a thread full of Persona fans

Not to defend the people who posted the spoilers or anything but the game is over seven years old at this point. Besides, it's more about the journey than the destination.

What would i give to watch the last event with you guys, i guess i'll just start screaming like a crazy while in class when they reveal P5 related material.

Edit: those Mara plushies HOLY FUCK

Yeah, I knew that would be an issue. I tried to not spoil anything during the discussion on my end, but I'm sorry that you ran into spoilers for the game. At least, it's one twist out of many, and shouldn't dilute one's experience in P3 at all; just give them another perspective as they go through it.

Edit: those Mara plushies HOLY FUCK

Yeah, the hosts of Persona Stalker Club made Mara plushies on camera in episode 12.

It doesn't matter how old it is or if a thread is full of fans, theres always people who haven't played a game, even if its 30+ years old spoilers should be marked, especially of the ending.

During the Persona 5 stream a year and a half ago, I was spoiled on Persona 4's ending. Venturing into something regarding that games' sequel was my own damn fault.

You should stop paying attention to this hype train, because you don't need to read this thread to get spoiled. You can just watch the stream and it'll do it for you.

So what has happened so far? and what are we waiting for now?

So far they have released the P4D opening video and teased that Persona 5 is definitely getting revealed at the end of the event. As for what people are waiting for now, the entire countdown event is basically synced with the big Persona concert which is held today. The main countdown itself is slated to end around 6:30pm in Japan, which is when the concert officially kicks off at Nippon Budokan. The concert is called "Persona Super Live 2015 in Nippon Budokan: Night of the Phantom" and the "Phantom" character seems to be a phantom thief tied to Persona 5.

When the main countdown ends, don't expect a Persona 5 announcement yet. There will be some sort of ongoing live programming on the stream while the concert is happening, but it's probably going to be filler until the concert ends at 9pm-ish. They'll probably be showing something related to Persona 5 at the concert, and they'll be delivering the news to fans who aren't at the concert via the live stream.

But spoilers won't be marked, so just don't go into a thread about the game when you still want to play it.
