I haven't been on this thread for the past weekend since I've been busy with Smash and school. I just wanted to give my impressions so far about the game.
It's awesome.
  • I've had so much fun with this game ever since I got my hands on it. I've done battles with my friends locally and online, and they have been great and smooth.
  • Every character is fun to use, and even the Miis are fun to play around with.
  • The music gallery is amazing, and I've used the sleep mode function for it a lot.
  • There are a lot of options for single player imo, and they're all fun
I hope to have battles with you SmashGAF!
But for now, I must go back and work on a group project
I still can't believe I can play Smash on the go!

Thanks for the tips. Yeah, Greninjas tongue scarf nonsense kinda freaks me out but he looks like fun.

Any tips for pulling off Smash attacks more consistently? Do you have to like hold A down everytime or can you just do a quick less powerful Smash? Sorry if I sound stupid.
Not stupid at all. Do quick smashes unless you can time a charged smash. It depends on the situation.

Quick question. This is my first Smash game and I'm getting my butt kicked but also having fun. My For Glory record is awful. I'm like 13-55.

Who is a better main for beginners.. Greninja or Lucario? I like both and would like to pick one character to get good with. In having a really difficult time with ZZS.

I'd say Lucario. His moves are really intuitive and he becomes a complete monster once you've taken a bit of damage. Decent in the air, great smashes, a great dash attack which allows a lot of follow-ups, a counter to punish the obvious dash attack spammers, and a decent projectile.

The way I play him is to react to the opponents attacks. If they dash in, throw them off by stopping their flow with an aura sphere and continue to shield grab them. Mix-up your recovery by alternating between aiming for the ledge and aiming straight at them. Once you get in their head, you've basically won since landing a smash attack kills very early.

The c stick in previous smash games is how you'd do the quick uncharged ones consistently.

Need the New 3DS or the Wii U version for that.

Do you play melee or project m? I find myself playing too aggressively as well because of how I play falcon in project m. Hard to try to switch to a defensive style in this game.
Yeah I play both of them. Main Doc and Diddy respectively, but I wouldn't say I'm super aggressive with either of them.

You don't sound stupid at all! It's all situational, of course, but you usually don't want to charge a smash attack against more competitive folks. At least in my experience, it'll get you punished more often than not. However, if you catch them in a state where they won't be able to move for a second (falling after an Up-B or landing lag) it can be beneficial to charge for a moment.

Best advice I can be is to experiment constantly. Just try and bunch of different stuff, even if it ends up killing you. Eventually, you'll find something that works and can work towards improving it.

Yeah I keep getting punished. It's hard for me to get the smash attacks down because I don't want to break my circle pad.

My last question for you wonderful GAFers is... Is there a way to like get up quicker off the ground? It seems like I just get bounced around a lot because I can't recover quickly.

Tech by pressing R before you hit the ground. If you hold a direction, you'll roll as well.

You want to press R just before you land. You can also hit left or right to roll as you get up. Sometimes it's best not to press R though, if they expect you to.

Man, this has to be my biggest gripe so far. Greninja is the main newcomer I use and I Shadow Sneak to my death or simply aim Hyrdo Pumo poorly so much. Now the we know for sure that we're getting the Wii U version next month, I might focus on other characters until then. I thought it was just me at first, but after a few days I still can't do Up B consistently.
The match that prompted my post had me staring in disblief at my Circle Pad after Shadow Sneaking into a wall twice.

Sometimes I get frustrated with this game. It seems like whenever I try to D-Air, my opponent's Up-Smash/Tilt has priority. And yet whenever I try to Up-Smash/Tilt, my opponent's D-Air gets priority. I can't win!

On another note, is there a good way to dodge ZSS's dash attack? I try to dodge in the direction she's going and it always connects. I try to dodge in the opposite direction and it connects. Should I just shield it, I guess?

Sidestep > Punish.

Finally done playing as the stripper. Yay!

Now time for Ganondorf...

I'm using the Pac Man costume that looks like he's wearing oven mitts.

I'm gonna need some Pac Man or Cooking themed shit talk for the tourney this friday.

Completely open to suggestions.

I got the game yesterday, and only a couple of hours ago, found the screenshot function.

Loving it so far although I'd like it not to lower the difficulty in classic mode if I lose.

Captain Falcon is a beast.

Love the Comedic Duo:

Holy crap, I hate having Robin used against me, it is so easy to space me out with Robin. I've been getting better (Beat the Robin that made me post this) but there's a lot of room for improvement for me

Nils, are you meaning to keep items on? If so, that's fine and I'm down to keep playing, but whoever loses gets control of the rules, so that's why it switched all of the sudden.

Oh my godddddd I can't do that Home Run Contest challenge for the life of me. I've tried the Shulk Buster -> Smash method but I'm either a second too slow or mess up the spacing. >_<

Oh thank god I killed 4 enemies in Cruel Smash. If there's a challenge one the board somewhere for killing more than that, I'll shoot myself.

Or use a hammer.

Whatever works.

As I am doing the "do 10 man smash with all characters", I come to realize a major flaw for people that actually want to go for low times: loading the giant version of your character eats precious seconds off the timer if that's the only enemy left.

For those who keep killing themselves with Greninja's recovery trying to activate Hydro Pump it only works if you press up B and not diagonal up B. Press Up B first then quickly the direction you want to go.

so the Smash Bros. Facebook page confirmed that Bill Trinen, Toph, and Prog will be commentating the Nintendo 3DS National Open Tournament

LOL

That was so great.

Speaking of Comic Con, I just remembered that I uploaded all of my Smash 4 pre-launch impressions (Best Buy and Comic Con) to Giant Bomb. I wanted it all in one spot, and GB blogs are pretty.

So yeah, it's all there (and slightly updated), for posterity. There's probably some really funny, outdated sounding lines in there already.
