playing online counts for unlocking stuff btw

I played hundreds of matches online then each time I played against the CPU a new challenger showed up

Lol. Hopefully we don't have to unlock everyone in the wii u again.

Right. Not that it's THAT big of a deal to just grind out 120 Smash matches if need be, but I really hope that part of the connectivity just allows unlocking the characters at least. If this doesn't happen, then I'll... I'll... I'll write Sakurai a harshly worded letter to notify him of my disappointment.

I felt that way against a few people. It's like, how are you playing so fluidly with these utterly garbage controls?

Exactly. But this guy was beyond that, his f-smashes were fast, like c-stick fast. Also Sheik gets priority on uair over Yoshi's meteor which is garbage.

This is what I thought he was doing. He was extremely fluid and made no mistakes whatsoever. He either mastered the 3DS and the circle pad and was able to avoid any and all mistakes that could be caused by having such tiny controls or he had a GC controller.

Either way he was good. Wish there was a way to add people after for glory, he would've been a good sparring partner to train with.

Yup I'm hoping for the same thing. If not I like to sign that letter of yours lol.

I'm starting to think that the anti edge hogging mechanics might've been a bad idea. Little Mac has no way of killing an opponent other than oneshotting him out the stage, and if he's take to Battlefield it really hurts him.

Really, I think that's just what it feels like when someone's a lot better than you. Even if they aren't super technical, it feels really overwhelming when they're mentally switching between situations way faster than you're even ready for. At least in my experience, across every Smash game.

Finally got to play my first online matches online after getting the game on Friday.

1vs1 was actually quite manageable with the lag, I didn't notice a huge input lag, like in brawl, the game would stop at times in one match though, all other ones I had were very smooth.

Had a match with a friend that was a slideshow, another set of matches with another friend that were all very smooth.

GOT OWNED BY A DUCK HUNT PLAYER ONLINE HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT SHIT

Round two, I learned to deal with that shit with Falcon.

Also the only little mac player I encountered was't very good.
Like the player seemed to understand that he had to stay in the middle of the stage, and didn't try to make risky approachs, but I guess I got lucky since I happened to pick Ness and I zoned the fuck out of mac, two stocked mac and didn't even get touched once, felt kind of great actually.

Prog is still commentating huh?

Well I assume he isn't going across country to do this so it shouldn't be too much of a strain on him. Glad to hear him again! :)

Out of curiosity, what was the Duck Hunt players name? I beat a Falcon during our first match together, but then proceeded to lose the next two.

I can't recall, but we only played twice, first one I lost badly, I won on the second one. Well only the first two matches the player used Duck Hunt, the third one I think they used Lucina (that could have been someone else though) haven't really been taking track of the names, I should.

That wasn't me. I only use Duck Hunt in for glory.

Oh ok. I don't think I know who Prog is, then.

Prog was the other black commentator at the Invitational who had to step away from commentating after EVO 2014 due to some health issues.

Prog is still commentating huh?

Well, he does live in NY so Nintendo World is like in his backyard. I still wouldn't expect him to be at a national out of state anytime soon, though. BUT at least we get to hear him sooner rather than later! :D

The more I think on it, the more I think there will sadly be no intro on WiiU. Nntendo has been cutting down on extra stuff and makes their games easy to get into as of late. They just want to put you into their games as soon as possible. Even Skyward Sword didn't have a intro unless you waited a few minutes unike past console Zelda games. And I have to agree with this, I just want to get into a game as quickly as possible. Maybe a intro only the first time you play the game, otherwise it got annoying skipping that intro in Brawl lol. Especially since games, even Nintendo games, take longer and longer to load lately.

Very true with what you said. However I will say that first and foremost I am just beyond thankful that the 3DS Smash plays so well and is such an improvement over Brawl. If them not having an intro helped them polish up the mechanics it is fine by me. You look at something like Melee that is just perfection in almost every way and add on that unique intro and it is one incredibly package.

This thread is monstrous so I haven't read everything.

Been playing a ton of online matches. I find it easy to get a 10 streak win. But that 50 streak win is going to be tough. Every once in a while, I'll find myself fighting someone with an unusual strategy that takes me a second match to defeat.

The unusual strategy that I encounter online is the best part of playing this game though. Absolutely love that about playing online.

However, it can sometimes irritate me when I have to fight against someone who only spams one move in hopes that I'd stumble and lose. I still win those matches, it just takes way longer than I'd like for an average match to go on for.

Most annoying fight was against a Lucario player whose sole strategy was to stand at the edge, dodge all of my attacks, then grab and throw me off in hopes that I'd screw up trying to recover.

Dealt with that by running up to him and randomly not doing anything. Just doing weird shit to confuse him. It worked because after a while, he messed up when to block and dodge so I was able to grab him and combo from there.

I usually fortress because it comes out significantly faster. I find people guard my down smash in time. :-(

Dsmash is really just a safer alternative to Usmash (and I think more damaging? Don't quote me on that). Usmash is slower than Dsmash, at least in terms of start-up and it almost always is guaranteed to pop people up into the air while Usmash may not even do that as it depends on where you hit with Usmash.

Up B really is better, though. Particularly because of its invincibility on frames 1-5 (pretty sure it still has it in this game). Dsmash is really only good for the damage it does.

Sweet hope you get one. I really enjoy the system.

Can't wait to get that new touch screen controller for my wii
*bad old joke gets booted off cliff one last time*

Seriously though, MK8 and Smash and ORAS coming out that month too. I need a good bundle or I'll be broke broke.

What is Bowser's down smash good for?

I hate that move and stick with down tilt.. Down smash has like no range so the active frames only help if the player rolls into you. I feel like hit boxes don't make sense a lot of the time. The one that really upsets me is his up tilt.

Where can I find the setting to have stocks with a time limit?

Where can I change which maps are in the random pool?

You need to get 200 KO's in smash mode to unlock those options. Set up a 99 stock match against a level 1 AI with a 300% handicap to make things go faster.
