Holy shit I swear to god level 9 bots are harder than any person I've faced online.

Jesus fuck Game and Watch and Peach bots. Holy shit. The horror. My butthole is still sore.

So uh the matches you bet on are prerecorded right? The lack of lag confused me but I was literally just shown the same fight as like 5 fights ago.

Her animations are like the best part of Palutena in Smash. All the elegant little pirouettes and her taunts are some of my favourite examples of animation in the game. Gives a very whimsical vibe to a lot of her actions. VA is just a combination of it not being Ali Hillis, and there's otherwise not a lot of opportunity for expressing the character through VA at all. I was hoping for Uprising conversations in the game, and while they're a pretty stand-out omission, but it's a bit odd to hold it against the character for what opportunity Smash tends to give its' characters to express themselves through witty dialogue or voiced lines.

I'd agree that in that I'd prefer a moveset that keyed more specifically to Palutena's abilities in KI:U rather than the assortment of powers (or at least abandoned the unique customs and stuck them to a Viridi/Medusa clone :lol), but she certainly doesn't feel soulless.

I get what you're saying, and maybe that's the reason why I wasn't that excited about her inclusion initially is because the stuff that really makes her exciting is her conversations, not her fighting, but I still think she's a missed opportunity in this game. Losing Ali Hillis might really have gone a long way, because I swear something about her VA in this game nearly makes me cringe. Even if it's just mainly yells and a few words, I feel like those few sound bits are so important in subtlety capturing a character in fighting games, especially when a character is first being defined in them, and Palutena in this game completely misses the mark on that.

As far as her animations go, I only played her once in classic and have just observed her a few times as an opponent, but while not they're not awful, I still feel like they missed the mark. Her smash attacks are great, but everything else is pretty meh. Her feet should be projecting light when she kicks. Her up air should shine a beam of light above it. Her forward tilt should look like a a true whirlwind of power. She had so much potential to look like an amazing goddess, but instead she just flips her staff around a lot.

I'll have to play her again and observe the animations more closely, but overall she just seems much more uninspired than she could've been.

man I love the Villager's stoner alt. It's very fitting since he attacks with weeds and pots and looks baked as shit

The Lv. 9 AI seems really inconsistent from character-to-character. I just fought a Lv. 9 Wario and for some reason he kept running to the other side of the stage and spamming his jab combo. He barely actually attacked me.

After 3 hours i am now 35-26 in 1v1s. I used Little Mac, Mr Game and Watch, and Bowser.

The top 3 characters that gave me trouble while using little mac were mario, rosalina, and diddy kong.

Kind of sad how many losses I got, but im glad of all those wins.
I prefer playing people that can consistently beat me. I find that it helps me to overcome my weaknesses.
Thats a good point, never thought of it that way.

15 Tips for playing Bowser:

1) Flamethrower. Use it for spacing and approach.
2) Suicide with the claw if you are up on the last stock. You earned it!
3) Most projectiles can be destroyed by punching them. Duck Hunt Dog is much more manageable when you know this.
4) Block, then Fortress. All the time.
5) Dont use f.smash unless you know it will hit. Basically, to punish a dash whiff or a broken shield.
6) u.smash has invincibility around your shell. You win all exchanges from opponents above you. Abuse it. Even activated counters will not hit you. It also hits on the way up and down, so air dodges do not help.
7) Pivot and bair for aerial kills.
8) Learn to land right. Easily what I struggle with most. Nair is instrumental here. Fortress through pursuit attempts.
9) Can you trade hits? Unless it will kill you, do it. Browser is harder to kill than the opponent.
10) You have passive hyper armor at low %. Punch through everything.
11) Is your opponent camping the ledge? Flamethrower and watch them squirm.
12) Jabs and ftilt are your go-to ground Attacks.
13) Chase roll recovers into Klaw.
14) Hop over projectiles into Flamethrower for your approach.
15) Be patient. You have good spacing and defense. Don't feel bad about dashing in and rolling out a few times before committing.

Started as a list of 5...I am no expert, but maybe my knowledge will help others. If anyone can figure out the point behind d.smash, let me know.

To add:

16) Don't spam Bowser Bomb (down b). It's incredibly unsafe a good portion of the time.
17) A good situation to use it though is to grab the ledge if you are being juggled/need to get out of the air.

First one is common sense, but I see way too many people do it.

After complaining about how laggy some of my matches were I just had a dozen ultra-smooth For Glory matches. Huh.

They were really fun matches too, a Japanese player who mained Palutena against my Wario. Think we ended roughly tied too, kept managing to trip them up with a Wario Waft at the last minute, though I feel like I spammed the Wario Bike way too much and totally misjudged a few jumps so wound up causing a few dumb deaths.

Just wish I could've had matches that smooth with my friends. :T

Apparently the match select doesn't matter even if you're setting the match rules. I just want to play the yoshi level but it keeps picking the pancakes level instead. :(

I wish custom movesets were viable in For Glory mode. Megaman's Tornado Hold gives a more offensive potential in that an aerial can easily be followed up after hitting an opponent with it.

you're pretty awsome, your playstyle reminds me of a friend of mine. i will beat both of you one day as well.

Thanks! You're not far off man, you've got a lot of the reflexes and skills. You'll get it for sure. We'll have to play again soon! :)

I'm down. I wanna try Duck Hunt for a while though so apologies in advance lol.

Hah hah, no problem. I've got a room up. I'm "Pete".

Loser gets to pick stage though.

I was almost certain I lost every round but one, and picked Yoshi two times in a row, but it didn't come up until the third time.

Also I don't know what state you're in, but there is practically ZERO lag. Which is a bad thing, since you dodge all my stuff. :(

Living on that beast coast.

Man, being able to rematch in For Glory is inflating my ratio a bit. I don't think I'd be 130-17 without all those stubborn players. I need to test for fraudulence!

Anybody wanna 1v1 for the next 30 mins or so? Expect me to pick a lot of characters.

Sounds like your friends have wireless interference, shitty internet, or need to reset their routers.

Quoting for the new page since it didn't get much time.

I prefer to call it a strategic victory, rather than suicide. Is Fortress Up-B? If so, I need to learn to use that. I had to look up pivoting, and it will probable take some practice. What do you mean by #13?

Thanks for the advice, though. If I can get better with Bowser, that will only be better :)

Isn't it better to use down-air most of the time? That is what I tend to use.
