I thought Sakurai said internal testing suggested Samus was the best, or at least at the time of E3.

There was no context given on that, as in, what game type she was considered "the best" in. He could have meant FFA, he could have meant teams, or he could have meant 1v1. Honestly, I'm more certain it was FFA. Plus, we have no idea what skill level the testers are.

In general, Samus lost a chunk of what made her "decent". Her new Nair is decidedly worse than her old one, partly because it covers less range in front of her and doesn't last as long. Her missiles are harder to use as a zoning tool due to more endlag on them (or at least it feels that way) and lack of any missile canceling to speak of (though this was absent in Brawl to begin with she could at least autocancel her missiles with full hops). Her Dtilt is weaker than Brawl (at least from what I've heard) and her bombs still don't explode on contact.

The only pros she has is that Up B can somewhat KO people now but that's a little iffy of a positive change because Samus primarily uses Up B out of shield to get out of pressure situations. Then the other pros she has involve her Fsmash having more range and slightly more knockback, her Usmash connects better and feels stronger, and her Ftilt is slightly better as well. Neutral B is also faster and stronger. But these pros don't really outweigh the cons because she's supposed to be a zoning type character yet they nerfed her projectiles (except Neutral B). And then we have characters like Duck Hunt and Palutena who have way better projectiles without any real commitment to them and they chip away at someone's damage so much better than Samus' projectiles do it's baffling why they made the changes they did to Samus. :/

Why Dark Pit? I don't think I've ever seen anyone use him, and almost nobody use those other two.

more like:

lose with Little Mac->switch to supposed counter and lose again->"eh the first match was a fluke right"->switch back to Little Mac and lose again->ragequit

His stage is the Nintendogs stage. It makes sense.

That's really far-fetching speculation. Maybe they made Living Room as his home stage because he don't have his own stage in the game. Like few characters did in the past games. ROB's home stage was Mario Bros.

I'm pretty sure that they gave him a Nintendog stage because he's a dog, not because he was original nintendog. Or it would be mentioned in trophy description. :P

I think it's more because I've played with more Japan players, but some people think ZSS/Sheik/Dark Pit are high tier/good Little Mac counters. ZSS is, but not if you suck ass with her.

I'm loving the For Glory 1v1 mode. Had a really good few rounds with someone as Yoshi vs his Kirby. It was really close every time. Also, much less chance for lag in a 1v1.

I decided to try out some new characters in For Glory and I gotta say Rosalina is so good. I have seen the light, potential main right there.

I tried to main Rosalina and Luma but it's pretty hard getting the double teaming right. On the other hand I randomly tried playing Pac-Man and this guy is awesome. That fire hydrant is very OP on Final Destination stages.

I've yet to lose to a Little Mac with Falcon. Mac's the perfect weight to get trapped in a Falcon Uair string or D-Throw -> he jumps into Knee. In fact, most Little Macs I've fought are just pretty bad altogether. They seem to just like to Side B off the edge (so much so that I've started calling that the "Little Mac Special") :P

I have no idea how to deal with Rosalina lol

She's a really good counter to Falcon.

Yeah Rosa's a tough one to deal with with Falcon. Usually I just focus on killing Luma first that way I can get some damage in on her while Luma's out of the picture. Luckily Rosalina's pretty light in this game so a fresh Raptor Boost will usually do the trick on her.

Wait, did nobody else have to fight Duck Hunt on Battlefield to unlock him? Or is this about classic moode? I guess that, either way, the change is weird

Guys I am in desperate need of tips for Shulk. Sometimes when i play as him he clicks for me in a match (against lvl 9 cpus...) but i feel like I'm not using his tools right. Any suggestions are welcomed.

I beat the shit out of two Falcons in For Glory today lol. If you read the Falcon, I feel he's one of the easier characters for Mac to beat.

While you say all that, and I will pretty much agree on all that, she still isn't that low (well for me). I would say I have 90+% win in 1v1 so far. Or maybe it's just that I am good with her and people aren't able to play my mind games.

Her forward air and up smash are really hard to use and not very good even if you connect. There's also a lot of lag if you miss with the grapple beam.

Otherwise Samus is extremely effective at just about any execution of her moves. She's not a "zoning character" like she used to be, but her upAir is fantastic, her charge shot is fantastic, her upB is fantastic, her down air is lethal.

I have never played Samus before in my life but I got great with her very quickly in Smash 4. You have to stop letting your history with a character dictate how you play them. I was a Pit main in Brawl and he controls so differently in Smash 4 I can't play him at all. He might as well be a whole new character. I still don't like him like I did Brawl Pit, but once I stopped trying to do what I used to do I understood how NEW Pit worked. For example, Brawl Pit needed his backAir to KO and his upTilt for damage output. Now he KOs with sideB and can use his neutralAir and rapid jab much more easily for damage.

You just have to learn how New Samus works too. And I think you'll find that Samus is a really easy to use killer with reliable damage output and one of the best KO moves in the game with her charge shot.

I'm not much of a Shulk player, but I've come to realize how good his nair is. Abuse it, it's really good for guarding the edge also.

You have to really be feeling it!

I haven't used him enough to give pointers out, sorry

Just got my butt handed to me 6 times by a flawless Marth player. I forgot how beautiful a good Marth looks in motion. I feel no shame.

That's why you don't actually play Samus, but rather a small Mii Gunner with Charge Blast, Gunner Missile and Bomb Drop.

EDIT: Though with customs, she becomes a monster stage/space control character.

One of the best KO moves in the game, alright.

Newer Smash player here. Someone help me understand; are trophies the main point of progress in the game? Do they have a point other than collecting purposes?

3DS kills my precision :(. So far its fantastic though, but I can't feel its but a bite of the big full course meal that WiiU version will be.

You probably want to focus on the challenges. The trophies are just for viewing/reading the descriptions.

Seems like any lvl 9 CPU with a counter spams it with near perfect timing. To me at least. Maybe I just suck.

I find the CPUs mainly suck aside from their perfect counters, which of course are perfect because they know your input. Cheaters.

My strategy is to stay near the ledge and try to bait a dash attack -> Shield grab -> Back throw -> edge guard.

Should kill at any percent that gets him a moderate distance away from the stage on the throw.

I've found that to be the case as it has great range and using a short hop with it still guarantees a good hit. I should mention that my 1st main is Mario and I want Shulk to be my second so sometimes it feels like Shulk is too slow for me but I know I have to play him differently. I do enjoy his style changes but I'm at a loss for when to use Backslash or how to follow up on aerials. His tilts are a bit odd too.

Yeah backslash has really been killing me:(

Yep, that works... against bad Little Mac players, that is.

Good Litlte Mac players will just kick your ass if you try that.

I'm not the best in the world or anything, but here's my advice:

- As someone above already said, n-airs are great with very little landing lag, so if you can make your 3DS behave and consistently short hop you can use them with relative safety.
- Down Smash can mess up people who try to roll behind you as it has pretty wide range on both sides.
- Space yourself as best you can (again, lol 3DS but do your best) to make the most of Shulk's gigantic range advantage.
- One of the big things to playing him that I keep hearing everywhere and honestly believe to be true is that you DO NOT try to rushdown with him. He's a defensive character, so let them do the work and you respond accordingly.
- Make use of your Monado Arts. You can go crazy far distances that people don't expect with Jump, and Speed can mess up an opponent's game plan. If you take a lot of hits from someone then don't use Buster as often, as it actually greatly helps to get you killed if you're getting hit a lot. Armor is damn good at high percents and the rage mechanic nearly negates the knockback loss allowing you to tank and still kill.
- Vision counter is amazing and can hit from a VERY long range. Also, if you're right up on them and you're on the ground when you counter, hold forward. It does a version with higher damage and knockback.

FINALLY DID IT! God that match up is horrible for me, thankfully most players probably won't have the BS perfect counters and dodges that a level 9 Little Mac had. Dude has like no lag at all between his attacks and dodging/landing that it is ridiculous. Not to mention his damage output and ease of killing is incredible.
