Great games! Thanks for playing! Is Yoshi your main? He's definitely a scary fight! We'll have to play again some time!

I've still got a little time left to play if anyone else would like to do some 1v1s.

You still up for some games? I'd love to play!

Really thinking of putting Little Mac to main status and Shulk to secondary.
Though I won't use LM in ranked since he's all over the place there.

Reading through several pages of this thread and there's little to no complaints about the online play.

Should I see that as anecdotal or factual? Does the online actually work the way that all Smash Bros. players wanted and hoped for? Or are there still issues?

I'm really thinking about re-buying a 3DS for this. I'm already planning on buying a Wii U for the console version but I'm not sure if I can wait that long.
With good connections, players in nearby states work great. Playing across the country would be laggy but I still haven't tried doing robust tests with such a player pinging outside the game to see if it's ping-related.

the trick with playing Rosalina is that people think you're helpless without Luma and slow and wear and dress but then you're all like "priorities, sucker"

Okay, I had my fill of FFA anyone want to go 1v1 with me? FC is 5327 0960 1912

I was waiting for Anonymous Tipster but I don't think he's here anymore. I'll play if you want!

EDIT: Oops, looks like you're here. Yep, I still want to! Sorry DooD.

So, the impressions that no one was asking for! My thoughts on the second best Goddess Palutena.

now to stop playing palutena before my robin skills deteriorate again

Pretty good write up and I agree a lot with your sentiments. A lot of Palutena's moves are just needlessly laggy and aside from her customs she is a very underwhelming character.

I'll still play her online and (hopefully) wreck some fools but damn her kit is so punishing to use.

, I was really eager to test out Palutena, and I've been playing a lot of her both on- and offline. Her tilts are horribly laggy and just begging to be shielded. Likewise, her Smashes are slow (particularly FSmash and DSmash), but USmash is brilliant.

Regarding her aerials, though, I've found that UAir is surprisingly good as a kill move because of its multi-hit nature and solid knockback. (Granted, it can be difficult to land, but it's a good option.) Likewise, her NAir has a relatively long-lasting hitbox that can still strike opponents who thought a simple air dodge would be enough. I haven't experimented much with her custom specials yet, but everyone has been praising Jump Glide, so I might have to give it a shot. Thanks again! :D

Her customs are the sole reason she's a viable character in my book. And probably the reason why they're immediately unlocked.

Is it even possible to finish first in smash run? Or go the 5 minutes without dying for that matter? Been trying it for the last hour or so.

Link dropping down-air on Rosalina falls in this category. It's a sword pointing straight down, right? Seems dangerous?

Rosalina beats it, assuming you time it right.

Random thought, didn't Sakurai say during the E3 tournament that Samus was one of the top tier characters at that point in development?

I guess that confirms what I was wondering -- whether you can use Palutena's custom moves in For Glory.

Since you presumably can't, that seems to significantly weaken her.

Is it weird that my favorite part of online is the spectating mode? Its so fun to bet on players with gold and root them on.

Also there's no annoying lag

Yea, it really sucks. I have no motivation to play For Glory because of this. I want to practice my Palutena and become better but I can really only do it by playing GAFers (since my friends are bad.)

Uair is pretty solid, but as you mentioned, the hitbox is pretty precise (and you'll be lucky to get 1% off it horizontally, lol) and it's really not that useful off-stage unless the positioning happens to be entirely serendipitous. It's definitely pretty good when it does connect, though. I just never feel safe trying to use it against anything that's not a dummy, haha. Always feel like it's safer to stay on the ground and charge an Up-Smash or something. I might have to agree with you on N-air after going back to reexamine the move, though. I wrote it off since, much like Palutena's other staff twirly moves, it has pretty long start-up and I was focusing a lot on what was practical in terms of acting out of her Jump Glide, but the hitbox does stay out for a while and it actually has pretty good coverage (around most of her body, seems like), so it's probably bound to be pretty useful for covering your descent.

I really can't emphasize enough how useful that Jump Glide is, though. It's got so much utility, it's crazy. Going from Warp to Jump Glide is a goddamn quantum leap. :lol

Nice writeup, I had a similar experience with her myself. She definitely didn't live up to hype, but I also didn't to give her up either. She's pretty frustrating to play at times, but she's undeniably got her appeal as well (You're kicking ass with Palutena; what's not to love?). Hopefully tournament organizers make a special exception for her and allow the use of her custom specials.
It'd be a god(dess-)send if she did get her customs. The idea of Palutena being stuck with Autoreticle/Reflect/Counter/Warp for the rest of Smash 4's competitive lifetime unsettles me deeply, and would probably totally scare me off of using Palutena at all. She's a very hard character to use as it stands, so depriving her of her best options out of the interest of bland equity would suck a lot.

The God's honest truth right there.

well maybe, but this is Link's sword we're talking about, so that can't happen

:P
I'm guessing this is a Master Sword joke or similar (I don't know a lot about the Zelda franchise), but Rosalina's up tilt either out-prioritizes or just plain out-ranges the down-air. I think I've used this to counter Game & Watch dropping straight down with his down-air, which I used to also be afraid of.

Now that I say this, maybe I'm confusing Link's down-air with G&W's down-air. I will have ot test again when I find someone to play link.

I am guessing (hoping?) that competitive players won't have a problem with custom moves being introduced, once everyone has them all. It's quick to select a profile and use them, and they don't seem TOO crazy.

Yes...

In the context of FFAs.

That and if she was considered the best at that point in development by a significant margin then she would have seen the nerf bat.

no it's a "Link is low tier and always will be" joke :P

I've been spending over an hour trying to beat a level 9 Little Mac on Final Destination with Captain Falcon. Shit hurts man, this fucker is too strong.
