What were your mains in the previous smash games and Smash 3DS?

64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Marth and Mewtwo
Brawl: Marth and Toon Link
Project M: Marth
Smash 3DS: Dark Pit and Zero Suit Samus

64: Pikachu -> Falcon
Melee: Roy -> Marth
Brawl: Pit -> Metaknight
PM: Mewtwo -> Marth
3DS: Sheik

I played Pikachu as a kid because I just loved Pokemon at the time. Coming back to the game recently, I tried to go for Falcon.

Again, I played Roy when I first started. Switched because Marth is just outright better. Same for Brawl; played Pit at release, but later decided Metaknight was most worth trying to learn.

With PM I tried to play Mewtwo, but the game is so close to Melee that it works way better just to play my Melee main and pretend it's Melee.

Sheik seems strong in 4. I don't think she's the best, but I think she's really good. More than that she feels like she has a fast, agile play style that suits how I wish I played. I'll probably switch if she turns out to have really bad matchups against most of the common characters... but I think she does fine against a lot of the early standouts.

Doesn't seem like the KO punch times out.

Btw, someone mentioned here that Dark Pit's forward throw can kill but Pit's can't. I just tested it out on Mario near the ledge of Final Destination. It didn't kill unti 160%. Each throw dealt 10% damage.

Then I tried with Pit. Killed at 160% as well. Tried 150%. Didn't kill. Also dealt 10% damage.
The knockback trajectory was the same.
Both Pits were at 100% btw. (Rage and all)

...I'm gonna check out if they actually do have different moves aside from side b and neutral B. I don't think even Doc has a move that functions exactly the same as Mario.

There's no need, someone already did that

Katakiri said:
So I guess to review, the differences between Pit and Dark Pit are:
  • Dark Pit has less arrow control but stronger arrows (his arrows are not faster or slower)
  • Dark Pit's Side-B does 0.5% more damage and launches at a diagonal angle instead of Pit's directly upward angle
  • Final Smashes
  • Which side of the bed they woke up on

And that's it. A carbon copy clone the likes of which have never been seen in Smash.

What were your mains in the previous smash games and Smash 3DS?

64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Marth and Mewtwo
Brawl: Marth and Toon Link
Project M: Marth
Smash 3DS: Dark Pit and Zero Suit Samus

64: Link
Melee: Roy (and occasionally Mewtwo and Game&Watch)
Brawl: Snake and Olimar (wanted to main Sonic but he was awful)
Smash 4: Mega Man and occasionally Pac Man and Sonic

Anyone else playing with their Mii fighter a lot? Sucks you can't use them for online but I thoroughly enjoy using mine. Trying to get better with Pacman as well, and Shulk seems potentially fun though I'm pretty bad with him.

electroshock arm is also a lot cooler looking and if you want to be a true smash brother, these are the sort of things you must keep in mind when choosing a character

Yeah. Only made a Swordsman but damn he's OP as hell. No wonder they restricted them from online play.

I am loving this game so so much! But man just like when Brawl came out I had a heck of a time adjusting to the new abilities of the new characters. Those extra variables trip me up so much!

Just wait though, I know some of you beat the snot of out me. I'm looking at you Jorge and ... Ness guy.

Though ness I don't have much excuse against though I did realize I was power shielding super duper hyper mega wrong.

Now for the future when we battle, if anyone outright wrecks me I need you to tell me why. Now I use DK and Bowser. They naturally get destroyed by lots of projectiles so that goes without saying. Just give me tips on approach or how you saw through my play style so easily. If you wreck me that bad anyway.

Tips from all challengers are welcome.

And in the future those who battle me, I occasionally like the real Jungle Japes, Yoshi's Island, Pokemon France, Tortimer Island, and Fire Emblem colosseum to name a few. So if people want to battle me don't feel obligated to pick Omega for everything. I still like to have semit competitive matches with no items on Great Fox and the others.

Holy crap that's underwhelming.

I don't really mind too much since the arrows are a big part of their game, but that's just lazy.
Wow, that is indeed underwhelming.

I guess I'll take regular Pit then. Arrow control seems more important than the boost in strength.

Annnnd with Sonic Classic mode done, I have officially beaten Classic mode with everyone at least once! :D

Also... only unlocked 150 custom special moves while doing that. Jesus christ this is going to take foreverrrr.
I still haven't done classic mode with everyone yet lol

hmm if i can remember

64: Yoshi, Kirby
Melee: Yoshi, Samus, mr game and watch, falcon
Brawl: Mr game and watch, Captain falcon, Snake(RIP), Ice Climbers(RIP)
3DS: Mr game and watch, Captain Falcon, Yoshi

trying to play more as DK, Dr Mario, Kirby and a counter character :P if you can't beat them, join them

64: Didn't play.
Melee: I was a kid who played everyone but Ness. Didn't understand his recovery.
Brawl: Olimar with a bit of Marth.
3DS: Lucina because I'm a stubborn person who won't switch.

I can't do a thing against people online anymore. How are Marth/Lucina players approaching anyone? Short-hop forward air has lag now, and normal forward air puts you into perfect shield-and-grab range. Neutral air seems near useless since you can't even get the second hitbox out if you hop too short. Down air has a TON of ending lag, as well as what seems to be a smaller hitbox than before? Tried doing the slow and planned walking approach, but everyone else is so quick that doesn't really work.

I said I would use Lucina for this game, and I am, but it feels like a losing battle half the time.

64: Never really played it to an extent where I recognized a 'main', but I liked Samus the most.
Melee: Marth and Sheik
Brawl: Pit (didn't really play Brawl enough to learn much of the characters, though)
Project M: Samus
Smash 4: Robin, Jigglypuff, experimenting with Palutena

As someone who played KI;U a significant amount of time, the primary weapons matter more to me. Dark Pit uses a piddly Silver bow, the baseline bow in the game, while Pit gets a Palutena bow. The difference is the Palutena bow is gold and gets the additional light rings on Pit's wrist. The gold spinning blade aerials are just so much cooler

Does anyone know how long the trophy shop takes to update to new trophies? I know its a few times per day, but am interested in a more exact time.

Man, Final Destination is one of the worst things to happen to Smash. Why people think a big flat stage if "fair" for all the characters is beyond me.

This just makes my preference for Dark Pit's moves even more confusing, especially when I just don't find Pit quite as good, my mind reels.

But this is also a very valid point, dislike the choice of Arm for Pit, Electroshock arm is like a million times more awesome.

Yoshi is a joy to play in this game. Everything about him is so punchy, so snappy. Cutest he's been since Yoshi's Story, as well. :-)

I know it updates after every classic run, so you probably just have to do a mode and then check back in.

It's not. Every competitive opinion you saw when Omega stages were introduced weren't all too positive. Mostly because FD is apparently a counter-pick.

What's the deal with custom parts? I should have tons of 'em, but when I go to the equip menu only a handful are available.

What were your mains in the previous smash games and Smash 3DS?

64: DK/Mario/Link
Melee: Luigi/Dr. Mario/Captain Falcon
Brawl: DK//Wario/DDD
Smash 3DS: Meta Knight/DK/Rosalina (for now)

Only Luigi and 64/Brawl DK are what I would call my best characters in those games as I tend to cycle the roster a lot.

On an unrelated note, Captain Falcon just bodied 9.0 Master Core. Dat knee.

(Disclaimer: I'm bad at this game and I haven't played much of either Marth in it.)

Aerials approaches are going to be rough. With forward air though, you want to do the move as soon as you short hop most of the time. This will make it end before you land. That way it autocancels when you land, or you can double jump out. Bair also autocancels and I think has a little more range, if you just want to poke.

But it's probably best to approach with grabs. Dash attack mayyyyybe if you space it? In general I'm thinking don't full out approach most of the time. You have to get close enough to make them uncomfortable though, because you don't have a projectile. So probably run in, shield (and spot dodge if you think they'll grab), and try to play keep away and retain stage control. I'm guessing down tilt is still pretty safe? Retreating fair, ftilt, full hop fair if they jump etc. And uair seems like it's a really good move. Get them above you and try not to let them land.

Edit: That got longer and rantier than I hoped. Again, I don't really know what I'm talking about. Hopefully something in there is worth your time to try out.

Brawl: Marth and Toon Link
Project M: Marth
Smash 3DS: Dark Pit and Zero Suit Samus

I always had a lot of characters I enjoy playing as, and end up playing many characters, so I don't really know if they count as mains. But here it is:

64: Link, Fox, Samus
Melee: Roy, Ganondorf, Zelda, Sheik
Brawl: Toon Link, Olimar, Ganondorf, Zelda, Snake, Zero Suit Samus
Smash 4: Pacman, Ganondorf, Zelda, Sheik, Samus, Charizard. I also want to learn Rosalina and DHD.
