So do we know the differences between Pit and Dark Pit yet, Arrows and side b aside?

They feel the EXACT same to me, except DP talks shit so he's better.
I think the main difference is Dark Pit plays more like Brawl than the regular Pit.
Much like Dr. Mario/Mario. My main issue is that I am not a fan of Mario in this game because he relies on combos, so Dr. Mario is a disappointment.

Edit: Fastest way to do versus matches is 1 vs. 1, one stock, and go suicide. Some stages can suicide faster than others.

Any tips for defending against Little Mac on omega stages? I got nothing. Keep getting destroyed in For Glory, can't fight him close up and he closes distances so quickly.

Stay close to edges, keep your ground and kick his ass to oblivions every time he's airbone.

The more important differences to discuss are those between Final Destination and Omega Final Destination.

I see a lot of people defending and criticising smash when it comes to its competitive attributes. I won't say anything because, beyond playing melee in late middle school a crap ton, I haven't ever bothered much with smash.

Having said that, I'm super into fighting games like street fighter and marvel. Also like blazblue and other games. My issue with smash, though, is that it seems too different and it's hard for me to get into because I have no accurate point of reference. I always feel like the mixup and combo system isn't up to snuff compared to what I'm used to, so I always give up.

I know it's not a fair assessment on the game, but I don't know where to start. Smashgaf, are there any good summaries, write ups or glossaries for experienced fighting game players who are approaching smash?

I could use some basics lessons actually similar to Max's basic Assist Me guides. I honestly didn't know tilts existed until I read about it on the internet (to be fair, I never actually owned a Smash game until Brawl)

Also, why doesn't the sound test autoplay?

God, I need some of those, I have a 87% win rate out of 124 matches :-P

Wait around 2AM Japan time. A lot of the players there are so awesome that I get embarrassed like 90% of the time lol. And they aren't even using fast characters like ZSS, Sheik or Greninja.

Shield grab -> gimp -> win. Won't work against decent players who know what they're doing but destroys nooby ones.

Well my Win record just went from 10% trying to have some fun playing with Pikachu and starting every game by taunting to 40% by countering everything with Lucani.

Almost every single move in this game has a ridiculously easy read and every single competitive smasher does the same few combos and movements that each Character specifically has. Doesn't take a genius to quickly catch on and learn to respond. Lucina is an easy counter because she moves fast and because she can counter almost everything.

Just a shame how lame Competitive smash is. Why can't I have fun 1v1 with items where people play for fun instead of a lame super try hard "Roll around for 2 minutes in an attempt to have someone mess up their attempts so you can get one good combo and repeat".

No offense but it sounds like you don't really know competitive smash and not have really played anyone of high skill yet.

Even in the early stages, the game has a much deeper meta game then you perceive.

So after 15 or so matches online, I'd say for the most part it was hit and miss. Had some good periods in there where there was practically no lag at all. And some other periods where it was basically unplayable. I'd say maybe half the time it was in the "acceptable" range though. Certainly not as responsive as offline play, but responsive enough that I at least had an opportunity to react to things.

I learned that ZSS feels almost impossible to approach as Falcon though. I played three people who used ZSS and all of them did this lame paralyzer -> dash combo, but none of the matches had a good enough connection for me to respond in a meaningful way. They never approach, instead just firing the paralyzer until you make a move, and with the crappy connections my only real option is to try and jump over it. But they know that, making it easy to punish my aerial approach.

It helps that most of his attacks are super baitable, as well, so he's one of my favorite characters to fight against as ZSS.

He doesn't. All their normals are the same with the same properties, unlike Mario and Doc.

Cause I'm a bit lazy to type it out having woken up like 1 minute ago.

I just opened my 3ds this morning to play a bit and have noticed a ton of frequent audio bugs.

Music is just cutting out entirely in the middle of fights. I got a star and the music went silent with no star music at all. Master Hand and Crazy Core have no music. Grabbed a hammer, all music went silent.

Anyone else get this?

That sounds really weird, I haven't encountered anything like that at all. Do you have a physical copy?

He's an easy character to lose against if you have no idea what you're doing would be my guess.

The people in that mode aren't necessarily competitive. I'm garbage at Smash in the grand scheme of things and even I found most people in that mode to be free. I have an 85% win rate with Ike, who doesn't have very many options in terms of approach, easily gimped, and is slow.

Also if you're rolling a lot a good player will punish you for it, and if you're opponent is rolling then you should be able to read it after two minutes.

Good spot it would seem weight is another variable. All my Knight's cloak have weight +2, now in the case of the Super Protection badge it seems my best one has weight +2 while rest have weight +1.

I guess stylish boots are a better example +53/-32/-3 vs. +57/-29/-4.
Weight is inversely related to speed. An equipment with better speed will automatically have worse weight. It's not another variable.

Feels bad man :c why all the hate?

He's a character that's hard to deal with early on in the lifespan of the game. His ground game is incredibly overwhelming and a major pain to deal with if you don't know what to expect. He's also surprisingly popular because of that fact. An overwhelmingly tough character that is also very popular leads to a lot of hate.

I personally find him to be a bit like Ike was back in the Brawl launch days. He's got a lot of power, but if you know how to deal with him and exploit his glaring, purposefully created weaknesses, he's manageable. Unfortunately, he's one of those characters where if he's in a battle, you have to completely change up your game plan or get totally destroyed.

Regardless, I personally find him pretty fun to fight and I tend to play melee-centric characters with little to no projectiles. Then again, I don't really care whether I win or lose all that much either as long as I enjoy myself.

Anybody having the music stop in them mid match? It's happening a lot to me. Seems to be when it tries to transition to a new song?

I literally just asked the same thing right above you.

Yes Golnei, I have a physical copy. I haven't turned my 3ds off since Friday morning. Just keep putting it to sleep and leaving Smash running.

Personally? I find either Mac to be a joke or absurdly powerful. For example, if I am using Kirby, he is a joke, 1-2 BAir's off the stage, hes dead. Ike however? I cant even counter quick enough to interrupt his flow, and he just bounces me around like a pinball.

If a Mac is fast enough and reads you well, especially if you're using a slow character, the match can feel really one-sided and hopeless.

Just my 2c anyway. I personally have only come across 1 Mac player who absolutely decimated me, every other time it was a close match, or I decimated them.

Tough ground game that can be borderline OP. His air game sucks, but a lot of people around here prefer to play the final destination version of the levels. So air game is less of a factor.

Don't worry I love Mac. He gave me my high win rate :-)

What's rage?

Out of curiosity, how do you approach ZSS with Mac? Because I could probably do something similar or better with Falcon. I guess his side special might work, I don't remember what the range on it is though.

"Beat 100 Man Smash with every character"

Ahahaha

That's going to take hours to do, some character just aren't set up to kill Miis like that.

The reward is just the best, Shadow the Hedgehog's Trophy. Like seriously

Same here. It's super annoying, hopefully it's patched soon. Speaking of audio...Bowser sounds like butts. What happened to him!? He used to sound so imposing.

I saw some of the third wall challenges that said to do a thing with each character, and just said 'nope'. Not interested this time around. In Melee it wasn't bad, in Brawl it was bearable. Now, there are too many characters for that not to get incredibly redundant.

Would that still get hit with the stun gun, or does raptor boost go under projectiles still?

Ugh...I hate what they did to my boy Falco.

His down air does insane hit stun but has a huge delay once Falco hits the ground. This makes it impossible to combo from it, as you were able to in Melee and Brawl. This was an essential combo starter for him and now it's gone, along with his chain grab.

:(

I keep getting Error 0180516 when I try to join a friend's online game. And I appear offline to him.

We can both play other people, and we've played in the same game when someone else is hosting. Any ideas?

A lot of characters, I have noticed, have high-landing stun with aerials except for maybe 1 move. For example, Charizard, Dedede, and Ike have landing stun with all of their aerials except NAir. I assume Falco's would be BAir or NAir, so just need to be more picky. I am still figuring this out as I go along... and forgetting as well. Lots of unnecessary losses ;[.

Hmm, I wonder if this bug is replicable in the digital version as well (which I own). I haven't had any issues with the game (including crashes) in the 17 hours total that I've had the game on for so far.

The side special is probably one of the worst moves to approach her with since it's one of the easier ones to avoid and punish (IMO). People abuse it way too much. I don't remember if it can be stopped by a fully charged paralyzer shot or not (which would be tricky to pull off), but it can at least break through it at any time before then.

I meant Mac's. Raptor Boost doesn't go far enough. Mac's probably doesn't either though.

I guess I could try to time it right between shots to get through (I don't even remember if it dodges projectiles because I generally avoid using it).

You have to be very patient. People will always want to hug a ledge when going up against Little Mac, so I'll just stay mid and wait for them to react. Nine times out of ten people will get bored of the standoff and go in for an attack, then you punish them.

You also need to bait people into defending themselves with shield or ground dodge. Little Mac is a very fast character, so don't be afraid to run in and back off last second. This'll prompt some type of reaction, and if you learn to lead them into a shield you can quickly grab them.

Can also roll around in front of them to get them to react how you want them to. Just don't roll behind them much or they can punish you with a down smash.

Honestly think Little Mac might be my favorite right now. It's mind games with him, and see who can let their guard down for a split second. Mac does so much damage so fast that that time window is just enough for me to do my thing.

Edit: Should note my percentage in For Glory went from mid 30s to high 60s cause of him. Just adding if you were curios.

Glad I'm not the only one hating on Mac. Fuck that dude. His ground game is stupid. Sure "just get him offer stage hurrrr". Yeah, it's not that simple. You have a fast character, that can do heavy character damage. Plus he's got a counter and super armor. If you're not careful, before you know it, your ass is at 60%. He can easily kill you at that level of damage. Oh and he has a goddamn super meter too and a move that is basically insta-kill as well. .

Plain dumb.
