Random musings:

- Zero Suit Samus is incredible. Her running dash, with the "whoosh" sound effect as you rocket through people, is a great opener for aerial combos, like her eight-hit Boost Kick with its sideways-launching finisher. Her paralyzer can immobilize people mid-air as they try to recover offstage, or open them up for combos on-stage. Her down smash, if you time it right, also immobilizes. Her down special can bury people when it connects; connecting with it is hard, but either way it's a good mix-up option for getting behind a foe, and you can attack mid-flip. Her down aerial spikes opponents and is a quick way to get back to the stage. Everything about her is swift and hard-hitting. And she looks great in the orange workout apparel. I feel like dusting off the GBA to replay Zero Mission, lol.

- ...that being said, I need to slow down when using her. I have like a 35-40% win ratio in For Glory, and many of my losses are me self-destructing when I use her down aerial off-stage and miss the ledge, or when I try to tether-recover too early. I'll string 10 combos together and it'll look beautiful and then I'll throw myself into the abyss while my opponent stares on bewildered, lol.

- Speaking of online, it seems everyone is either Little Mac or a handful of Melee favorites (Marth, Fox, Falco, Sheik), with a sprinkling of Greninja and the occasional Pac-Man. When it comes to Little Mac, I either destroy them or they destroy me -- there's no middle-ground with those players! There was a Shulk that gave me quite a bit of trouble, as well -- perhaps karmic retribution for me putting my Xenoblade playthrough on hold right in the final area, lol.

- Lucina feels like an entirely different character from Marth. And I have no idea why. I think her Shield Breaker animation is different, IIRC. She seems... faster? I thought the only difference would be her damage distribution (the entire sword rather than concentrated in the tip), but she just seems easier to handle overall. I've only played her a few times, admittedly.

- I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around Greninja. He seems like he should be the most intuitive character in the world, but he's so "over-animated" (the flipping, stretching, etc) that I always feel like I'm barely in control of him. I love the character, though. Likewise with Palutena: Love her character, but I haven't developed a feel yet for her rhythm as a fighter. All of my approaches with her feel disjointed and piecemeal. I'm not sure how to follow up with many of her moves, which often feel "one and done."

- That being said, I believe the above characters are perfectly capable. ALL of the characters seem capable. That includes Ganondorf. In Spectate, I watched this Ganondorf go against Sheik in 1v1 For Glory, and while Sheik ultimately won, it was close, and what was remarkable was the difference in strategy -- Sheik attempted to constantly needle and rushdown Ganondorf, but Ganondorf kept bubbling up and slowly approaching, biding his time until he got in a huge punch or kick that leveled the playing field in one or two hits. A skilled Ganondorf player is amazing to watch.

- Bowser Jr. is the most adorable thing.

- Smash Run is a LOT OF FUN! Many people say the final battle is anticlimactic, but I see Smash Run as more about the journey rather than the destination. It's an addictive way to grind for loot like coins, trophies and custom parts. And I love seeing all of these enemies, from all of these different series, together in one place like this. The maze itself is gorgeous, and the events and random enemy layouts keep it all fresh. And I think it's neat how the stat boosts can tip the scales in that final confrontation, but they by no means make it free.

I'm having so much fun with this game. I made this an extended weekend and have already put something like 19 hours into the game, which is probably unprecedented for me. This is the real deal. Everything feels so complete -- even the roster with its known cuts. Sakurai really nailed it out of the park with this one.

Yea, you damn decent dude, we both ended with 13 kills each, would definitely like to play your Mario more

Mario cried, people died.

Mario had much use in the demo but as you've seen, I'm still hopping around characters for the moment.

But Ganon is going straight into the gutter trash. Was it lagging alot for you at all?

MagicMan, once you're done in your FG spree, wanna duke it out? I'm really hoping it's not my internet causing problems cause by all means the speed should be sufficient and gf wasn't netflixing or anything.

Zero Suit Samus is amazing in this game. She was OK in Brawl, but in this game she's practically an all-new character.

This is my first SSB so I can not compare but with all the chars I have tried she is my top pick atm. I really love her special attacks and her "drop down" A - Aoe :D

But maybe I just suck and need to practise more :o

This is probably the first time I've really enjoyed using Link in a Smash game. He feels a little laggy and I'm not that big on the new Spin Attack, but his moves feel great otherwise. Love the new dash attack!

And I'm Neiteio in that Smash Run is super addictive. Can't get enough of it!

The Zapdos trophy entry talks about how many kids, after seeing the second Pokémon movie, would look up at storm clouds in awe and wonder if Zapdos is real. It proceeds to say such a notion may be "innocent and childish," but those same kids, now adults, probably feel nostalgic whenever they hear thunder... or something to that effect. Point being, another fourth-wall-breaking, anime-referencing Pokémon entry.

Yea, its p2p, so if you're lagging I'm lagging, unlike the Mario kart sorcery

ZSS was fun in Brawl, too, but for this game they've really powered her up. All of her moves feel like they hit twice as fast and twice as hard. When I first got the game, I tried every character in order of the roster, and when I got to ZSS, I was like, "Wow!!"

I also said "Wow!!" at how great Brinstar looks in 3D. Same for Mushroomy Kingdom and Jungle Japes. They feel like brand-new stages on the 3DS screen.

1418-6770-4001 if anyone wants to join.

I'm hosting a room at the moment, I want to see if the connection is gonna be as bleh as vs MonsterZero. T_T

EDIT : Also I really wish Omega Mode would just turn off items by default instead of having to go switch them and forget to switch back on when I want to play on default stages.

I've been very conscious to not treat my stick roughly, but sometimes I forgot in the midst of intense online play. It still works perfectly though :) hope those stick incidents are more isolated!

Btw I love Lucinaaaaa.

Done a lot of online battling with friends and others. Focusing on completing the second page of challenges.
StreetSmash will be getting the Golden Hammer.

So what does it mean when playing online someone has a square reticule around them through the whole match?
Salty player that switched out controlled by the CPU?

Thanks god the online seems to be working in 1vs1 for glory. Havent got many lag fightings this time, and Ive played like 2 hours winning people left and right.
Little Mac is a beast, althouygh when I won the first time if the guy I played agaisnt stayed I usually changed to Peach.
Poor Peach, she never has been the same since the melee days, at least her ass bumb is better now, still she has zero power to smash people out of the stage, not even with air left or right smash (I dont think she even uses the crown right now? It wouldnt surprise me if that was a 3DS limitation). Still I won a couple of matches using her.
