Now that I have the game I really want to get my hands on a New 3DS. I feel like I'm spending my time playing on the inferior model. 2015 can't come soon enough.

Also GUYS! I'm downloading the game as we speak, add me!! I'd love to play smash with you all.

PM me if you add me!

Just got my copy!

If you do the requirements of a challenge from a board you haven't unlocked yet, do does challenges pop as soon as you get that board? Or do you have to meet the requirements again?

The unlocks seem kinda random. I went straight to Classic mode and played it a bunch, unlocked Ganondorf first, then Falco, then Dark Pit, then Ness.

They sure do. I only played two regular matches against a couple of CPUs and unlocked Falco after the first one (even though I quit midway through) and Ness after the second.

I can't imagine how the Ice Climbers are that much more taxing for the hardware than Rosalina and Luma, who technically operate as two separate characters in battle. Oh well.
I'm not real knowledgeable on game programming, but I don't see how Rosalina isn't as taxing as the Ice Climbers, when the climbers are identical while the other two are completely different.
I'm not going to go into detail, but let me just assure you that Sakurai isn't making up random excuses or anything. Ice Climbers are far, far more stressful on the CPU than Rosie.

I got almost 2500 feet in Home Run Contest with Ganondorf. I thought for a second they made it easier in the US version, but then I realized the Japanese game uses meters...

Lol Mega Man vs Master Core... I see the tradition of Metal Blade being OP as hell has carried on. Barely got a scratch at 8.5.
Sucks that I get decimated against everything else with Megs :-(

...please tell me this guy has a different moveset or something. This is literally just a pallet swap as a different character if not. They even have the same voice!

Differences we know of: Final Smash, Side B (armor, sends at a diagonal angle, different object on his arm), Neutral B is slower and less arcable but does slightly more damage/knockback, and I think his Up B is slower or something? The differences are very minimal as far as I know. We don't even know if his A moves have any property differences (though I imagine we'll be finding that out soon now that more people have the game).

Was running late for work this morning and forgot my 3DS on the counter T_T. No smash for me until after work...

He has a different final smash, and I believe that some of his A attacks are from Pit's Brawl moveset.

Yeah I'm not sure what compelled Sakurai to put this in aside from a little bias. Moveset and design doesn't seem that far off from the regular character to warrant a separate character slot. Dr. Mario is similar to Mario but he's already an established franchise, so it makes sense.

They are not from Pit's Brawl move set. He has the exact same A moves as Pit. We don't know if there are any property differences in them like Dr. Mario to Mario.

Theory is: Lucina, Doc, and Dark Pit were all originally alternate costumes until they were nearing the end of production and running out of time. They were sitting at 45 characters and decided to change those alternate costumes into full characters. They had the models already done so no we couldn't have gotten other clones instead, the main thing was their models were done and they could use animations from the existing characters.

They are bonuses. If they opted not to make them full characters then we would have had less characters. There's no, "if we didn't get Dark Pit we could have gotten Ridley!" It was literally Dark Pit or nothing.

Other than the possibility of it being the same voice actor doing different voices, they definitely do not have the same voice. It sounds to me like they both have their voices from Kid Icarus: Uprising (I know Pit does). Which is to say, they're quite different. Dark Pit's is considerably deeper.

He's a clone... also, they had the same voice actor in KI:U, so it's fine.

Correct. The dev time to make them was drastically less than a brand new character. They didn't replace anyone.

If I get a decent break tomorrow I'm gonna go buy this so I can play it after work.
Otherwise I'm getting up nice and early Sunday to go shopping.

Anyone have the best tip for trophy hoarding? Still need R.O.B.

You could use the home menu trick for the roulette wheel (Hit the home button, and it pauses the roulette wheel, when you see the prize you want coming up next hold A as you resume the game and you're guaranteed to land on that prize) to choose a high number of trophies I suppose.

Cant wait for that soundtrack. Gah, I just have to wait for the wii u veraion. Game is so great.

Also, dont know if its ok to ask. But has the soundtrack been ripped yet?

Is there no 100% confirmed unlock list with methods yet?
Thought there was a strategy guide that came out?

Wouldn't mind grabbing some characters through other means rather than just grinding Smash Matches.

I can't imagine how the Ice Climbers are that much more taxing for the hardware than Rosalina and Luma, who technically operate as two separate characters in battle. Oh well.

Nana is a fully independent character from Popo and Luma is just a tiny guy with zero AI. Nana has her own AI like she's a CPU whenever she gets separated from Popo. Her model is also fairly detailed and they need to account for the possibility of 4 Ice Climbers (which gets doubled to 8 characters because there's two of them) in a single match + items on (which some items run at 30 FPS already) + the AI for each Nana when they get separated.

Nana has to navigate the stages, pathfinding, react to what other characters are doing to her, attack, shield, etc etc. Luma does none of those things. Luma doesn't have his own AI, he is completely controlled by the player. He only gravitates back to Rosalina at a certain time and does not account for terrain that is in the way and will get stuck -- he does not actively adjust his route to get back to Rosalina. In other words, Luma is not only simpler in model but also lacks any AI the 3DS has to process and etc.

RosaLuma is not a good argument for the ICs being possible on the 3DS. I just wanted to clear this up again because we had this discussion already in a separate thread and when the Japanese release happened >_>

Do we know how many trophies there are total yet? I've herd rumblings of something like 686, but I have no idea if that's true.

Trophy Rush all day. 900 gold = two minutes and 30 seconds. Once you get good at it you'll be able to get 26-34 trophies each run (though you will get repeats sometimes, of course). I've found Ness and Jigglypuff to be the best Trophy Rush characters, but your mileage may vary depending on your play style.

FINALLY!!!

Downloading the game, man Australia.....

We get the New 3DS first and then Smash Bros last, even when we win we still lose.

Loving it, but I am going to need some kind of handgrip for the XL. Playing for more than an hour kills my hands. Going to search locally this morning to see if anyone carries them, and hit up Amazon if not.
