Super Smash Bros. for 3DS |OT2| Nintendo All-Stars Battle Quarter Pounder

I just purchased this despite knowing nothing about Smash due to my own inebriation and immediately jumped online. I was getting thrashed by somebody who knows Smash so I decided to pick Falcon. I turned out my first close match and I somehow managed to win it through super knees and falcon punches, then they immediately quit. Overcoming and opponent in such a way and making them rage made me instantly regret dropping fighting games for Dota.

Anyway I just wanted to know the basics of the game. I've so fat I've worked out that you're pretty fucked if you're in the air and the opponents on the ground but beyond that I'm pretty clueless. If you're opponents reaching the +100%s is there a consistent universal way to knock them out or is it always character dependant?

Always character dependent, just gotta figure out what moves have high knockback and work well as kill moves. I will say generally back air is usually a fairly common good one, but it still depends.

Sorry to see I'm not the only one that's been affected by Best Buy's weird decisions (I sincerely doubt their pre-orders were too low for a midnight launch nationwide). I would never have pre-ordered the game from any retailer if it wasn't for the special coin, let alone Best Buy of all places.

If you guys don't end up grabbing another copy later tonight, don't be too bummed-- the hype's just really heavy because of launch. You'll get your hands on the same game as everyone else tomorrow and enjoy it just as much. At least you're getting a prize for your troubles!

They better have the coins too. Not getting at midnight gotta be worth something.

They didn't do a midnight for the Wii U either. Hoping the Gamestop I preordered the Wii U version at does midnight launch.

Looking through this google doc makes me realize how much more I know users by their avatars than their user names. Makes me feel even worse about mine right now. Anyway still addin folk and will continue to look for avatars hah.

Does anyone know if For Glory mode has a leaderboard or anything attached to it?

Also, has Nintendo released a price for the E-Shop version?

Anybody here have experience with Amazon preorders? It is supposedly guaranteed to arrive tomorrow but it hasn't shipped yet. I am considering just canceling it and picking up in a store tomorrow.

Same here. I'm tempted to just cancel it and download digitally at this rate...

Going to bed and setting the alarm for 1145. Will make the wait more bearable and I'll be rested up for a late night of Smash!

I'm sure the eshop will be fine tonight. I remember getting Pokemon just fine when it came out and that game had similar hype levels.

My concern is less about the eShop going down, and more about the download times being really long when everyone gets it at once. I am impatient!

I know you by your old Snake one. I, to, used to have a Snake one. This one:

Us Snake fans need to stick together.

I live in PST time zone(Washington State) - does anyone know when the first second I will be able to download it? :D My fiance and I are quite excited for the game.

I was thinking of going to Walmart and doing the same...except I actually am off tomorrow! Hell I say get it, play a few matches and then go to bed. I'm sure you'll be playing after work tomorrow anyway!

I might just do it, not like I haven't gone to bed real late on a night before work before lol

Should be 9PM PST. Which is awesome since I can play a little before going to bed (assuming their servers cooperate).

Already got to play a couple of matches with our good ol' OricWindstar earlier this afternoon! While it's true that I won both, it's also true that I had the unfair advantage of having played it for two weeks already, and despite that, they weren't blowouts. I expect he'll be regularly beating me after a few days of practice/acclimation. :)

midnight release here in Mexico.

[body is ready intensifying]

Whatever Mexican retailer that is clearly knows who the most hype newcomer is. Awesome. <3

The music in this game is phenomenal. I just plugged it into my car's aux jack while on the road and put the soundtrack on shuffle. So many great songs (Minor Circuit is currently stuck in my head lol).

I've been doing the same thing for the past couple of weeks!

The soundtrack is so good it's ridiculous, which just means the Wii U version's soundtrack is going to open dimensional rifts to other realities it's gonna be so good.

Important question I want everyone who gets the game to answer...

If you recall, when you start the game, you're given one Trophy.

What Trophy did everyone get?

Boom Stomper from Kid Icarus: Uprising.

As of now, I have 554 trophies... I'm getting there. Trophy Rush is really fun, but once you have this many trophies, you only get one or two new ones each (good) run... if you're lucky. :P

So what's the starting unlocked roster?

Every character on the official site minus Lucina and the Mii Fighters. (You have to first create a Mii Fighter in the Custom menu for their slot to appear on the CSS.)

Barely played the game 15 minutes and...well...fuck. I could cry. Was planning on having some sick games at work tomorrow too.

Man, that sucks and I really don't see how this is happening to people. I've put almost 60 hours into Smash 3DS and my Circle Pad feels exactly like it did before I started playing it: fine. I'm starting to wonder if there's a batch of systems out there with especially fragile Circle Pads... I can't believe everyone with a broken Circle Pad is playing the game that violently. Anyway, my condolences. :(

So who is everyone's favorite newcomer? Without playing the full game I think Shulk might be my current favorite since I loved Xenoblade and his B looks interesting.

Mega Man, of course. But because that answer's almost cheating for me by this point, I'll say that besides Mega Man, it's kind of a three-way tie between Palutena, Robin, and Pac-Man.

It's largely dependent on the character you're playing and what moves can KO. Each character has certain moves that can KO and others don't have reliable KO options, you need to figure those moves out on your own (or you can ask people here, like myself, I'm sure we can help you in that regard). I suggest reading up on smash mechanics on www.ssbwiki.com and navigating through there to find out how the game works at a deeper level. You can also always go to www.smashboards.com and try to sift through the subforums to find threads that go into even more detail on match-ups and stuff but I'd recommend starting at ssbwiki for the mechanics and sometimes the wiki even links directly to Smashboards threads anyway. The wiki is easier to navigate, as well.

For videos, I have three suggestions for you to watch:

Wak's Advanced How to Play (it's got a lot of Melee exclusive stuff but there's quite a bit covered in there that is still very relevant to Smash 4 -- you just need to know what's exclusive to Melee and separate that out from what's still possible in Smash 4).

CosmoWright's Melee Introduction video (Although this doesn't follow a specific set order of things there's a lot of good things he talks about in this video that I absolutely recommend you watching, again there's some Melee exclusive stuff but much of the broader terms and explanations do still apply to Smash 4).

Fundamentals of Melee (Again, another Melee-specific video but this one actually details the basics that apply, generally, to all Smash games. If there's anywhere you should start first among these three videos, it's probably this one, then Cosmo's, and then Wak's. But feel free to check them out in any order).

Someone should save this post for the future when more people ask in the future because I'm not going to type it all again lol.

Oh, you can also check out UltraChen's First Attack which covered Super Smash Bros. Melee and goes over some of the basics as well here if you'd prefer that (it's pretty long though BUT it does provide great insight and explains a lot, especially in high level play).

I hope this post helps (and that you see it because the last person who asked about this didn't even respond back to me telling me they're going to check the stuff out D: )

Us Snake fans need to stick together.

Ah yes I remember that. Something told me I needed to add you even with your Indy avatar. Guess it's in our blood.

I hate my current avatar so much.

For those who dont know spanish. SpacePirate Ridley is being generous here. Unplayable.

He is right. Like I sually love good spanish dubs, but this one is that atrocious.

Can;t you change the voice language?

Yes by changing your system language. I still like playing the rest of my games in spanish so having to enter the system menu to change everytime I change a game is a hassle.

Worst of all, I prefer names like Estela to Rosalina, so its not like it is a total perfect change.

Those with past experiences downloading digital, how long does it take on average to download a game?

Probably depends on traffic plus your download speed. On my connection, I downloaded Donkey Kong Country Returns in about 45 minutes (at roughly 17 Mbps). DKCR is just a little bit smaller than Smash Bros. 3DS. Given how popular Smash is, it's likely there will be heavy eshop traffic at midnight, so it'll probably take a bit longer than that to download.

Going to buy it before tomorrow test, I was thinking if I should buy it here in mexico (60$~) or wait to usa.. but man ive put 23 hours in the demo alone, and recently i changed my job so now i have 1 or 2 hours free between school and work some days.

I cant wait for it, need more hype tough!!! someone suggest me a way to get hyped!

Haha, every time I see your avatar I'm like "how dare he!" but then I remember it's you.

I remember dead Snake, to t. But at least that one was subtle.

I hope some of you guys are gonna be streaming when it comes out! I wanna see some english language character unlocking. :P

Listening to the soundtrack to pass time until twitch explodes with streams, it's so good.

At least in the demo it does.

Well that's something at least. Hopefully the Wii U version will let you switch languages whenever you want, like Melee (and maybe Brawl?).

It's different for every character. Some will dominate in the air, while others are kings on the ground (see: Little Mac). I suggest trying every character, on your way down from Mario to Sonic I'm sure you'll notice how vastly different some fighters can get, especially so for the newcomers this time around.
