Of course. I don't advertise my irrationality. I never try to convince someone of something they specifically don't WANT to agree with. It's why I don't get into debates with tea partiers

Are you seriously comparing me to a Tea Partier for not liking a video-game?

Who cares what other people think of it? If it did nothing for you, that's totally fine. But trying to dismiss or generalize people who do like it is silly. They just like a game that you don't -- there's not much more to it. They're not wrong and you're not wrong.

Well, I could ask the same as to why people are getting so mad at me.

I even admitted it was a petty reason, in addition to just not enjoying the gameplay or plot/humor-style.

So my gamestop is actually doing some cool things. At around 9:30 pm tomorrow they will be having a Project M tournament while you wait for the game, that I signed up for. On top of that the first place winner gets a gc controller, second place gets an amiibo, and they are still deciding if they are going to have a price for third place! Pretty awesome, now I have reasons to stay there while waiting, plus them prizes. Should be fun!! Oh and for those that want to battle it online. My friend code: 0619-5648-7368. Feel free to add me and tell me yours or pm me

I'm comparing why I'm not interested in "educating you" on why EarthBound is deep. You have a strong bias against the notion, and I heavily doubt that you would consider it deep, merely dismiss my reasoning as "pseudo-intellectual tripe"

I think people are upset with the reason that you don't like it, rather than you simply disliking it. But it's cool if you don't! I love it but not everyone has to.

I talked to them too! No dice. Wal mart had the game that I bought and paid for online. With my name ready for store pick up but the computer wouldn't give it to me.

Looks like we know now that even the computers in the back will restrict a sale.
Thought that wasn't the case.

Yep this is exactly what happened to me today at Walmart. I was less than a foot away from smash but the computer wouldn't let the transaction complete. A manager came over and I tried to convince the guy but they wouldn't budge.

I always wonder why they don't do this more often. Seems a really good way to wait for a release.

No! Seriously, I'd be interested.

I'm just saying what bugged me is I've commonly seen the notion that enjoying Mother somehow made you more intelligent, it may be a deep game, I just don't think that necessarily means it's a game for intellectuals only or that by playing it you're better than the rest of the Nintendo fans.

Worst part is, I'm conducting History research during Saturday and will be back in the evening.

If you're around, I'd love to play. :3

I will be playing literally all day. Evening it is.

Speaking of which,I need to get y'alls friend codes.

Mine is on my GAF profile.

Are there a lot of people who say stuff like that? The deepest Earthbound gets is having you go into a rock vagina to fight a fetus at the end... If that's deep. The reason I like it is because of the jokes, and how weird it is. Nothing about it struck me as profound or meaningful.

Anyway, do we have unlock criteria for all the characters yet that isn't "Play VS mode XXX times"?

I'll be playing all Saturday Australia time. Will probably stay up all night too, so I may align with someone at some point!

My circle pad may still be broken.

Update on my Amazon pre-order:

Okay, so it still hadn't dispatched yet (I'm in the US and pre-ordered it in July with Amazon Prime 2-day shipping). I just got off of a Live Chat with customer service and he told me (the customer service rep) that my delivery was going to arrive on Sunday, Oct. 5 even though I was told yesterday it would ship today and arrive on Friday. So, I said to the rep my pre-order says I should have it guaranteed by Friday at 8 PM.

He tells me about the same thing again and I ask if there's been some kind of delay with the shipping and he merely said that the game releases Friday and that's when it would ship at its current shipping speed (which is kind of stupid when in the past I've pre-ordered games with Prime 2-day shipping and got it either the day after release or day of release at night).

So, I ask if I want it on Friday if I'd have to change the shipping speed to one-day shipping and he basically confirms as much. I questioned him if that'd increase the cost (because I'd be going from Amazon Prime free 2-day shipping to one-day which isn't free) and he said he'd expedite it for me at no additional cost for being such a loyal customer and everything.

Of course, I accepted it and so now my shipping speed is one-day shipping and he assured me it'd be guaranteed to be delivered by Friday. I'm basically crossing my fingers that the status will change within the next 24 hours.

This is like the second time Amazon's done this to me this year with a pre-ordered game a few months in advance. Next time I have Amazon credit I want to use on a game, I'm going to pre-order it a week before release and not months in advance so that there will be a more accurate shipping date and things may actually ship when they're supposed to. :|

If you are legitimately interested in why people hold it to such regard, maybe you should start by reading/watching some reviews. I recommend starting here for a shorter and lighter take on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iolLKGbbTrM

Sorry to the people who had issues with pre-orders. I had them before, so I know the feeling.
I also put my Friend Code on my profile. Looking forward to playing with ya on For Fun.

Typically, if I'm getting release-date delivery they won't ship the game until the night before, and then overnight it so that you don't get it early.

Did the game say it was offering release-date delivery when you pre-ordered it?

I'll try to explain, if you like. It's only what I think though. Others may feel differently.

At the time, most RPGs had medieval, fantastical settings in which characters wielded swords and such. EarthBound is set in a place very similar to modern America, with characters that use baseball bats and frying pans. It's easy to take this for granted nowadays because these kinds of things are so varied, but back then, no one made games like that. It was super weird and super bold. Also in contrast to other games of the time, the writing was funny and often parodied a variety of things. Again, games just didn't do that really, and it was odd and endearing. (Notice how often the notion of EarthBound being "weird" comes up. I think that's one of the most perfect words to describe it.)

The writing is also incredibly genuine and heartfelt. It can be silly in one moment and poignant the next. Its tone has a variety that isn't very common. For example, your dad cracks jokes over the phone for a bit and then ends saying how he hopes for the best and that he believes in you. That kind of spontaneity and change in tone during conversation is rare in games, especially when EarthBound was released. Like I said, it feels very genuine.

EarthBound is fun and heartwarming at the same time. I think that resonates with a lot of people. But I'm certainly not better than anyone who doesn't like it and I'm not sure where that notion comes from.

Nahh, it didn't offer release-date delivery so I went with Amazon prime 2-day shipping and the date it gave me was "Guaranteed by October 3, 2014" back in July. It updated to say Friday at 8 PM more recently but it hadn't shipped yet.

Some other people in this thread had the same shipping speed as me and their status for their order already changed to being shipped while mine hadn't yet so that's why I went to contact Amazon about it.

Excellent, first friendly match with GAF!

PM me your code, I'll add it to my 3DS tomorrow, I'm in bed right now. My code is in my profile. :)

Look at this shit, Rosalina has been slanted to make the Luma be upright, showing who the superior character is.

Luma > Rosalina

Mine hasn't shipped yet either, it updated to say "Preparing for shipment" and they charged me.

I just contacted customer service and they informed me my order was on track and would be here by October 3rd as guaranteed. I also ordered mine a few months ago with Prime 2-day shipping. Hopefully your customer service rep didn't feed you some lies and charge you for shipping you didn't need to pay for.

Well, the customer service rep actually changed it to one-day shipping free of charge. :P (Meaning, I don't have to pay the extra money for the one-day shipping like I would have if I changed it myself).

Mine hasn't been charged yet to say it's preparing to ship... so... that's why I'm still slightly concerned. :/

Oh shit, I used one of those golden hammers in the landmarks without knowing what it does. I guess I'll forever have that grey hammer of shame there now :-(

ShopTo dispatched my copy on Tuesday!

Shame they waited until 10pm to do it though, but I'm still likely going to get it on Thursday!

Is it weird that I'm literally freaking out about who to play first?

Do I go back to my Melee/64 roots and go Fox? Do I go brawl and hope Olimar carries over? What about a new comer?

This day will never end.

Earthbound is my favorite game of all time, but I never once thought that me enjoying it made me more intellectual or profound than other people. I've never even heard of that. I spend a lot of time at Starmen.net, and I haven't met anyone there who thinks they're better than those who "don't get" Earthbound. Hell, I don't even think Earthbound is THAT deep. I do think its got some pretty dark moments for a "kid's game" and a few deep elements, but nothing to spend hours upon our debating and thinking about. If you're really interested in theories or examples on why people may think it's such a deep game, here are a few links.

But of course, if Earthbound just isn't your cup of tea, that's fine. You can't force anyone to like something and you can't force yourself to like something either when you don't. It might just make you dislike it even more.

Mine hasn't shipped yet either. I'm still hanging on "Pre-ordered
Guaranteed delivery by: Friday, October 3, 2014 by 8pm". Ordered it on the 29th and selected "Release Date Delivery". No preparing. Nothin'.

The decisive question: Does it matter? Did you already pick your first character when you played the demo?
