This is essentially my opinion. Adding modeled alt costumes for characters who didn't receive them would be a nice addition to DLC packs.

It's not part of Project M, just a regular Brawl mod. Still looks pretty good, though.

What the fuck is link doing in row 3, column 3?

I think clones are basically characters who would never get in otherwise, for the most part. For instance, Sakurai didn't make Wario a clone in Melee because he thought Wario was too good for that. I'm thinking Dark Samus is the same scenario, where Sakurai doesn't want to make Dark Samus just a clone because he might want to make her a character at some point in the series.

Probably. Don't forget this is the franchise were Ganondorf is based on Captain Falcon though!
Indeed!

On the topic of Young Link, I've been replaying OoT 3D lately, and I have such fondness for Young Link in that game. Of course, that same Link is the hero of Majora's Mask, which is my favorite Zelda.

Dark Samus would have been fine enough as a clone. I'd take clone Dark Samus over Dark Pit any day. I mean, sure, Dark Samus deserves better, but it's not like she's ever going to get a chance to get in Smash Bros. again, so, what the hell, I'd take what I could have gotten.

Alph would have been a better clone than Dark Pit too.

I should go dig up my list of "clones that would have been better choices than a palette swap Pit."

Looks like a Screen KO.

Which is why I don't mind Lucina and Falco as clones; and would welcome additions like Viridi, Isabelle, Brittany and Dunban through DLC so long as they were accompanied by unique newcomers. Including Dark Samus and Impa as clones would create another Ganondorf situation that would constrain their potential in all future games.

Trying to argue that Dr. Mario is any better than Dark Pit is silly. In fact, Dark Pit is probably more popular than Dr. Mario.

Dr. Mario is the figurehead of an iconic puzzle game series that has been around since 1990. He has earned his stripes. Dark Pit is a doppelganger of Pit that has a minor role in a game that barely sold over a million units worldwide. But that's okay, because Sakurai created him!

Why wouldn't she? She's easily the most likely Metroid rep to become a character with the exception of maybe Ridley. If Metroid ever were to get a third rep, her being that is pretty good odds.

That's why I want him back.

Preferably with a new moveset than incorporates the masks from MM, but if we get him at all, we're getting Melee Young Link

Hahaha Ganondorf.

I right now finally finished Kid Icarus: Uprising, just in time for Smash. I'm now even more pumped to try out Pit, Palutena, and, yes, even Dark Pit.

Here's an idea: Three AOC packs (Add-On Content).

Where characters are concerned: Three all-original newcomers, three clone newcomers, three returning veterans.

AOC Pack #1: Captain Toad (all-new), Dry Bowser (clone), and Mewtwo (veteran)

AOC Pack #2: Dixie Kong (all-new), Toon Zelda (clone), and Lucas (veteran)

AOC Pack #3: Inklings (all-new), Isabelle (clone), and Wolf (veteran)

Nice mix of bringing back the old and promoting the new (Treasure Tracker, Tropical Freeze, Splatoon, etc).

I don't want Sakurai to make more clones or palette swaps. Project M team is better at it, let them take care of it. Let Sakurai focus on real additions to the roster.

I hope Wii U gets hacked soon so the team can start experimenting.

The Metroid Prime series is done, Dark Samus has no real place in the series going forward. Sakurai isn't really big on adding tertiary characters to established series that haven't appeared in many years. Dark Samus for SSB5/6 is going to be like King K. Rool's situation for SSB4, but with less of a leg to stand on, as Dark Samus is from two games in a side series that isn't considered mainline Metroid in Japan. The dream is dead.

Do you want Nintendo to emulate Sony and add glorified advertisements to their crossover fighting game instead of characters like Crash, Spyro, and Lara Croft? Because I sure don't.

Do we really know that the Metroid Prime series is done though? It's only been one generation, and we know there are ideas for both a new 2d and 3d Metroid game. I really think that her not being in the one game that's been released since Prime means she has no chance at being in a future installment.
Plus, compared to King K. Rool, she's already gotten more representation.

Even if the Prime series continues onwards, the story was concluded in Prime 3 by Retro's own admission and a continuation will almost certainly be something completely new.

They're not glorified advertisements. They're iconic characters that happen to coincide with new games.

- Captain Toad embodies the Toad concept. He earned his stripes in the Galaxy games and 3D World. Now he has his own title in Treasure Tracker. Have him running around swinging the pickaxe power-up, speeding forward in his mine-cart throwing turnips, etc.

- Dixie Kong is a classic DKC character. She is relevant again after Tropical Freeze.

- Inklings are new and making their debut with Splatoon, but they already feel like classic Nintendo characters, and they're made by EAD, so they're legit Nintendo.

Isabelle, of course, is hugely popular. So is Toon Zelda. Both Isabelle and Toon Zelda are in that New 3DS promo. The Phantom Guardian would feel more appropriate with Toon Zelda since it's from Spirit Tracks, anyways.

Dry Bowser is the only bit that's purely fan service. I just like the idea of him as a variant of Bowser that could allow them to explore a permutation of Bowser's move-set, and with an audiovisually appealing form factor. :-)

The problem was that the characters they included who mainly did that weren't even their own. Also your analogy fails because Nintendo already has their Crash, Spyro, and Lara Croft represented.

In this case, this would be characters like Dixie and Toad. Not sure why you're getting so upset.

Rarely do I feel a game is nailed perfectly, where I feel completely satisfied when it's done.

That is one of those games.

The only other one on that list is Bayonetta.
Kid Icarus Uprising is basically Nintendo's Bayonetta, in terms of being a content-packed, over-the-top action extravaganza that is like a saga onto itself.

My only problem with the recent Captain Toad love is that if a Toad was made playable for Smash, I'd like it if the character played up every aspect of playable Toad(s) since SMB2. I don't know how the logistics would work but incorporating the SMB2/Super Mario 3D World lifting and sprinting (hell maybe even give him a cat suit special because cat suit Toad is adorbs), Wario's Woods bomb chucking and the star faring, treasure tracking Captain Toad would be much more appealing.

At least to me. :P

Edit: I wouldn't mind if Smash treated DLC as expansions based on current Nintendo things. I've said as much before but if they go that direction, it'd be pretty cool to see Smash as something representing the current era of Nintendo versus something that's a time capsule of the last generation + some exceptions.

Isabelle, Toon Zelda, Dixie and Captain Toad are all sufficiently established, but while the Inklings would fit perfectly in Smash, I'd much rather they wait for the next game to insert them: not only is the IP new enough for it to feel shoehorned, but adding an entirely new franchise to the game only through DLC seems to cheapen its inclusion - I'd rather it be able to get full focus as part of the base game in the next installment.

Though represented series with no characters (Rhythm Heaven, for example) would be a good choice for DLC, especially since they're much more established than Splatoon.

Actually, Treasure Tracker already incorporates the SMB2-style lifting and throwing, right down to the facial expression Toad makes when he struggles to uproot a plant. :-)

You know who fits perfectly as a DLC character? Wonder Red. So much potential.

Only problem will be his alts...coz you know he's...Wonder RED :p

Evil Shin Robot Cyborg Mario would've been a better clone than Dork Spit.

What's up with your "obsession" with Isabelle because lately I have seen your posts that often had Isabelle ever since that New 3DS commercial. :P

I understand that she's popular but remember she's very pacifist so it wouldn't make sense that she would fight. It's possible that I could be wrong but I doubt that she will make in.

Man, this thread really took a dive over the last few days. Seems to be getting a little better, though. Hopefully the 3DS version coming out for everyone else in a couple days will help, too. :P

If there's anything I should be doing with Mega Man, I'll try it if you tell me.

Constantly pressure your opponent and control space with Metal Blades and Crash Bombers. If you're not fighting up-close, you should be using these moves.

Metal Blades do more damage as a thrown item (throw diagonally downward into the ground, pick up, and throw them that way) than they do otherwise. This takes longer to do, though, of course.

Don't just throw out random smashes. All of Mega Man's smashes are powerful but have crazy cooldown time, making them easily punishable. Only use smashes when you're completely sure they'll hit or are completely sure you won't get punished if they don't (which is almost never).

Master Mega Man's air game; it's where he shines. Three of his air moves (forward, back, up) are some of the best in the game, and one of them isn't but is great when you can land it (down). Flame Sword (fair) has a wide range, does decent damage, and is pretty much unpunishable. Slash Claw (bair) does good damage and launches quite a bit but is harder to land. Air Shooter (uair) is great for disrupting your opponent's air game, does good damage, and launches vertically at higher percents, often enough to KO off the top of the screen. Hard Knuckle (dair) isn't as good as it should be as its range is limited, but if you can get good with it, it does have a meteor effect if you land it right next to Mega Man (right as it fires out).

Use Slide and Top Spin (dash) to approach; both are some of the better crouch and dash attacks in the game. Mega Upper (up tilt) is a good kill move but can be punished, so be careful with it.

Don't sleep on regular buster shots. They can rack up damage surprisingly quickly and are great for interrupting your opponent's attacks (they do make opponents flinch) and just generally annoying people and forcing them into doing something that you can punish.

Mega Man's safest smash is Spark Shock (up smash), but that doesn't mean it's safe. Again, be VERY careful when using Mega Man's smashes. You can't just throw them out there like you can with a lot of characters.

Several good combos to try: Down throw -> Mega Upper, down throw -> Flame Sword, Top Spin -> Flame Sword (I love this one, even better if you can catch them with Air Shooters as they try to recover), Slide -> Mega Upper, up throw -> Air Shooter.

I'm still learning and working on my game with him, but I've gotten to the point where I can either usually win or at least only lose by a smidge when I play against random people online.

After seeing the Bowser Jr handling, the Wonderful Ones should be the roster inclusion/title and the color alts be the seven main wonders and Vorkken.

As big of an AC fan as I am, I don't think the series deserves/needs any more playable reps. Villager alone captures almost all of AC (the only important part of his series he doesn't contain is fishing.) Being ATs or part of Villager's FS is the right role for the rest of the AC cast; bumping them up to playable status would be superfluous.

Really, the AC representation in Smash is perfect as it is. The only thing I would like to see is the ability to transfer your own Villager, with his/her clothing, hair. and accessories, from your AC save file into Smash. It's possible with Mii Fighter, so why not with Villager?

I've always liked Isabelle. I've also always had an interest in how Nintendo positions their characters -- kind of like how football fans like to be armchair coaches. :-) So when I thought about all the ways Nintendo has used Isabelle lately, beyond her own franchise, I thought it was interesting. And this, in turn, got me thinking about how perfect she'd be for Smash as a clone of Villager. Just give her lots of facial expressions so she feels true to character, I.E. her panicky face with the sweat-drops when she chops down a tree!
