The thing that sucks is that the Americas are the last timezones.

I guess my point wasn't clear.

I was saying they have finite resources with time, budget, and people. If they had more, we could have less cuts or more newcomers, more stages, more modes, more etc.

Maybe they could have put some of the resources in one thing to another thing is the point I'm trying to make.

And my point with the exponential increase in workload was that their staff didn't increase exponentially in an equal way. They obviously have more staff, but that increase is less than the workload increase.

It is entirely possible, but it's silly to act like it's objectively unreasonable to hold Sakurai to certain expectations - like a return to character-specific BtTs. Where has Sakurai ever discussed how big the team was? We know that the balance team expanded dramatically, so without reason, it's perfectly fine to expect 51 BtT levels. Further, considering how disappointing Brawl's mere five BtTs were considered by fans, it's a really easy assumption to make that Sakurai decided that a return to form w/ BtT was important, or that Event Mode was important. Nothing that discussed the staff size suggested that specific content would be inherently limited. Let's not forget that the same arguments were made earlier by people saying it was unreasonable to expect more than 10 or 12 characters. Look at us now - a health 17 newcomers.

Do I want character-specific BTTs? Of course I do, it was a lot of fun. Do I think it was even remotely possible? Not a chance. It was a pipe dream.

Looking at the game, the only things that are character specific are custom moves, and trophies. Nothing else. They are moving away from character-specific stuff because it is more time-consuming and takes up more resources they can put somewhere else. And frankly, I agree with that line of thought. In the end, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

People were saying it is unreasonable to expect more than 12 newcomers because of the Gematsu leaks, not because people had an idea of how many newcomers they can put. Many people thought there were more, but the vocal "but Gematsu leaks" group pretty much just shut down any discussion of that.

My favorites are FRLG, Emerald, and BW. Only one of those is a third version.
Plus Z would need major, major changes to salvage X and Y's problems.

I wouldn't say campaign is a major problem.

Also FRLG has elements of the third game much like how every remake has. BW actually is pretty sparse as far as campaign goes and your only incentive to replay was to beat E4.

It's been a while since I've been looking forward to a game this much, but Smash is a special series.

Already begun thinking of what characters I want to focus on. And what my Mii should pick for a weapon. So many characters, so little time. Do I go with Zelda? Or Palutena who seems to be cut from the same archetype as Zelda (in her default form)? Lucina might feel comfortable since I did like Marth, and I want to see if Peach is good again. Going to try out Ike, too, although he's mostly for fun and hitting things with a big sword. And I'm sure more characters will be interesting once I've given them a try. Mega Man, Pac-Man Little Mac, Duck Hunt, and so many more... I wonder who's going to be my surprise favorite like Marth and Peach in Melee and Lucas in Brawl. Duck Hunt could be it, but I can't say in advance.

But most of all, I look forward to getting access to the controls menu. The demo is fun and all, but I just can't make those default controls work for me. Especially L for grab. No. L is shield. L has always been shield. R is grab. Well, Z is grab, but I'm no letter-ist. Right index finger button is grab. And why is A not jump? Button-right and Button-up are supposed to be jump. Button-left is special, Button-down/middle is attack. I'm sorry, but that's my muscle memory speaking, it's difficult to overwrite it for Smash now.

Going to be so nice to rebind all of that.

Doubt we'll see anything on a big scale.
Majority of early buys in the US are always mom and pop stores or knowing someone who can get by with giving you a copy.
I got mk8 early in sears here in Miami, I didn't know anyone, they just were not aware of street date and had it on display, that's why I'm asking

That had nothing to do with Gematsu, that kind of talk was pre-Gematsu - it was because of when Sakurai suggested that we may not get as many newcomers as we did with Brawl. It caused people to say that we were getting only a pittance, and that it was due to the increased difficulty of increasing the roster to greater and greater heights.

As for BtT, that is entirely speculative. It makes sense that we wouldn't have 51 entirely different stages in the 3DS version, as the 3DS version is probably so completely and utterly packed with as much content as Sakurai could fit on the poor little thing. Relative to unique BtT stages, custom moves seem like a really simple thing. With the Wii U's processing power, we don't have to worry about space constraints. Further, if I recall, you can't get custom moves in the Wii U version, so do you think that Sakurai wouldn't replace it with something?

I feel like I should try my luck at getting an early tomorrow. I've managed to get games a day early so might as well try even earlier than that lol.

It still bothers me. Then again people call her Lucy so it makes sense.

Is that a problem?

I wish Amazon would start dispatching already but I feel it won't happen until Thursday... ;~;

I've been pre-ordering all my games on Amazon for a while now, and I'm not going to lie I've been hoping to get an early shipment one of these times. I hear about it online a lot but it hasn't happened to me yet.

Custom moves were first shown on the WiiU version, what makes people believe they're not in there?

The perception is not that they are absent, but that they are not something you can obtain directly from playing the Wii U version. I believe it sprung from the whole Wii U-3DS linking discussions.

I would guess from misinterpretation of this old quote:
Sakurai: It'll be possible, in fact, on the 3DS version there'll be a certain degree of character customization. You can have your own personalized character that you'll then be able to take over and move onto the Wii U version and play.
You could take that to indicate that customization is only done on 3DS, and the Wii U version can't do it unless transferred from 3DS. Obviously the more likely case is that the 3DS just holds personalized data for each player until transferred.

Edit:
In hindsight, this quote is kinda funny:
Kotaku: Should people expect returning characters, should they expect most of their favorites from Brawl to come back?

Sakurai: The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS, so we're forced into a situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree, but we're really working hard to include as many characters as possible.

So OP.... why even have the unlockable stages... and unlockable characters heading with ?'s if you are not going to fill it in well after most of those are known....

I get that spoilers are a thing for people and that is fine but why even have those sections then...

That's very impractical. You're overthinking it.

Nope! I only go by the Japanese name bro.

ルキナ

Learn to love it.

Same here. I always call her Lukina, just cause. :)

Too bad it looks like the NA version won't have dual audio. I've got a psychological issue with Laura Baily's characters. I also have an issue with male Robin, who makes me think instantly of Jin Kisaragi (blazblue) and Palutena, who brings me sad memories of Lightning to mind. For that reason, and others, I'm importing the game alongside the Japanese NEW 3DS next week. :)

Edit: Still getting the English version on Friday though. :D

I call her Lucy at times. Not Loo-see-nah though.

It won't take much to beat me lol. Unless you don't do well against button spammers :D

I'm not very good either ;__;

I've played the other Smash games, but never bothered to learn any strats. What I'd do in Brawl is down spike as Link all the time for cheap wins.

I'm not proud of those moments.

You mean that attack where he does that squatting down stab? Its the best attack yo! :D
Win however you can. Pride on the battlefield are for the samurai.
and that samurai is an assist trophy now so we see where that pride got them :P

That's the spike move in Brawl. That's really hard to pull off on people who know what they're doing though. I never use the move myself. I was a Link main when I first got Brawl, but started playing Ike and Marth more down the years.

Man, an allergy to the best VA sounds like a really tragic fate. :(

Oh tell me about it, man! I can't stress how much I HATE that!

I'm cool with Ike and female Robin though because I don't know who voiced (well, Jason Adkins voiced Ike, but I don't know what else) them and I don't instantly associate them with characters I've disliked in the past.

Is Laura Bailey doing Palutena because thats who it sounds like in her reveal trailer. Or was it someone else. I forgot. I feel like I've asked this before and it was someone else entirely doing Palutena's voice.

Welp :/

I feel like I'm the only person who did not complain that L = grab and R = shield in the demo. For some reason, it felt incredibly natural to me. I might have swapped it in the other games, but I really didn't remember.

Wasn't Z = grab and R = shield in Smash 64? Because that might be the reason.
