Nintendo sure loves Isabelle

I think enough time has passed from New Leaf where Isabelle's popularity is authentic. You can only "force" a character to be popular for so long before people lose interest.

Nintendo never really tried to market any AC character though. I think Tom Nook is awesome because of his darker other side, and Resetti is hilarious in how he lashes at you, but I get it, they are not very "marketable", but K.K. Slider!? Before Isabelle he was loved and admired by everyone alike.

I think that Nintendo simply followed the stats from the AC plaza app in WiiU and concluded she was beyond popular but lets be honest, those online polls are heavily skewed by the "waifu" otaku crowd.

It's a done thing though, I have to deal, but it still sucks for K.K. Hell, even Isabelle is a total fangirl of him.

Hmm, I wonder if the Animal Crossing DLC for Mario Kart 8 is timed to coincide with news about Animal Crossing for WiiU. It is around the time of E3, after all. It'd be similar to how DKCR came out shortly before Tropical Freeze was announced.

Also, I wonder how Amiibo will be used in Animal Crossing WiiU? It seems inevitable there will be Amiibo. Maybe you can acquire specific townspeople by buying their Amiibo, and maybe you can train them to help you run the town, fishing and catching bugs for money and pulling weeds and watering plants. :-D

the real question is: will there be an Animal Crossing U? I keep saying that I don't think so, but I'd love for Nintendo to prove me wrong!

The game is just so convenient on handheld systems. If they do one on the Wii U, I hope is a fully-fleshed sequel with an always online town where you can live with other people (in addition to your regular "offline" town), like in an MMORPG, and not some half-assed game like Animal Crossing: City Folks.

Some time needs to pass before considering something timeless or not :P

I agree that heavyweight space Peach is bland, though. But Isabelle? Nah, she's not a clone or anything. Toadette remains my favorite female, though.

Eh maybe that's true.

And yeah... Its hard for me to think of a good female Nintendo character.

Why Isabelle threads turn weird at some point every single time?
Because people can't just accept that there are nice things and then there are not-so-nice things, and the existence of not-so-nice things don't actually invalidate that nice things are nice. This is why we can't have nice things. Except for me; I can have nice things.

Considering the previous lead characters in the series include a loan shark, a politician, a drifter and a guy with serious anger management issues, there really isn't a better leading person for Animal Crossing than Isabelle.
hey man don't be talking shit about kk slider

Eh maybe that's true.

There's several all through the Fire Emblem series, and most recently Kid Icarus Uprising had a lot of quirky female fun. Ashley Robbins from Another Code, too!

As much as a I like Isabelle and it's nice to see her getting into other stuff, it kinda makes me sad since I always saw Tom Nook as the face/emblem for the series for some reason.

I'm not crazy about Isabelle but sure, she's charming. I just hope they won't forget about K.K. Slider. Dude's cool as hell.

We need the world's best and brightest bio-engineers to make Isabelle and Digby a reality

Also cute -- Copper has a crush?

Well, he's the antagonist of the series...

No no no.
These. These fuckers right here. This is the final boss.

Thank goodness for that Perfect Town ordinance. I seriously couldn't bear to return to Wild World because of the weeds. Months later in ACNL with Perfect Town and there's barely any and my flowers are all still alive.

She's goddamn adorable, and everyone loves her. She's well designed and recognizable. Not sure why Nintendo wouldn't take advantage of those facts. Everyone wants them to create new mascot characters, and guess what? They just did.

Isabelle is adorable and she works as a good mascot for Animal Crossing. Better than the Villager, Tom Nook, Resetti, or pretty much any other character, not only because of her design or personality, but because she is an actual supporting character in a game with a blank slate of a main character and a town full of changing cast or background characters.

K.K. Slider is pretty memorable but I think he is a runner up to Isabelle, even though he was a favorite character in past games. I even listed Isabelle as my favorite in the Animal Crossing Plaza app and it you look at the polls in that app, Isabelle has a landslide victory over every poll with K.K. coming in at a strong, but still distant, 2nd place.

Isabelle has basically become the new Animal Crossing mascot.

I love Isabelle (as my favorite character) too. In fact, I love her so much I adopted a shih tzu on the same month and year where Animal Crossing: New Leaf first launched in Japan. :P

In the game, whenever she walks with you, you can hear the rattle-like sound effects. That was really cute. <3

Will definitely play as her when that Animal Crossing DLC comes out for Mario Kart 8.

But her head is a bell[e]!

There need to be more comics about Isabelle being some kind of psycho stalker of the mayor :D

I find the notion that people can only enjoy playing as - or hell, having them as a favourite character - female characters because of their attractiveness/appeal to be a bit narrow-minded. And creepy.

She was part of what set New Leaf apart from the older games and she's such a charming character good on Nintendo for marketing her a bit more.

In regards to the commentary of her being "the next Rosalina" I don't think that's a bad thing. It's good for there to be visible female lead characters who aren't sexualised or to fit a damsel role. Isabelle is a character who has some responsibility in her respective world and is very likable. Seeing more of her (and Rosalina, I guess) isn't a negative at all.

I don't see how people are keep complaining about how Isabelle fanart make them hate her.

Even when the arts is actually tamer and more beautiful as it mostly emphasized on environment with Isabelle doing her activities here.

One of my favorite example would be this:

I hope Isabelle is buff like the picture below in the next game, kinda like how the eye patch lady in Twin Peaks got buff. She could do all the project construction herself then and be an even better secretary. Nintendo can prepare people for this by making her a heavy in the MK8 update, which makes sense since she'd be bulking to put on muscle.

Ummmm I would edit out that pics though. T_T NSFW my friend.

I was gonna post that but I didn't want to risk it.

She's the first real mascot-type character they've had for AC, so they're capitalizing on it. I think it's fine.
Heh. I was sure Tom Nook would be a fighter in the new Smash after he showed up in the reveal trailer. She's definitely not the first (but someone high up there does seem to lover her).

I mean, yes some of the art can be kinda disgusting(sorry muscle isabelle) but some can be very cute and nice to look here.

Her adorableness increased tenfold in my eyes now that I learned she's a Shih Tzu, and that her Japanese and Spanish names are Shizue and Canelita respectively.

I agree. I'm not sure where you're getting the negative connotation from my OP. :-)

The game sold millions, mostly to kids and casuals, and yet we have people in here claiming that Isabelle's popularity is mostly due to 'creepy otaku'? Do I have that right?

Good god. Anyone who thinks that is having their mind skewed by visiting certain forums online too much. I like Isabelle because she was a non-annoying helper character for once, who showed tons of enthusiasm. All the kids I know in my extended family who had the game loved her as well. The polls Nintendo do (which are filled out 99% by non-otaku, lol) would reinforce that she 'hit home' with her intended audience. That's why she's being pushed. To say it's because of sex appeal to perverts is such a bizarre claim.

Yeah she's cute and her personality in the game is pretty endearing.

How's the strangeness meter in this thread

There hasn't really been anything creepy in this thread, thankfully. Just worrisome people mentioning that creepy stuff has happened in other threads, lol.

So far, we're just appreciating a great character and wondering how one of our favorite game-makers will use her. :-)
