Nintendo sure loves Isabelle

Isabelle is the new Star Fox. lolololol

I don't even want to read the rest of this thread because I fear this turned into some horrible Nintendo Waifu Wars with a lot of mentions of Daisy, but it's about goddamn time Nintendo started marketing their female characters not named Samus/Peach/Zelda. They're still a bit slow, but I'm glad Peach doesn't have to carry all the burden of being the entire lineup of female-centric merchandising. Dawwwww....

Lol at people referring to Rosalina as a "goddess". Please. She's a great character and all, but you're giving her a bit too much credit there. Referring to the other two princesses as boring is also kind of subjective. And you can't ignore the fact that Rosalina is practically devoid of any overt personality in comparison.
Rosalina is literally a goddess in the Galaxy games. She reboots the universe at the end of Galaxy 1, after all.

It just sounds very overdone to even title her that. She's a princess that lives in outer space. That's really it, lol. BUT THIS IS WAY OFF TOPIC SO I'M DONE DISCUSSING IT, heh.

No that's next year with animal crossing Wii-U :p
believe

I actually believe this is an inevitability. New Leaf was such a runaway success with Nintendo it would be crazy for them not to try to spread that goodwill to the Wii U. The fact they already have the character models created on that Wii U app makes it seem even more likely.

Oh man

Animal Crossing WiiU

Amiibos

Oh man

They could patch the 3DS version for Amiibo support, as well

I'm just pointing out Rosalina has control over the very fabric of space-time and can will entire new universes/timelines into existence. I'm not even a fan of Rosalina. :-D

Don't get me wrong, I like Rosalina too, it's just weird embellishment to be all "Rosy is a goddess!" when she has never been referred to being so in the actual games.

But yeah! Isabelle, huh?!

There's a difference between calling someone a goddess as a literal statement of their power and just posting "DA GAWDESS" followed by a shitty tumblr gif of them like you were on Pop-GAF.

Oh, for sure, but I think most people are using the literal statement. Granted, they're using it to build a case for why Rosalina is awesome, much like how Ridley fans will point out he's a pirate space-dragon when building a case for why he's awesome. :-)

Overexposed just like boring emo Rosalina IMO. Goombella and Toadette could do with more exposure.

I actually enjoy seeing these new female Nintendo characters getting a push lately, but meanwhile, we have Toadette and Daisy rotting in spin-off hell. I'd love to see Toadette handed a role in Captain Toad and Daisy... well whatever they could manage. I also want to see Pauline in more than just Mario vs Donkey Kong titles. More time in the spotlight for these female characters, pls.

Is Rosalina really that popular? I'm so out of touch these days.

Isabelle is definitely the best new character from Nintendo in years. She's up there with Palutena IMO. I remember instantly liking her when we first saw her in one of the Animal Crossing previews.

We'll no doubt see her appear in more and more things going forward. Amiibo is a lock for sure.

She really should have been in SSB :(
I'd pay cold hard cash for Isabelle DLC that adds her to the roster as a clone of Villager. And when Isabelle is in play, her Assist Trophy is toggled off, and her brother Digby will appear instead, throwing fruit like she would.

She'd work great as a Villager clone. Her facial expressions could make her look terrified as she swings the axe and topples a tree over on her enemies!

I'm just happy to see Nintendo pushing their newer characters, period. It's nice to see slightly more recent characters like Rosalina and Isabelle appearing alongside classic mascots like Mario, Bowser, Link, etc.

Overexposed just like boring emo Rosalina IMO. Goombella and Toadette could do with more exposure.

Both of those characters are just pink versions of male characters that get exposed plenty though. I prefer the characters they are pushing.

It, along with Kirby, seem to score very highly in the "nintendo franchises you hate" threads. It's also the only game I've been insulted by a (best buy) employee for purchasing. Can't like those Kid Games™ amirite

Geez. Well, that's certainly one way of doing business with your customers. If there's any single social stigma that needs to die, it's that one. God forbid people try something different and have fun with it, right?

Pulling that stuff on your customers is just incredibly unprofessional though. Happened to me once as well (on a non-gaming related purchase, but still). In hindsight, I probably should've just said "You know what? You're right. To think I almost gave you money for it!", put the stuff back and walked away. Anyway, that incident put the store on my shitlist. :p

Isabelle was my favorite part of Animal Crossing. Probably one of my favorite Nintendo characters honestly. SHES JUST SO CUTE!
Seriously, I don't know a single person that didn't like her.

Some of these responses...

I think she's great, and I'm perfectly fine with Nintendo promoting her. I don't think she's ditzy either :P

I just edited the OP, changing "ditzy" to "cute." You're right she's not really ditzy. More like easily alarmed in an endearing way, haha.

They're actively promoting the character because she is popular. Unfortunately, a large chunk of her popularity is based around sexually explicit fan art. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lmao

if this was true Lopunny would basically be the #1 Nintendo mascot. Or Lucario. Or Fennekin. Or Delphox. Or Mewtwo. No really it's probably Gardevoir.

The real reason is because.... she's a cute, stable character in a game series where your main character is too customizable to be effectively used as a real mascot. Villager works in smash thanks to costumes, but that's about it.

A note about Villager: Smash has given him a defined look, and Mario Kart 8 DLC has iterated on it a bit (the New Leaf physique with the addition of eyelashes and spiky hair, seen also in the New 3DS commercial). Thanks to Smash and MK8, Villager now has more of an established look (and an established name -- good riddance to calling him "Animal Crossing Boy").

That being said, Isabelle has a more established appearance, of course. She also reflects the "animal" part of Animal Crossing, while offering more charm than Nook or other AC mainstays that are well-loved but never caught on to nearly the same degree as Isabelle.

I wish we had her as playable in Smash instead of Villager.
Imagine if Smash gets DLC and Sakurai does a Miiverse update for it:

PICTURE #1

"Isabelle from Animal Crossing: New Leaf joins the battle! She plays similar to Villager, but some of her properties are different. Her unique personality really shines through!"

PICTURE #2

"What about the Assist Trophy of Isabelle, you say? When a player uses Isabelle, her Assist Trophy is disabled. Instead, Isabelle's brother Digby will appear!"

Another vote for Isabelle! She's the cutest. Although I do feel sorry for her at times. Don't work too hard!

Then again, there's poor Digby, who gets to stand outside in all sorts of weather.

Considering the previous lead characters in the series include a loan shark, a politician, a drifter and a guy with serious anger management issues, there really isn't a better leading person for Animal Crossing than Isabelle.

Toadette is one thing but Goombella actually has a personality. In fact she has more characterization than most of the other characters in her game.

Toss in an Amiibo and You got a deal, Nintendo.

This is one of the reasons why I'm beginning to not even like her anymore. People are way too creepy with their liking for the character, and these gross ass humanoid portrayals of her in fanart... fuck that.

I can understand and get behind being repulsed at Rule 34 of her, but what's exactly "gross" about human art of her? I haven't played the game yet and have come across stuff like this:

And I think it's adorable. In fact with the Smash sale this week, I'd say I'm probably going to pick up AC on 3DS because I want to see what all the fuss with Isabelle is about. I've only played the original Gamecube game a little bit and it didn't do much for me. So mission accomplished Nintendo, I guess?

Sorry, but that type of fan art is just weird to me. Especially the last one. Something about cutesy anime-styled artwork irks me. That's just me though.

And no I don't mean art like my avatar, LOL.

That second pic gave her boobs the size of her head. O_O

New Leaf is excellent. A quantum leap over the previous installment. More ways to make bells than ever before, more ways to customize (redesign furniture!) and share your creations (QR codes!), and of course a huge variety of public works projects you can start as mayor. You can even set ordinances that affect the town, like shops staying open late, or keeping the town clean while you're away. The island is also back and better than ever. You can also visit "dream world" copies of other people's towns, even if they're not online. Just enter their code and away you go! Some towns are simply incredible. Also, the whole game just looks and sounds lovely. Nice shaders, nice character models, a super-clean look that runs smoothly in 3D. Very convenient with the touchscreen and two-screen setup, as well.

Isabelle is nice and all, but I disapprove of how she has upstaged Tom Nook as the face of Animal Crossing. One of the understated pleasures of Animal Crossing has always been its dark and vicious side (Nook, Lyle, Crazy Redd, Resetti), and it was a shame to see all of this dialled back in New Leaf in the name of not making the children cry. Even Resetti's presence is opt-in now.

she's absolutely adorable. I haven't even played Animal Crossing (not my type of game, sadly) but she looks really cute without being pandering or insufferable.

Plus, that N3DS faceplate and custom themes in the OP are incredibly cute. Almost irresistable.

Nintendo's just setting people up so that they can traumatize enough people possible when they adapt The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing.
