I almost wonder if the 8 color limit was applied after Mac's colors were already done. Like, some of the designers went above and beyond for Mac because of how much time they had at the time for the character and then someone put their foot down about doing that for other characters because of time constraints?

Only possible explanation, really. I can't see it any other way. Just think about the time in which the Wireframe color was revealed and then we didn't find out about the 8 color limit until a few weeks ago.
Might be the best theory so far.
I really can't think of much else seeing as all other costume alts come in packs of four so to speak, in any case I prefer that Mac at least gets the extras because the Wireframe alt is the one alt I just don't care for so I like that it hasn't limited the range of his standard colours.

People who hate orange really need to reevaluate their life.
I know right?

Lemon is the worst flavor. The worst color is Lime. No issues with orange.
I can't handle the wild opinions in here any longer.

I guess my main problem with Ness is that PK Fire has way too much endlag and that the yo-yo no longer has a hitbox during the charging, it just feels wrong and I end up using those moves a lot more than I should do, considering how bad they are in Smash 4.

Like, I'll use the yo-yo a lot to tech chase or just punish a bad roll, but it just does not work in Smash 4 without the hitbox, and I'll still do it just because I'm used to project M (Like how I still try to L-Cancel DK and Ganon's aerials 80% of the time)

I'd also prefer a weaker PK Flash that moves faster like in PM as well as the insta-dair... I'd prefer a lot of things from PM Ness honestly, the double-jump cancels, the yo-yo, the insta-dair, PK Flash, PSI Magnet damage and cancels. He's just so much fun to play in that game compared to Smash 4.

And not because he's a better character or whatever because he's still pretty low, he's just more enjoyable to play because of the options you have and the fact that you can actually use a lot of his moves instead of basically being stuck with half or less of his moveset like in Smash 4.

I don't know man. Maybe you just need to stop trying to play ness the old way and figure out his new strengths. From what I've heard he's overall a much better character this time around

My problem is that his new strengths feel very limited, he's better than he is in official smash games, sure. But I still think overall he's a bad/middling character that'll get figured out pretty soon and that he's a lot less fun to play as than his PM iteration.

Excluding actual grapes, I agree. Artificial grape flavor is disgusting.

In the UK, at least, there's a brand of carbonated drink called "KA" with some caribbean motif, and mother of all what is shit, the grape flavour is nasty, literally had a few sips then trashed the rest.

Legit grape = good.
Artificial grape = bad.

So when are we expecting retail copies to start leaking early? I'd go physical if I can get it early, but that rarely works out for me.

I'm thinkin Wednesday.

Ness is a character that is going to be strong early because his common/traditionally bad match-ups aren't prominent yet. Once characters like Marth, Lucina, etc (characters generally with more range than him) become more prominent, Ness will fall down. He doesn't have many tools and while the tools he does have are strong they don't make up for his usual problems that they've still yet to fix (slow ground speed, PK Fire isn't a good projectile, susceptible to pressure, terrible range on the ground, etc etc).

He was seen as pretty decent at first for Brawl as well, if I recall. Then the whole grab release infinites sent him way down + once he was figured out in general he became terrible lol.

You'll be able to get it Tuesday if you live in Glasgow (UK).

Despite that possibility, it still feels so far away.

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm getting at when I say Ness is bad and I'll stand by that no matter how well people do with him in early tournaments.

The good things he does have, whilst they are good at what they do, are very limited in their application and considering the fact that Ness is already very limited in terms of what he can actually do well, means that it just isn't enough.

I'm still going to play him 90% of the time because he's just my main, but he's not fun to play as in Smash 4 compared to PM due to how limited he is, not by a long chalk. And I find it pretty easy to say that he might not even be mid-tier in 6 months time once the game gets into more hands and we get to play with a proper controller.

Throw breaks aren't in this game because defensive options are already strong. Shields block both ways. Invincible rolls. Air dodges. You need one option that blows through all that.

Most fighting games have chip damage to give you a guaranteed method to hurt someone being defensive. Smash does not have that, so it needs something else.

It'd depend on how hard it would be to do. Plus, I think it would sort of invalidate the whole rock/paper/scissors aspect Smash has where shielding stops attacks but grabbing beats shields and attacks (when at the same time as a grab) beats grabs (in Smash 4, at least, otherwise you could say that spotdodging beats grabs). If you can stop a shieldgrab, for example, every time by breaking the grab then I'd think that would be pretty nuts. Likewise, if you couldn't "beat" someone's shielding with a grab that would also be pretty nuts.

The other thing it would change is probably how often you could use a grab to start something, the other player could easily predict it.

I also think it's not implemented in Smash because breaking grabs, like everything in the game, supposed to be accessible and if breaking grabs was hard it sort of goes against Smash's simplicity in controls. Mashing while getting pummeled is a very natural way to break out of grabs in Smash. Someone new to the game will eventually realize/figure that out, while timing to break a grab would be a little more difficult.

That's what I think about it, anyway.

Grabs also do pretty much the same thing as most attacks, which is launch you somewhere into the air. Grabs in most other fighting games tend to force a character into being prone on the ground for a lengthy period and open them up to heavy pressure.

Hey! grape soda is great.

To keep things smash related, whos going online the first day?
Agreed, grape pop is excellent.

I'll probably do some online the first day because doing the "Win with ____ X times!" challenges against the CPU would feel lame and I want that Mute City ASAP.

Probably won't touch For Glory the first day, but maybe some nice Gaffers would like to practice online with me?
I'm game!.....if I can unlock everyone the first day lol.

Wait there are challenges like that? Oh great...

Hmm, I see the simplicity philosophy of Smash that more newer smash players may not be able to get that timing to escape a throw while being puzzled why the more experienced player escapes the throw. Never really thought about the rock/paper/scissor aspect. Just wish there was something I can do about that grab if I see it coming.

Jump > grab.

I might jump on to try it out, but I'm all about singleplayer on the first day. Gonna try to unlock all the characters as quickly as I can and play a lot of Classic.
