Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

Am I to understand that all versions are locked@30FPS?

some of the backgrounds are animated right? it would look weird if character was in 60fps and the backgrounds in a lower frame rate.

Unfortunately, no retail release here in the US. If you missed it, that version I just posted (Asia version) includes both English and Japanese dub/subtitles. So you can import.

The Japanese version, from what a poster a few pages back said, looks like it's only gonna have Japanese.

The only thing that'll be in English is all the voices, which Biohazard has always had. There is a chance you'll have an English option though.
If there's an asian version, you'll be able to get full english.

Play-Asia just listed an Asian Collectors Package: http://www.play-asia.com/resident-evil-hd-remaster-collectors-package-paOS-13-49-en-70-84pb.html

Everything is the same as the Japanese Collectors Package

Box contents:

PS3 Game: Biohazard HD Remaster (English/Japanese)
Art Guidebook (B5 Size 48p)
Mansion Designer G Trevor Floor Map (B2 Size)

I was just about to order this on play asia, and after putting in my home addy at checkout it says
"If possible, please use a business address for delivery. This will greatly improve up delivery time."
Has anyone noticed this before, and have you ever put your home addy down as a business address for quicker delivery ?, will there be any hassle at customs or anything ?

That's weird. I pre-ordered last night and didn't get that message. I've ordered from them several times and have never run into any problems with customs.

as 'lazy' as this game may be, asset wise, i'm still going to pick it up.
loved the remake when it came out. love the classic RE style gameplay.

will more than likely love this verso, too. can't wait.

I'm a bit confused about the "English / Japanese language" Asian PS3 release - does that mean all menus and game text as well? Or just dialogue?

Here's another thing that baffles me as well. From what they have shown, they are upscaling the Menus and UI all the same as everything else.

Yet, Code Veronica X HD, a game that predates REmake, got a completely re-drawn proper UI/Menu system.

And with basically minimal effort, a consumer like Alo81 can simply upscale and make backgrounds look nearly the same as Capcom themselves, and add post processing without crushing detail.

This is akin to, recording and mixing a song in 24-bit 44.1khz .wav, using only a 16-bit 32.khz 92kbs .OGG for shipping said music due to limitations in an old retail game.
Then later releasing a musical album of "Remastered" music from said game in 16-Bit 44.1khz FLAC, but all of the audio is simply upsampled from the old retail game files.

Well, for the record the N64 version of RE2 features badass non-tank controls that makes the game way easier.

Don't get me wrong, I love RE2, it's one of my favorite games of all time, and second favorite in the series after RE4. I was just trying to understand why thehillissilent's preference was towards RE2 when the complaints they stated about REmake also apply to 2.

Back on topic, though: Despite all the early criticism this (RE)REmake is getting around these parts, my hype levels are fairly high.

It was just some text at the top of the page (after entering my addy at checkout) about business address and private address.. i just went with private and ordered.. I've read elsewhere delivery with them can take up to 5 weeks ?, and with the game releasing late november and christmas post, i just hope it arrives before 2015.

Yeah, this definitely doesn't add up. If they're working from the source files then why do the backgrounds look like simple upscales?

Most likely because all of the screens we have seen so far are from PS360 aka last gen consoles. No PC/Xbone/PS4 screens yet afaik.

EDIT: Nevermind, just realized that all versions will look the same aside from resolution differences :/...

Eh, the criticism is pretty overblown anyway and mostly something for superfans to argue about, for people who haven't played the game at all yet, all this is very minor nit-picky stuff, as they finally get a play a classic they missed out on.

I consider everything they do above the game running in an emulator a bonus.

The first in-game trailer. It looks pretty good to me, guys. I know it's not the perfect remaster, but it's a great game and its success will probably do some real good for the series. Capcom needs to see that people want this kind of game, and if the port is great aside from the lack of re-renders, it';; probably be worth supporting just so we can sway the direction of the series.

This is more than I ever wanted or expected. Early 2015 is gonna be killer.

Capcom gonna crapcom

Never going to happen.

Lmao at them putting that one high res entrance hall pic they have badly Into that trailer. I bet they only found out about that since fans found it when they announced this.

Also telling that the gameplay vid is only 720p. This will look like ass on a bigger screen at 1080p.

Honestly after playing REmake on Gamecube all those years ago, I've really no interest in playing through this game again.

I can't be the only one bored of playing the same game over and over with some differences/better graphics here and there every other generation...

Well they used that graphic since the announcement since it's the PS3 version's cover.

This game is not for you then.

I for one haven't played the REmake and I'm stoked about finally having the chance.

Remake gets a port 12 years after release and someone complains.

I said wow.
And it'll probably get a 4k port 12 years later. And 8k port 12 years after that. See the problem?

I suppose the best thing is that younger generations will get to experience this for the first time.

i believe this is old by now but i gonna give it a try, i was looking at the map on the site:
http://game.capcom.com/campaign/biohd/
and comparing with the Resident Evil 3 Nemesis in-game map, goes like this

at least they are not f*** around like on ORC (i know its a hd re-release but still, its cacpom atfer all)

With a PC version, there is no need to ever release the game again (if they are really not rerendering the backgrounds).

They could've remade all the assets in HD during those 12 years!

:P

Seriously, though, I'm very disappointed that the backgrounds look...not great, but I do think this is fine for people who haven't played the game, which is probably quite a few, since the Gamecube wasn't exactly a smashing success. But I also think people should know how "lazy" this actually is. >_>

Essentially, the GameCube release portrd to modern platforms?
Nice. Always wanted to try REmake, but never owned the 'Cube.

Ah ok.

They have different delivery options. I usually select the free shipping method when it's an option, but it wasn't option this time for the Collector's Package. The only shipping methods were 2-3 days, etc.

The free shipping method usually only takes 13-14 days for me. You should most definitely get it before 2015.

Resident Evil 4 was a direct result of REmake selling poorly, so they went the action route.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09...me-out-of-the-commercial-failure-of-re-remake

Nope.

According to January 17, 2007 sales figures provided by Capcom, the GameCube version of Resident Evil 4 has sold a total of 1.6 million units worldwide

[Capcom sold over 1.35 million copies of the game (RE:REmake)

Granted RE4 went on to good sales on the PS2 and Wii (2 million each) and has since reached 7 million sales across all its iterations and platforms. But, REmake was always at that point said to be tied to the Nintendo exclusivity deal, and RE4 was thought to have been until capcom turned and released a PlayStation version.

Arguable, REmake would have done a hell of a lot better if it got the same treatment and ended up on the branded platform that the IP was known to be tied to in the first place.

Not at all? Just like going from VHS to dvd to blu-ray to *whatever is next* As technology improves, you are able to get much closer to the original source materials and dramatically improve the experience. Of course in this case most of the source materials are gone but people are creative, just look at the people reworking Resident Evil 4. In a few years who knows how this might look.

I think we can trust Mikami on that.

Love the guy, but how do you reconcile the Gamecube RE4 sales numbers being in line with REmake, and Mikami reportedly being pissed off Capcom went and released RE4 on other consoles (which carried RE4 to new heights), which also was the spark to him eventually breaking ties with Capcom?

Translation error? I think just time and a new perspective is all you need for his comment, but it's not accurately describing what went down besides the push (of most publishers) to widen an audience; which usually means simpler gameplay, bigger explosions, and more action.

RE4 was announced to be ported for the PS2 before it was even released on the Gamecube. With this facet of knowledge, a lot of consumers actually put off buying the game on the Gamecube and waited until it was on the PS2 instead, since the PS2 was undisputedly the most successful system of the time. It doesn't help that the PS2 version had more content than the GC version too.

Had the PS2 port not been announced right away, RE4 would've sold more on the GC. It was a system seller for sure, as you can tell from it accumulating 7 millions sells as of concurrent date.

As someone who bought a Cube back in the day because Resident Evil mainlines were to be supposedly exclusive (until suddenly they were not); I can say a lot of people did the same. It was an utter shock when they announced RE4 would be going multiplatform a mere 3 months before it's release on the cube, and a year from it's PS2 release.

Most of us already had REmake and Zero and were expecting RE4 to continue the exclusivity trend having bought in for those titles.

I also doubt that sales on PlayStation are accounted for by people waiting on buying RE on cube, rather then the combined effect of RE traditionally being known to be a PS tied IP, PS2's monster sales and popularity, and the critical acclaim the game got upon its cube release. The Gamecube wasn't exactly known as a raging success of a console, with awesome software sales.

That's irrelevant. Mikami thought REmake didn't sell because of its content, and that's why he made RE4 as a different game. He probably thought wrong; I'd argue the reason it sold like shit (and so did RE4 at first) is because it was exclusive to the worst platform. But that's irrelevant.

Mikami said he made RE4 as it is because he thought REmake did not interest gamers, and that's that. There's no arguing to be had on the subject.

I can say a lot of people did the same.

Apparently not, as RE4's sales on PS2 were higher than those on GameCube.

This ended up being much more work than I expected, but I made a video comparison using footage from the trailer from earlier today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrrOPj6PH8w

I also made some screenshot comparisons using screengrabs from the trailer:
http://quackfluffy.tumblr.com/post/96407628562/you-guys-remember-how-i-said-i-wasnt-gonna-do
http://quackfluffy.tumblr.com/post/96407917857/and-even-more-comparisons-all-of-these-are

Comparing the two in motion is pretty interesting as it makes other changes more apparent, like: they've tweaked many of the animations to make them look more natural and smooth (some animations are entirely different even), there's some backgrounds they've done some manual work on (like the hallway where Chris walks away from the camera), and they've added new facial expressions.

Someone asked about shadows in the new version compared to REmake, and you can see shadows clearly here:

Those poor black levels.

I said and said it again, I'm not so offended about the awful bg upres.

The worst is the change in the palette and contrast levels. Totally changes (for the worst) the atmosphere of the game.

Thanks for the comparisons. If anything, i really love the subtle touches to the character models. They really do look better imo especially the skin shader.

It's a shame about the crushed blacks though. At least that shitty oil painting filter is gone or at least reduced. I will do my part and buy the ps4 version immediately when it comes out for the sake of supporting this true RE title.

Uh, yea now after seeing those gifs, those crushed blacks are a shame. Even though overall I still like how the new one looks better. Let's hope it's just cause the screen grabs were taken from the 360 and fucked up or something like that. lol
