New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

Forza has awful IQ, I believe it doesn't even have any anti-aliasing, probably because of the hardware issues getting to 1080p/60fps on the XB1.

I dont care.
It's a lunch game on inferior hardware.
A whole generation behind though? Haha
Statements like that are so over the top and inflammatory that they should be banned. It's absolute nonesense.

I don't think the alps video that compared forza 4/5 helped forza 5 much in regards to looking "next gen". They practically looked the same, and in that regard, a generation apart seem pretty accurate. But only in the sense of a late previous gen game (which is what forza 5 looks like) compared to an early current gen game (which is what driveclub looks like)

I'm sure forza 6 would look better.

Also half the framerate. That's something that will always drag this game down.

Nope, 30fps won't drag DriveClub down in any way. Both Sony and Microsoft are following the exact same strategy for racing titles.

One Pure Simulation Title running at 60fps:
Microsoft - Forza
Sony - Gran Turismo

One Arcade/Sim Title running at 30fps:
Microsoft - Forza Horizon
Sony - Motorstorm and now DriveClub

Both companies are following the same strategy because it works. Anyone who thinks all racers need to be 60fps doesn't understand the game market, as neither Microsoft, Sony, or EA (NFS) believe that.

I totally disagreed with the opinion of forza looking last gen with lighting etc. Im judging this game on what I see and the fact it is running at 30fps

And how do you find the framerate and resolution of Stunt Race FX, is that up to scratch?

People don't run out and buy a £40 game just for something pretty to look at and to show their friends. Especially when you have a PS+ release that's free and offers more then enough content to achieve the same goal.

I just do not see this game succeeding. And i honestly feel this could be evolutions "haze".

the PS+ edition was clearly a conscious decision before launch. I would think they would want lots of players to keep the online active, which would encourage friends etc to upgrade to the full version.

And maybe they'll release tracks/cars as microtransactions, so even if you don't upgrade to the full game, you might still spend a few pounds on your favourite cars etc?

I think to the average gamer (GAF members are far removed from the average Joe gamer) Forza 5 looks next gen.

My girlfriend has seen me play Forza 3/4 many times and even she can see the difference.
Anyone I've shown Forza 5 to (as in me actually playing the game, not videos) thinks it looks good.

The game is flawed graphically and I'm not saying its the best looking game out or anything like that, but what happened to balanced logical statements on here?

Some of the stuff you read on here is borderline irrational at the moment.

Anyway, I'm off topic.
Driveclub is very pretty. Will be interesting to see how much better it looks than Horizon 2. Hopefully we'll see that in a few weeks.

A couple more GIFs on the way. Loved the tail lights and the shadows here

And the sense of speed and environment density right from the start

Not bad.

are the windshield reflections from the e3 build gone, or are the just not noticable during the night?

Look to be gone to me. Can't even see any on the daytime video either.

This is a real shame and I really hope they bring them back in, along with the view of mainly windscreen and part-dash which doesn't look quite the same iirc to the previous showings.

This to me is what made it look next gen and was enough for me to settle with playing with a controller (seeing as my g25 doesn't look to be supported).

Considering it's running at 30fps, (yes I know they aren't using baked lighting), taken an extra 8 months to develop, looks to have taken bits out that were in before (windscreen reflections), tried to arse us over by the ps+ joke, no weather effects (PGR had them on a generation ago), other than the resolution(which is a given considering it's a much more powerful console than a 360), it doesn't look any better than PGR imo AND the game has quite a bit of jaggies even though they said they were working on a new AA technique and we were all going to be amazed iirc - I'm not quite impressed at this point in time at all.

Oh and why the fuck do we need to keep seeing Gran Turismo advertising in this game? Fuck that shit and get it out. Sony should be embarrassed and is a bit of a kick in the balls to Evolution imo. Looks like PD have had a helping hand in these extra 8 months and wouldn't surprise me if 'they' were the ones that decided to remove the windscreen reflections.

Also, the driving looks a bit more twitchy and kind of less grippy than last time I saw the footage where the car lifted off the ground and landed on that long country lane wind-y bit but that could just be the car/track type.

Maybe someone can ask Rushy if the Windscreen Reflections are gonna be in on launch along with the Windscreen/Part-Dash view?

At this point, it's a no buy for me. Getting a bit disappointed in the Sony and the PS4 at the minute...

what the hell is this about? The GranTurismo is a model of Maserati, it has nothing to do with PD dude.

By "part-dash" i assume you mean the steering wheel-less cockpit view? In which case, it's in.

And windshield reflections are reliant upon bright light illuminating the dashboard itself. Something that doesn't happen much when it's dark.

But they have reflection in the side windows, so i don't see why they wouldn't in their windshield.

There's a difference between delaying the game and increase hardware capabilities.
No delay in the world will remove the hardware limits.

Wow

You're not going to get windscreen reflections at night, it requires strong light to reflect off the dashboard.

I do think they still have the instrument dash lights projected onto the side window, someone tell me I'm not going crazy but I can see a faint group of green dots in the side window of the GranTurismo that's totally blurred out by compression?

Fuck Polyphony!

Sony need to pull their thumb out and get Logitech to make some wheel drivers, no G27 compatibility = no DRIVECLUB sale.

Alright you win most over the top Concern Troll of the thread, nice work.

Oh wow. This is GOLD.

Clearly this guy knows what he's talking about.

And how do you find the framerate and resolution of Stunt Race FX, is that up to scratch?

image.php

Stunt race had a fine resolution but the framerate was terrible. Luckily I was too young to notice how bad it was at the time.

I wonder how many people in this thread that are dogging on forza 5, have actually played it for an extended amount of time.

Time does not make a game look better. As for gameplay, that's not in question...forza plays great its just never looked too hot..that goes for any of them. But then physics are obviously their priority.

And you haven't played Driveclub, but your view fashioned from Youtube two videos appears to be your definitive one, with no scope for change. Anyway, about those jaggies that ruin Driveclub's IQ:

[In Sunset Overdrive - rumoured to be 900p] the iq looks bad?? cmon man this looks a lot better than the IQ of last gen. I'm confused. There will always be jaggies etc. Even at 1080p if you look hard enough

So anyway, I've had a quick look through your post history, instantly found that and realised that I'm wasting my time here. To everybody else, sorry for shitting up the thread. You can take it out on my car in October :)

*PAL version, bordered, with a tiny play area window. It was a brilliant game for all of it, but the framerate was shit and the resolution was shit.

That doesn't go for "any" of them actually. It applies for any of the Forza Motorsports sure, but Forza Horizon looked shit hot. I'm surprised we keep having the 60fps vs lighting/trackside detail argument, when Horizon (and to a lesser extent PGR4) has already demonstrated how much Forza can benefit if it wasn't strictly aiming for rock solid 60fps gameplay.

It really, really is. Driving around Quebec very much feels like something that would've slotted in well with Driveclub.

If the DLC they're working on is a couple of cities rather than slightly-vague countryscapes, I'll be over the moon.

Yes! Really hoping Evo are planning some city tracks. Just imagine driving around Las Vegas or NYC or even Japan at night with that lighting engine....

Sweet Jesus.

You have very inconsistent standards.

A lot of people don't know that a lot of cars have a GT version, which means Grand Touring or Gran Turismo. No it doesn't mean the game... C'mon people.

Seriously, did you used that (and only that) poor IGN comparison with a old and bugged build of an track that has the minor differences from the previous Forza to judge the differences? haha

Can we not make comparisons to Forza we are just going to get the usual suspects coming in, and this thread will have higher def footage by Monday, don't want it to turn ugly.

the greatest tragedy is that 30fps is now considered fine as long as the racer is "arcadey", despite a high framerate being a fundamental keystone of all the classic arcade racers.

just the thought of playing daytona USA at 30fps makes me want to turn amish.

It won't work with anything on PS4. Logitech need to supply updated drivers for PS4 (which they won't do) Then games like driveclub can start supporting the wheel itself.

Won't work as in I can't use it at all - or won't work as on PS3 where I had to jump through hoops to use it?

Thanks man lol.

I feel pretty stupid now :-(

Anyways hope you all have a good laugh lol. I'm not taking it to heart but I guess I deserve it :-)

/runs away feeling stupid but still with enough sanity (just) to have a chuckle myself!

Why in blue hell would PD try to deliberately sabotage another fellow developer working for the same parent company?

This is Sony,..not Sega. 'Kay?

you can't know everything, but you could tamper your feelings a bit more a little bit next time.

Why's that? Nothing wrong with letting it out. Although, I may well be taking my chances of ridicule lol!
Because in your original post, most of those reasons were flimsy. Basically, you don't seem to like the game over flimsy reasons.

I'll even quote some of them:

Considering it's running at 30fps

tried to arse us over by the ps+ joke

no weather effects (PGR had them on a generation ago)

it doesn't look any better than PGR

the game has quite a bit of jaggies even though they said they were working on a new AA technique and we were all going to be amazed iirc

Some of these are are outlandish, and others may be valid but do them being issues suddenly make the game unimpressive?

Don't worry about it. Easy mistake to make, I chuckled a little.

I didn't know that the situation was this dire... Damn... I'll have to get rid of my wheel then, very sad..

Yes! Really hoping Evo are planning some city tracks. Just imagine driving around Las Vegas or NYC or even Japan at night with that lighting engine....

Sweet Jesus.

Both NY and Las Vegas make for some pretty shitty race tracks. Japan would be cool though.

I would kill for some Edinburgh/Stockholm/Sydney love like in the PGR2 days. Macau from PGR4 was sweet as well.

Why's that? Nothing wrong with letting it out. Although, I may well be taking my chances of ridicule lol!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but don't be surprised if people find your opinion to be more of an overreaction than a legitimate criticism.

This game will be a spiritual successor to PGR. Hybrid racing fans (sim/arcade) will understand. The driving model is made by the lead on Blur and PGR.

Fair point but a lot of flimsy points add up or they could if you want. To be clear though, I've really been looking forward to this game. I even bought another ps4 purely for it (along with the one for my son).

Don't worry about it. Easy mistake to make, I chuckled a little.

Thanks :-)

soooo... I know nobody REALLY knows this definitely but:

what Force Feedback Wheel to buy? Anything futureproof for the PS4?

my wife wants to gift me a racing seat but I have NO idea what good wheel to buy for this and Project Cars.

I'm fine with that. An opinion can always be looked at in that way if the one viewing it sees it like that. Nothing I can do about it. In the same breath, I'd hope I'd always take than into account when I may think the same of someone else's lol.

T500RS assuming that you're willing to pay a heft amount of money. But it's well worth it if you're looking forward to playing a bunch of racers this gen.
