I'm just a bit confused as to why these dudes are serving Dio. There's the flesh bud thing, but his "charisma" isn't much of a reason, so I'm interested in seeing if that's explained more further on.

It's probably more along the lines of him promising them something they desire if they serve him/kill the Joestars.

That + charisma + I'm pretty sure they fear Dio more than the Joestar group + none of them are good people to begin with anyways

I think the Charisma is just because Dio is still a Vampire, and in other media, Vampires have been treated as particularly charming, if not able to plain old hypnotize people.

well he is a vampire, he's got all 5 stats in charisma.

Pretty sure the breathing thing is only for Hamon. Stand power is something else completely you get either naturally or by an arrow.

First episode, Advol suffocates Jotaro and says if you can't breathe your Stand retracts. And it is only for Hamon, it was just some vague thing to try and link Hamon and Stands.
And one would figure Stand experts Advol and Joseph would know non-Stand users cannot see Stands.

Oh, that's right! Somehow, I just connected the requirement for breathing with the Ripple, but not Stands.

I guess the dude could have played dumb if they were showing their Stands, though? It would have probably given a bit of a reaction though, I'll agree.

Not to be spoilery but this rule is effectively tossed out the window in several instances in Stardust.

You missed the next page where Joseph explains Stand is projected by the host's life force or life energy. Breathing is crucial for Hamon, but not for stands.
Breathing has nothing to do with it.

I know, but I think it makes it seem sillier when another station is showing a younger kid smoking and then you have Beef McLargehuge Jotaro smoking, can't show that.
Makes me wonder how some later stuff is going to look.

I don't know what to think of the suffocation thing now. Maybe I've always interpreted it wrong or maybe Araki just dropped it after that first chapter.

I thought this page was basically saying that if you growing weaker then your stand is getting weaker. Sort of how you lose energy when you are in a chokehold. If a stand user gets knocked out like being suffocated I'm pretty sure most can't summon their stand, unless it was an autonomous type.

Yeah, that's how I took it too. Stand power is also affected by their wielder's metal strength as well.

I think the Captain was probably promised money or something similar. They do go into that with some later villains.

It was an okayish episode, Stardust Crusaders mainly shines in the middle to later parts, when the group is well enstablished, just as their interactions with each other, and the situations become increasingly interesting and complex.

I love what happens in the next episode just because it's the typical Araki craziness.

I definitely enjoyed Dark Blue Moon more in the manga, the pacing felt tighter. Though maybe I only felt that because I just read it again recently. The manga definitely had a better reaction face.

It was a good-ish ep. Every time I watch Jojo's OP I wish we got something that looked just like that. At least it seems we're done with the motion comic business of the first season.

Totally. I thought that they'd cut things out to fit a 26 episode run, but with the inclusion of Runaway Girl they're fitting everything in. David Production is AMAZING at the Jojo adaptation; Neptunia, not so much.

22 minutes of Mohammed being a badass and I loved it The whole "let me stand here and explain my power to you" was silly but I thought they did a better job handwaving it than most other shows of this type do. Also LOL at Joesph and Polaneff's pose at the end literally makes no sense. Like it straight up defies gravity O_O

• I think Jotaro is the first anime character to pull of that chest grope thing without making want to punch the screen. Probably because he was so matter of fact about it and the scene wasn't presented in a pervy way.

They never implied that this guy is or made himself to be a doppelganger of the original Captain so the crew should have known instantly something was up. Plus Joesph didn't ask for pictures of the crew before meeting them (so he'd know what the captain looked for example)? I mean I guess this justifies the "no plane" route but this situation would have been avoided if the characters excised any forethought. Thanks Araki :/

Well, they're just that, stats. Sure they're pretty high overall, but all he can do is punch really fast for the most part while other stands get much more interesting abilities that when used properly are very dangerous.

Compare it to nen from HxH if you watch that.
